I will be getting the standard edition for YS Origin. I can't be bothered with that Special Edition drama, and potential let down if I can get one.

I don't think there's any reason the spoiler email info that we're already discussing. ;)

Edit: ah you fixed it

Yeah, didn't realize I did a spoiler instead on a quote.

Having a look: the collector's edition extras don't interest me at all, and Asdivine Hearts's reviews are baaaaaaaaaaaaad. So, I guess I'll just pre-order both regular Ys Origin editions to throw onto my Hold Pile (like, seriously, this will bring the pile up to nine games).

So Ys standard is full-on preorder? There won't be an alternate cover for the preorder?

Yep. All standards are preorders.

but the standard edition will be open to order for a full 24-hour window. After 24 hours pass, orders will close.

Interesting to note:
No, Ys is already in manufacturing. We'll actually have PS4 copies next Monday.

Everything must be ready to go but they are waiting on numbers from preorders and so on?

I'm glad LRG is giving the preorder model another try. If it proves to be a success, whatever that means to LRG, maybe we'll see more of it with higher profile releases, well as long as the rights holders to a given game agree to it.

I appreciate the try, but I wish it was the CE that was open to preorders :( I'm very anxious about missing out on it, having been an Ys fan since the Turbo Days. And I don't want to send a dime to a dirty terrorist scalper.

Edit: Waiiiit, no soundtrack?!?!?

Is it possible they got held up at the post office or something? If something did happen, I am sure they have replacements especially for someone who is a long time customer.

Even if it got held by the customs, I'd have gotten a notice from them at this point. Ever since the order was shipped, the tracking never worked, and it still doesn't. I'm really hoping it's something that can be easily solved.

Excellent! I'm on vacation right now with crappy internet. No way could I get Ys in under 2 min, so I was really worried I might miss out. Glad LRG went with preorders for this. Will try to get the CE first since it's just $5 more.

Now I only have to worry about Asdivine Hearts.

Woot thanks guys for listening to the fans. Even if you just do this for certain releases I think it will help a lot. Also since the CE's will be limited it should still keep the traffic up for your releases.

You may want to check the prices again.

The CE is $25 more.

So what seems to have happened and is going on now is that they ordered their original batch before having decided on preorders and that is currently what is being produced.

We already have 7500 and 6500 copies of the game in manufacturing for PS4/Vita, respectively.

We made the decision to do preorders after Night Trap and we already had our original amounts ordered.

From their Twitter.

Then any other copies beyond that amount would be printed from the preorder batch? Minus the 3000 for each of those from this batch for CE, that's 4500 PS4 and 3500 Vita that were made for the usual run then whatever else from preorders beyond that. I wonder what the timeframe will be though on any preorder copies that are not part of that initial batch.

I think I'll order the standard edition. The collector's edition is an extra $25 for a "small" artbook and a poster. I'm used to getting a lot more for a lot less with other publishers.

Ugh don't they tend to ship US orders first too, international orders gonna get the shaft here.

Damn. They had the Vita CE at $30 in my email. Wasn't really paying attention and just assumed the regular was $25. Will definitely stick to the regular edition. $25 for a 72-page artbook? I'll pass on that.

Not fighting against standard peeps for Ys is a great thing. I'm not sure which version of the CE to get tho.

In for the Vita Ys origin standard edition.

I'm still debating whether I need a PS4 version, but if I do it will be the CE...

If a soundtrack had been included (even a selection) I would have been all over that CE.

I wonder if there was an issue with costs or something. Like I'd imagine they would have wanted to make this CE like the one in Korea if possible.

If you want the soundtrack and bigger artbook grab the Heavyarms LE and the US standard then you have best of both worlds.

Link. They might still have some available.

As far as LRG has seen though, that LE is the Korean version of the game. I wonder just what that distributor for Heavyarm was going for since all the official sources LRG was in contact with said that was a Korea only release.

Which is why he said to get the standard version from LRG, because if the copy that comes with the asian limited edition is korean, you'll still have an english copy thanks to LRG.

Still an odd purchase where there's miscommunication, or at least seemingly. If even the people handling the release are telling you one thing and the distributor is telling the store another thing, it's strange.

What the email says.

e've heard your feedback after Wonder Boy and Night Trap and for the first time since our Skullgirls run in 2015 - Ys Origin will be sold as a preorder and be manufactured to demand. The Collector's Edition will be limited to just 3,000 copies per platform, but the standard edition will be open to order for a full 24-hour window. After 24 hours pass, orders will close.

Who knows it could be that the Korean version will have English in it but we won't really know until that version releases. But their le comes with the soundtrack and art book and honestly those being in another language doesn't really matter. So going with that for the goods and lrg for the US release is basically a win win.

A little late but deep in the email about the new plans they had this:
If you're going to attend PAX West, we'll also have an exclusive cover variant for the PS4 version available. We'll reveal that cover art closer to Friday! Online customers will have a chance to order this variant after PAX West is over.

So it's definitely Ys Origin that has the PAX variant.

Awesome solution for Ys. That said, I hope it doesn't take too long to get the copies out (especially since they're already in manufacturing).

From LRG forums:
The original idea for this was to print a variant cover and that version would be the "open" edition.

That will be how it's handled going forward. We couldn't do this for Ys Origin due to some roadblocks out of our control. It was our original plan but we couldn't back out of trying some form of pre-order again after it was spread all over the internet.

The pre-order window is only 24 hours and will only be for big titles. Like in hindsight, we would have done this for Night Trap and Wonder Boy. We won't ever make our collector's editions open due to the lead time needed to make those.

But again, this is a test. If we sell fewer units doing this than we had originally planned we will be scrapping this idea.

So a variant was going to happen and will happen for future preorders. But if this doesn't work then we won't get preorders like this again.

it's funny that i had an idea of them doing a second run but the back and front are white covers aside from logos and ps4 spec stuff with the title of the game in the plainest of plain fonts but i guess a variant cover would be good enough

tho i wonder if they're in talks with the night trap team to do another run of this because of how quick it ran out

I don't think so. They did say they would have done this for Night Trap/Wonder Boy looking back.

Yeah, I thought they should be 'logo' with plain font or something, but who knows what those variants will look like in the future should this preorder test be successful. However, if this fails, we won't ever get preorders again.

I hope this is a tremendous success because the Friday free-for-all is annoying.
As do I. This is exactly what I wanted, however I've got zero interest in either of the games this week (in the minority there I reckon) so I will be sat on the sidelines hoping all goes well for the sake of future releases.

Ghostblade HD trophies popped up so i'm guessing the LRG release will be soon, i think Broken Age was a week or 2 before it went up for sale

they still have rabi-ribi to sell which releases in europe next week it could be a dual release

Rabi Ribi I think is PS4/Vita though? PS4 only is what's coming in September.

Ghost Blade HD isn't Asian

Well, seems they may have said it was previously released in Asia, which it was.

Anyone else still waiting for their wonder boy to ship? Guess now is a good time to open up a ticket.

Apparently they have about 20,000 things to ship and only just started on Night Trap recently. Could just be in the mix.

I hope the pre-orders are here to stay. Has anyone played Asdivine? Because it looks interesting but I'm not sure if it's worth trying to rush through checkout in 30 seconds.

The reviews seem to be either "it's good for Kemco" or "this isn't that great". You may need to see for yourself if you'd like it with some gameplay vids and stuff.

Preorders will probably hinge on this doing well. Hopefully people put their money where their mouths are :/

Mine shipped a couple days ago and arrived today (Alaska).

I am. They added a tracking number but it hasn't done anything for a week now.😕

I haven't even received a tracking number yet. I'll pump the brakes on opening a ticket since they're slammed with orders. Will give it another week or so. Just got a little nervous seeing some people getting Night Trap already but still no movement on Wonder Boy.
