Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition announced (iOS/And/W10), same plot, Fall 2017

They poured a lot of money into XV's development. Getting the absolute most from it with the console DLC, PC 4K release, and the mobile version seems like a sound decision. I doubt the new versions were costly to develop. I don't care for the art style, but there will be people that are interested in this

Man a simpler version of FFXV's story might actually not be that bad so I am interested.

Gladio's design is awful tho, he doesn't look like he actually has any eyes. Is this what Cup Noodles does to you?

And here i was.... thinking that square-enix wouldn't surprise me with their shit anymore

What a fool!

(god i can't stop laughing at gladiolus)

For a smartphone game, I think it actually looks graphically (and maybe also gameplaywise?) quite ok and ambitious. Not simplified too much.

Also, the "New Empire" has for some reason many downloads. So I guess this will also attract some of these players. And because the "New Empire" is being heavily advertised, and thus the brand, I think it will indirectly also help to sell the Pocket Edition.

Cool idea, gameplay looks more than servicable for a mobile game. Nothing against it whatsoever.

But holy Christ, those character models are just ass. It needs to be reworked completely to be appealing.

Gotta keep milking I guess.

At least it looks better than that empire building mobile game that they came out with before for XV....

Aw heck I'm getting it now! Hopefully it runs good on the Note 8 (which apparently might get announced at the end of this month) and not like Dragon Quest 8 on my S7 Edge.

What? There games have performance problems on the Edge 7? :( I guess that's why the framerate in the trailer is bad.

And the wast majority of the liking-button is green. So? I don't think that this means a lot

Touche. I think it does tho. It's Youtube. Everyone (no I don't mean literally) uses it. At the very least it shows that people dissatisfied with XV are more than just a "vocal minority."

I remember a time when Final Fantasy was synonymous with prestige and cachet.

S-E sticking to the FFXIII ethos of milking the shit out of a middling title. At least they might put what money they earn with this strategy toward producing games befitting of their pedigree.

I have absolutely 0 idea why the existence of this is a bad thing?

I'm going to be able to play a nice looking FF game on my phone. It is better than not having this option.

I mean I was happily ploughing through FFT this morning... great to have stuff like this on phone.

I think this is more than likely tainted with people being all "OMG MOBILE GAME Y U NOT MAKE PROPER GAME". There is a bit of a kneejerk reaction the very second something like iOS is mentioned, assuming because people cannot see that there is more to an audience than people plugged into their front room.

I'm there with you. While I deeply like this game, there is probably a not so small number of people that is dissatisfied with it and that's ok to express it.

Regarding the pocket edition: I think it's good for people that are interested in the final fantasy brand but don't have a console (or powerfull pc). Could maybe be the entry drug

Let people on mobile have it if they want. I suppose it's nice to have options. Personally, I'm not interested at all.

I mean, by the looks of the like/dislike ratio, there are demonstrably more people who liked that video than people who disliked it. Anyone who vocalizes their dislike is by definition a part of the "vocal minority".

Very weird but could be very interesting. More excited by the Bestiary and chapter select mode though haha

Yikes. Then again, FFXV is not to my liking so this isn't targeted at me at all. Oh well.
I see they finally announced it. Couldn't believe this when someone mentioned this last week. What a huge switch in art direction.
It's their go-to tactic when their poly and texture budget goes below next-next gen targets. Remember the DS remakes of the earlier FF's? It's a cheap and easy way to keep performance requirements within reasonable constraints.

At least that's what I'm telling myself...

I'm a FF fanboy since the 90s, and even I think this is an interesting, but unnecessary idea.

Stop milking the way out of FFXV, Square. You're killing the game :/

Just looked at the trailer and...

Is it weird that I actually kinda dig it? Like, i kinda like the style they are going for.

I wonder if they are including the character dlc stories into this.

I have no problem with it. It's just like the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI compare with PS4 version. And 3DS version sold better than the PS4 version in Japan.

Not digging the character design. Gladio looks horrendous. So this is just a retelling of the story but for casual fans right? It would be cool if they added more story content or fleshed it out more in this, but that is expecting too much out of SE.
