Limited Run Games |OT2| Sweet XOXO for Digital to Physical Media

You're talking nonsense.
They release at the same time a standard and a collector edition like they've already done multiple times. Both are limited but of course the CE will be less common and contains some bonuses. Nothing shady here.

It's just weird they call it limited edition when the normal edition already is a limited edition.

While right now I agree this is nonsense it is something I could conceivably see eventually emerging in the collectible game space. Apparently, when calculating minimum orders with Sony it seems that cover variation counts toward the same minimum. It would explain why Limited Run Games is able to offer the 32X variant cover in such low quantities because what is actually being used to calculate a minimum is the disc not the cover. In the boutique, high-end limited book market there are generally 2-3 editions in a single release. Trade, numbered and lettered. Lettered generally offering exotic binding materials and trappings that mark it as a collected item for a high-end, monied enthusiast. I can see a world where short-run game publishers use cover variation to eventually offer games in leather traycases with French endpaper lining, gold stamped covers and lift out ribbons.

Imagine the bloodbath for an LRG release with 26 copies at $500 supplementing the limited and collectors editions. Hopefully it isn't something LRG ever embraces but it is within the realm of possibility.

salaciousdrift understands the problem here.

its also sad that we have to rely on a 3rd party company printing games that should have been Sonys job from the beginning

And he said there isn't a problem, so...

I agree that could become problematic if it went to far in the "rare collector edition" direction, but today's situation is perfectly normal and fair. Especially since nothing indicates Lili is highly sought after ^^

the minimum copy amount for Xbone was something like 20 000 copies.

IIRC that is exactly it. But not that high... Just the numbers they would have to produce would be quite a bit more than current.

Usually it's the developers' decision to not do physical and isn't really Sony's responsibility for games that are not theirs.

Tempted to get N++, but after asking 2-3 times whether the Ultimate Edition is included, the radio silence I've gotten on that topic makes me assume the answer is no. I personally think a limited physical release of this nature should represent and preserve the "final" version of the game whenever possible. Plus, the months of July and August have already been crazy for me with disc purchases (between LRG, Guacamelee, and retail games) - my wallet could use the break. Still tempted though...

Yeah sorry. That would have been valable info indeed. But I'm taking it with or without dlc anyway so the answer is not that important to me. (but they should state that for every game they release for which there are some DLCs)

I'll admit I'm inconsistent on this issue: I bought LRG Dariusburst, which doesn't contain the DLC, and I could be wrong but isn't there another version of Guacamlee not represented in the PS4 version? Still, for something like N++, I wish we were getting the latest version. I'll probably pass, just because I've already ordered so much already recently, but I could see myself buckling at 6 p.m. Gonna try to resist though!

I don't think that update is even out for PS4 yet. I mean it will be free when it is I assume.

The developers said the ultimate update isn't out yet and won't be on the limited run game disc.

The Ultimate update is not yet out on PS4, so it can't be on the disc. It's coming soonish though!

It isn't about whether the ultimate update is free, it's about whether it's on disk. If this was about preserving games then the physical release should have been delayed until it was finished. This is a miss by all parties involved.

I'm weak. I ordered one. I logged into LRG several minutes late, didn't login to PayPal ahead of time, fumbled with with the stupid phone number glitch, and I still managed to get it. (Edit: N++)

And done.

The checkout queue had me worried for a second, wasn't expecting it for those two games tbh. The Limited Edition sold out in under two minutes again, hope they do make changes before Ys is on sale.

I love N++ but just can't afford it this week, if it was next week hell yeah. Sucks but these things happen.
Then again they still have 33% so I may be able to get a copy next week at this rate.

There weren't too many copies of the LE available really, it's hard to blame LRG too much for that, it's not exactly a title people have been hyped for and it was $40 - I imagine there was a definite worry that larger print numbers would have potentially gone unsold.

It´s a pass for me today, ordered Guacamelee yesterday and have a big expense on another item that will eat most of my budget for this month.

Was planning to pick up N++ this week but Guacamelee came along, so I'm going to skip this week. Way too many releases this July/August anyway.

Oh, I agree. Lili getting a higher-priced LE seemed risky and not producing too many copies was the right decision. I wasn't trying to blame LRG, just saying that the LE of Lili sold out very fast for a game with little hype. That has me worried for the Ys LE even if the run is larger, it will be gone very quickly and people will be disappointed. The idea of doing preorders for a second run seemed like a good solution imo.

I would bang a hot farmer!
Well technically if you sum standard and collector edition it's the exact same run size.
The crazies buy both the normal and LE of Lili while only one N++. Still over 900 copies left in the morning batch of N++.

I have no interest in today's releases.

Yeah, guess not.

Anyways, I'm really excited to hear today what LRG has decided about having an Ys Origin 24-hour pre-order period.

Wow, just got shipping confirmation on regular Night Trap. That is really fast compared to the last several purchases. I wonder when my CE and copy of the bunker will ship now.

Had a feeling today might go kinda slow. Parts of the Lili trailer looked really nice, but some looked tepid. N++ looks great, but I had to read 'sequel' in two or three places before I felt convinced that it was a different enough game from N+, which already had physical releases.

I still ended up going for both though. :)

We're coming up on N++ being up for 2 hours, will LRG just take it down to hopefully build more hype for the evening batch?
