Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

I thought for sure that was getting denied.

When I heard Leonard Ellerbe saying they wanted 8oz because it would lead to a knock out... all I could think was "what a horrible argument for the commission if you actually want it approved."
The Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) asked them not to approve the rule change. So, yeah.

That top fifty really needs to be condensed, sure they are great shots but does it really need to make the list if the guy doesn't at least stagger.

Legitimately shocked by this considering the only reason is "Maybe this will lead to a KO" which is a fucking terrible way to make a decision.

The vast majority of people who watch boxing are doing so to see somebody get KO'd. This is good promo for the fight.

Honestly 8oz gloves is fantastic news if you are Conor. He has to be loving this.

Still probably won't make a difference in the outcome and but they are playing a little bit with fire here. It's only a 2oz difference though but the less padding Floyd has for defense the better for McGregor

46/49 of Floyd's fights were with 8 oz gloves.

Ok? What's the point your making? Floyd will win and I've said from Day 1 he will

All I said is if you are Conor who is used to using tiny 4 oz gloves the smaller you can make them the better for him. This is factually correct

You'll soon learn that any organization that has anything to do with boxing have no shame. LOL

Nobody but Floyd gets this done. He owns Vegas. I mean, they postponed his fight before going to jail due to the revenue his fights bring in.

He has his own display in the MGM Grand

Floyd has at 'breaking ground' event with Dana for MGM at the T-Mobile Arena, where this fight next week will take place.

His last 12 fights, including this one, has been at an MGM property. No one else in this situation has the pull to get this done.

To give you some more videos.

Robert Guerrero saying how when you see Floyd on film, you think one thing, but it's different when you are in the ring with him.

Nate Jones, a trainer with Floyd and fellow boxing Olympian himself said Floyd is going to make it hot in there early.

He's going to check Conor early like he did Pacquiao to let him know that it's not a game.

He sat on his punch early and let Manny know that if he wants to come into the kitchen, prepare to catch some heat.

I know people say that McGregor has to do it in the first few rounds but I think he will be truly surprised when Floyd takes the fight to him. He rarely shoulder rolls lefties, he fights in the high guard like this.

Floyd-Mayweather-Zab-Judah-fight3.JPG

This is the first round to the Pacquiao fight, mostly high guard

So he will largely nullify Conor's left while using his own left and if Conor lazily throws out the left, Floyd will counter over it with a right or pull counter like this.

Conor and his people and many others seem to think that Floyd is too small. Floyd has fought and sparred bigger people his entire life. Not to mention, he lacks the one thing that would control Floyd in this fight, an authoritative jab. Anything less than a godly jab and you don't get to compete against Floyd.

Oscar, Castillo, Cotto, Maidana. What do they have in common in the ring? They have great jabs.

Even then, in the six fights, Floyd's hand was raised victoriously in all of them. Paul Williams would have been a tough fighter for him, huge volume puncher with way longer reach at 79 inches

It's weird, when Floyd was training under his uncle Roger, who was a more offensive fight, Floyd never really took off early on opponents. After he got back with his dad, all the logic about Floyd starting slow went out the window.
Round 1 of the Berto fight, Floyd saw fit to jump in with a few leaping lefts, going towards Berto's dominant hand and in essence, giving no fucks about what Andre was capable of doing.

As a result, it becomes a thinking man's game in the ring with Floyd and when you do that, you lose. Look at any boxer that has ever sparred or fought Floyd, they will always speak about his ring IQ

As I said previously, is Father Time on his doorstep? That was the only real question in this fight. If a boxer like Bernard Hopkins can dominate deep into his 40s, then a boxer like Floyd who has ALWAYS taken care of himself physically, can dominate at the age of 40. Remember, Jordan, once in a blue moon, was capable of putting up 50 in a Wizards jersey so don't be surprised to see the 'old' man from Grand Rapids, still flying around the ring gracefully in less than two weeks, cruising to victory.

You sir, know boxing 👍.

Not making much of a point, just adding to your point really. Conor is advantaged since the gloves are smaller, but Floyd also benefits since it's the glove size he's used in 95+% of his fights and is most familiar with.

Mind you, 10 oz glove rule was made to protect bigger fighters from head trauma.

This just shows you how out of control boxing really is.

Oh no doubt, you mean they postponed him having to serve his sentence to after his fight due to the boon he does to their local economy.

Has the hype for this fight died down? Almost everyone is pretty much giving it to Floyd.

It was always going to be Floyd winning, it's not even a "real" fight.

Everyone with half a brain should give this to Floyd. We're a week and a half out from this clown show, expect the media attention to ratchet up again.

My man, although there are still delusional people thinking conor has a chance.

I expect it to be about as entertaining as Toney vs Couture. Frankly, Gabi Garcia has killed my interest in freakshow fights for the year.

Can't hate on Conor for getting paid, and if he can put on a half decent performance it might get more eyes on MMA...and boxing too I guess.

Sure, but they also admitted there was no research or study telling them it was safer, they just thought it seemed like a good idea.

Which... doesn't help the athletic commission look any better.

Never expected 8oz gloves to be approved, sounds like a promo move by Mayweather that kinda backfired on him, this definitely favours McGregor.

edit: look up #mcgregorchallenge, there's a ton of videos of people emulating that warmup :D

Conor won the moment the fight was agreed upon. I mean, won a lot of fucking money that is.

The real question is if he will ever fight again, win or lose. Why would he go back to the pittances that the UFC doles out?
UFC just set up Tony Ferguson vs Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight belt at UFC 216. Suppose Kevin Lee wins that fight, people really think McGregor will come back from a Floyd Mayweather fight to defend his title against Kevin fucking Lee?

Not going to happen. I expect moneyfights only from now on.

And this is exactly why Floyd is happy for it to happen lol

I dunno if that's what I'll call it. Plenty of people think it "raises the stakes", gives Conor more of an edge, and sells the fight more. Personally, I don't think it matters in the slightest.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Conor just has to open the 8 gates and he'll temporarily gain the power to defeat Floyd Madaraweather but at the cost of his life.

https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/jan/06/mayweather-begin-serving-jail-term/

Despite objections by Chief Deputy District Attorney Lisa Luzaich that Mayweather should be treated as anyone else, the judge decided the 34-year-old boxing champ could wait until June 1 — after his scheduled Cinco De Mayo fight on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena — to begin his sentence.

Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa made the decision after hearing from Mayweather's attorney, Richard Wright.
