Anyone get a text from Public Mobile with an offer to sign up to Koodo?

Seems weird. $50/5GB/Unlmtd Nation Wide minutes. Why would I take that, Public is cheaper + I have a bunch of referral bonuses.

Public sent you a text advertising a competitor's plan?

Well, they are both owned by Telus.

Do they do cross promotions like that, or dis someone boo boo and text the wrong list?

I wouldn't be shocked if they are trying to move as many off of Public Mobile as they can to eventually prove to the CRTC it's too small and it won't affect too many if they shut it down.

Hm yeah, for some reason I was thinking Koodo was owned by someone else. Makes more sense now.

That's a pretty good deal though, they probably are trying to kill Public off.

As someone who works for a carrier. Gorilla Glass means crap really. The s8 screen scratches pretty damn easily and the tempered glass options available are not too great. Best and affordable screen protector I found is the spigen neo flex. I use it with a tech 21 case and when I know I'm going somewhere with higher risk of me breaking it I put on my lifeproof.

Does that screen protector impact the responsiveness/feel of the screen?

It amazes me that after 3+ generations of Edge devices, a company still hasn't made a definitive screen protector yet.

What kind of plan do you have on Public.

I'm on a Telus off-contract plan that is ~$45/month and from what I can tell I couldn't get a similar plan on Public for less assuming that I want 4G LTE (which I do).

I got in on the 4GB/mo deal.

I pay, what works out to, $40 per month for 4GB, PROVINCE (not nation) wide calling, global texting. After discounts and referrals I'm at 101 per quarter for my cell bill.

That's a good deal, and a bit less than what I pay now, but from the Public site an equivalent plan to what I have now would be closer to $60/month, or $180 every 90 days.

I love how there's Sonic Mania priced at $20 on Xbox One and the Switch version is $26.

I was gonna get it for Switch since it's portable, but now I'm leaning towards the Xbox version because it's cheaper and has a proper d-pad.

Microsoft's store seems to be the best for Canadians in terms of exchange rates -- seems to be a fair bit of stuff that comes to us at par.

I'm guessing it'll probably come in around $26/27 on PSN as well.

It just how the Microsoft store works. Most publisher won't apply the exchange rate for games/dlc below a price point. There are some exceptions, when it's a Play Anywhere title, it will use the Window Store exchange rate or Neo Geo games (HAMSTER Corporation).

Whoa, thanks for the heads up on that! Xbox it is.

Remember you can get a $50 xbox card for $44.99 at costco online

Another $1 off with exec membership (2%)

I got the same thing and I pretty much had the same reaction. What's weird is I saw a video ad last night, $40 a month for 4 GB with Public, so it's not like they're trying to get people off the plan I have.

Ugh. I hope this isn't the end of public mobile. I'm paying a really cheap plan and I don't want an extra 10-$20 on it.

Anyone who signed up in Nov 2016 to PM just had their 90 day plan auto renewed (Feb, May, and Aug), so presumably if you cancel PM now you lose nearly 3 months of prepaid value...that's over $100 if on the $40/mth plan.

Steam's the best out of all of them. Unlike PSN, devs don't have to follow the platform holder's exchange rate, which means most devs will undercharge for non-full price games (a lot of $19.99 USD games get priced at $21.99 instead of the $26.99 they'd be on a platform like PSN, though a few releases do end up getting closer to a 1:1 exchange rate). Additionally, Steam doesn't charge tax, so some games end up slightly cheaper than they would be on XBL. And as a bonus you can sell trading cards you get from games to earn Steam wallet credit.

Having a gaming PC sounds so nice. One of these days I'll join the club.

afaik Nintendo doesn't enforce exchange rates for third party publishers. the rate they use for their own games is absolutely horrendous though.

I recently repurposed an older desktop PC with a leftover laptop SSD, RAM, and Win 10. Use it for anything low tech, like arcade games and recent indies, which all run perfectly, it's really good. Steam is convenient. Xbox One controller + hdmi out, everything worked as easy as a console.

If PC had Japanese games, I'd switch to it. But for now, PS4 stays.

That's a pretty damn cynical move if they actually don't pay you out for the rest of that term.

My god, is that ever going to happen? At this point it feels like the only way we'll ever see a discount is through My Nintendo rewards.

Waited over two holloween, never drop a single penny. I think we can assume that nintendo has forgotten the released the game lol.

It's not glass so it's fine for responsiveness. The feel is kinda like an orange peel at first but smooth.

Looks like it's time to cancel Prime. Barely made use of the free shipping and it's not that hard to wait an extra day for shipping and bundle up $25 worth of items.

Also, why is Prime Video so useless in Canada? Literally no way to watch it on your TV save for physically connecting a laptop to your TV via HDMI. No Chromecast, no Apple TV, no Android TV, no PS4, no Kodi add-on... I can keep going.
