PS4 owners who upgraded to PS4 Pro, was it worth it?

I traded in my base PS4 and a PS3 and some other stuff for my PS4 pro, so it didn't cost more than a few bucks. I originally had a 4K tv without hdr and now I upgraded to the tcl p series with hdr. The pro is for sure a great upgrade over the pro especially with a good hdr tv. Very happy with it.

Even without any Pro enhancements, some games load super fast on the Pro (Bloodborne, I'm looking at YOU) which makes it super worth it.

Of course the games which do have Pro enhancements look nicer.

Only when I got the 4k HDR TV recently that the PS4 pro shined. Before then it was hardly an upgrade to be frank. The super sampling stuff was only slightly noticeable.

At first I wasn't impressed, but after seeing my friend play Horizon on the OG PS4 I feel like it is. Obviously having a 4K tv will help, but even on the games that downsample it looks better.

Plus my local EB is awesome, I traded in my PS4 and a game(Assassins creed Black Flag lol) and got the pro for no extra cash.

I'd say if you're into PSVR especially it's a no brainer.

Oh and of course, Boost mode is nice in games that don't have a pro patch. It makes just cause 3 more playable, for instance.

But again, the one x will have something similar in place, and better by all accounts.

I'd say only if you have PS VR. Enhanced visuals/frame rate is very nice. Otherwise, I'd rather have a slim in my cabinet.

Probably not in the end.

I have a hard time telling the differences in the enhancements without them being side by side.

With that said, the peace of mind with knowing I am playing it the best way I can on console is why I bought it

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I don't really think it was worth it, but I don't regret it.

I have a 4K TV. Maybe I just haven't played enough Pro-enhanced games.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
I'm glad I got it because I'm a hardware guy. But it's still surprising to me even Sony has some poor support at times for the pro.

I don't understand how Horizon can run at 1800p, 4k checkerboard, but Uncharted sits at 1440p. Like come on.

Crash was another let down. Game is 30 fps. Yes it looks amazing but I believe it hits 1080p on the PS4 amateur? The pro is capable of hitting higher resolutions.

The games that have used the pro the best for me are Nex machina, ratchet and clank and the surge. The list should be a lot longer.

For the people that wanted a lot of downsampling, they're most likely feeling that it isn't worth it but if you have the PSVR and a capable HDR 4k TV, it really is a nice little upgrade for better visual fidelity mostly. Boost Mode is great too.

So wait.... PS4 Pro can remote play 1080p to a computer? I know base PS4 is locked to 720.

I had a base PS4 and upgraded thinking I'd have a 4K TV soon, which I don't. With a regular 1080p display, I'd say it isn't really worth it, much like the X1X isn't.

Correct, also has 1080p Twitch streaming now with the new firmware pretty sure

That's awesome, didn't know that. I'll have to try it out sometime.

I'll put it this way, if you offered me $150 and a brand new PS4 Slim in exchange for my Pro, I would not accept it.

The upgrade wasn't mindblowing since I only have a 1080p TV, but it's appreciable enough that I don't regret the extra money spent at all, and significant enough that going back to a regular PS4 would be a noticeable downgrade.

Enjoyed playing Rise of the Tomb Raider in all three game modes, TitanFall 2 looked way crisper. Games load a little quicker too. Was the upgrade worth it? It's a no since I don't really own a 4K tv. So why did I upgrade? Well it's a newer PS4 and I am a fan of PS since early childhood, was going to get it on day zero!

Ultimately worth it for me. PS4 is my main gaming platform this gen, and I think when all was said and done I only paid $~200 out of pocket between GameStop trade in shenanigans. Even on my 720p plasma, the picture clearly looks better.

honestly for me, not really yet. Got a ks8000. horizon looks nice, but not sure if its the post processing or filters but its still kinda blurryish. And stuff pop-in pretty abrupt in the distance which ruins the otherwise pretty game.

And everything else i play are mostly jp games that came out in japan a while back so no real ps4p enhancements.

This thing is also way louder than my old ps4 lol. feel like if this console came out a year or 2 later with more power it would be more meaningful.

Are there any 4K streaming movie rental services on the Pro? I checked out Vudu on my Pro, but it's 1080p for their highest format - at least what I could see looking at the newest releases.

Not worth it. I've played the best the platform can offer visually but to be honest, I was not blown away. Sure, some games look a little better but we're not talking "holy shit" generational leap different. Also, the no UHD player is just nonsense.

I'd have to say I'm happy with upgrading to the Pro. At least now I won't have to keep wondering what I might be missing if I stayed with the "inferior" PS4.

Are their any good examples of the difference in image quality on a 1080p display? Like a video or something? I'm pretty curious.

Check out Watch Dogs 2, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout Omega, The Surge, Uncharted 4, etc. Too many to name. Take a look at the current gen Screenshots thread and some of the YouTube Candyland comparison videos.

Yes, it's pretty cool but also not widely supported.

What's not widely supported?

absolutely

the unlocked framerate for Dark Souls 3 alone is worth the buy for me.

I just wish Sony would release a patch to boost the FPS for Bloodborne

Bloodbourne patch would be so godlike. Sony should just fund the patch themselves to sell Pros.

It was easily worth it to me, since I had a 4k TV and PSVR. But I still waited for a sale due to it being released at the same time as PSVR, and because it didn't support UHD BR.

4k60 WipEout pushed me over the edge though.

I don't regret upgrading but it's very much a luxury. I didn't actually notice the upgrade until going back to OG PS4 at a friend's house and noticing frame rate dips where the pro has none.

I think it was worth it since it didnt end up costing that much as I sold my PS4 at the same time.

It's a good machine and I enjoy the extra features.

I like the decreasing loading times paired with a hybrid drive/external.
I like the Pro versions of game such as Horizon and GTS.
I like the base PS4 games such as Yakuza 0 with reduced or no tearing.
I don't regret it.

So what exactly out of the box are the benefits? The console itself looks worse than the regular PS4 but I have some trade credit and may upgrade to the white PS4 pro. I'm just curious what the specific advantages are.

Faster loading, better frame rates, higher resolution, near silent fans.

It's not as large and ugly as it looks in photos is barely bigger than a launch ps4 t a little longer.
