Why everytime I look in these monument threads there's always someone stanning for the statues to be preserved, as if these statues are literally the last link between us remembering our past lol

History is everywhere. Including in books. History will not evaporate if you remove a statue. Facts still exist. It gives more power to the first mover: 'I planted this statue first, jinks, haha, you can do nothing.'

Seeing Republicans/Conservatives finally denounce Trump's actions is nice and all, but it's silly to denounce what they were building since Obama came into office (arguably long before that). Trump is the results of their "hard work", and now people want to cry about the monster they created doing monster things.

I'm pretty sure someone said something about the GOP creating this orange Frankenstein and it would cost them. But yeah, republicans caused this to happen, even without trump it would have happened. But never would I thought that trump would make it just as worse than we thought.

I've been twice. Spent a combined total of around 6 hours I think. Only made it through 2 floors, the top and the basement which were on separate trips.

If you're going absolutely don't rush through anything and expect to see it all on one go. It's worth absorbing it all in slowly.

You're technically supposed to start at the bottom or basement floor as that's basically represents the beginnings of African American people from their roots in Africa and through black history to today. There's some incredible stuff in there that's worth seeing rather than just talking about.

Aside from that, everything else is about a specific part of American society black people have been a part of, whether it's entertainment, sports, politics, or something else.

It's a shame that there isn't really a section dedicated solely for black scientists though. However the wealth of information on everything else pretty much makes up for it.
