Israeli Minister: Defending Trump is the top priority, not calling out Nazism

Blew my mind when I caught wind of this. It's a few days old so lock if it's already been discussed:

“Due to the terrific relations with the US, we need to put the declarations about the Nazis in the proper proportion,” Kara said. “We need to condemn antisemitism and any trace of Nazism, and I will do what I can as a minister to stop its spread. But Trump is the best US leader Israel has ever had. His relations with the prime minister of Israel are wonderful, and after enduring the terrible years of Obama, Trump is the unquestioned leader of the free world, and we must not accept anyone harming him.”

So they hate Black people more than they hate the people who literally tried to wipe them from existence. Got it.

The terrible Obama years when they got more money than ever before and didn't have to give up anything to the Palestinians.

The Trump .5 year where he relayed their intelligence to the Russians.

Yup

Didn't Netanyahu's son said that white racists are a dying breed and that the problem today is the radical leftists and the islamo-fascists who hate jews and are taking over Europe and the rest of the West and so that's why he still supports Trump?

Translation: yeah he's empowering Racist thugs and anti semites in the United States, but he'll look the other way on apartheid like policy and on settlements, and who knows - he might even join team bomb Iran! We can't allow rational people to remove him from office

I bolded the part that made them feel the Obama years were so bad.

The Israeli government got a head start on hating muslims, building walls and being outright hard right wing racist apartheid pricks. This isn't shocking, they are a template of what we where headed to after 9/11 and man I was hoping after Obama we would have curved that timeline but nope here we are in full speed.

Horrible but totally unsurprising.

Israel has a history of working with some absolutely horrible characters, most obviously the Lebanese Phalange, a group of Catholic fascists whose leaders admired Hitler and sought to monopolize control of Lebanese society. Because the Israelis shared their goal of eliminating the Palestinian presence in Lebanon, they banded together and massacred thousands of refugees.

Imperialism can be funny like that.

Realpolitik, how does it work

Except it's not, Israel has been a right-wing government for a long time and at odds with the Obama administration and people like Netanyahu adore Trump. There's plenty of fascists in Israel and in its government, Trump presidency is great for them.

There is a lot of unrest here because netanyahu has not said anything.

Other ministers have come out against Trump and that he has not condemned the neo Nazis.

Oh look, Israel doesn't actual care about real instances of anti-Semitism, preferring instead to use it as a cudgel against legitimate criticism of their odious, right-wing agenda.

To be fair, Kerry actually did attempt to give a shit about fixing the situation before things went south in 2014

This, sadly.
The situation is fucked and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

This is definitely realpolitik when you consider that Israel's biggest objective of Israeli foreign policy is to be a local hegemon under American protection. Even though many of the Nazis in Charlottesville would love to slaughter every Israeli man, woman, and child, Netanyahu's government knows that their alliance with the USA is too precious to risk. And Trump is uniquely helpful for Israel thanks to his feelings about Islam.

It seems Obamas hands were forced, not that he wanted to do any of this. One of his last acts is quite telling. He was on his way out and he didn't have to fear the consequences and it's likely we got to see how Obama really felt. His relations had really soured with Netanyahu behind closed doors, with him going to congress and counting on the republicans to save him.
There is a similar situation with Saudi Arabia, where you get the sense that relations worsened and broke down and the Saudis hoping that the next president would be favorable to better deals (for them).

As a president, Obama got a lot of flack of having to maintain a military industrial complex based machine, with many pro-Netanyahu's within his own party that made it so he could not back away. It reminds us that a proper presidents power does not (and should not) overstep his party, even if the party is wrong. If Democrats have to change, it has to be an ideological change from within.
You have a young liberal democratic flock of people coming in, who ain't down with this shit anymore, and it's not open for debate for them, or a lot of the extended world that you can have major candidates with friendly relationships with guys like Netanyahu.

And really, it makes a lot of sense that Obama really did not like Netanyahus government, because that is something Senator Obama who ran for president wouldn't have.
The foreign policy actions of Obama probably put him in a lot of spots he didn't want to.
It's said that it was Hillary who was insistent on the rebels on the grounds in Syria and intervening more closely in the proxy war, while he was hesitant and didn't want to get involved.
Which makes sense when you measure the temperament and historical approach to foreign policy on both of them.

Hillary was also a lot more favorable towards Netanyahu and agreeable to him, even though she didn't like the settlements. A perverse hand wavering statement that talks about it being bad, but enabling the people behind the misery caused, all the same.

I hope all the Democrats of that guard, completely abandon the militarization and foreign proxy wars, because it's unacceptable, inhumane and totalitarian.

Tell me more about these terrible years of Obama.

The dig at Obama was totally unnecessary to ballwash Donald, but I guess Kara couldn't help himself.

I feel like we've seen this from the beginning, and it's a tremendous mistake for Israel to get this partisan about associating with the United States long-term.

They're going to have to turn to Russia for international support in the 2020s because they'll have alienated the Democrats to the point where we won't stump for them on the international stage anymore (as much as many Democrats are still in AIPAC's pocket, pragmatists like Gillibrand abandoning support for that odious BDS law shows that pro-Israel Democrats at least know that the base is starting to reject uncritical support for Israel).

It's funny how the only country learning anything positive from WW2 was Germany, and probably just because they had no other choice. Fascism is only bad when you're not the one in power.
