WindowsCentral: Xbox One X Amazon pre-orders surpass PS4 Pro YTD for 2017

I have a pre-order but don't intend to keep it. Just did it to get one in and see if they announce anything worth keeping it for. I have very little hope.

Wow, but then again, Microsoft is doing a much better job of advertising their console than Sony did with the Pro.

Sony was just kind of like "yeah it's here if you want it I guess... or not, whatever."

Holy shit that sounds huge if its not some sort of spin.

Could we be about to have a gen where all 3 do well? That would be amazing.

Possible, sure, but not likely. The S and X have such a different price point that one would assume they are catering to two different types of customers. Also, to be fair Sony has had a dearth of fantastic games come out over the last 8 months and they also have the Pro. IIRC, they are up 10-15% YOY (NPD) so far. Really strong results for them. The S really has fallen off the pace. I am going to guess that it will show an uptick in September and October as we approach the holidays.

Ummm, you mean the opposite of dearth (plethora, for example) lol. How am I the first person to correct this?!

Great news for Xbox One X, but Pro sales made up 1/5 of total PS4 sales in the period since its launch.

It will be interesting to see what the split will be for Xbox One going into the Holiday.

I also wonder if the pre-orders selling out so quickly is due to the XBX being the PS (Scorpio) edition. MS were saying it's a limited edition version, and once it sells out, that's it. Might get people to jump in quicker.

Meanwhile, that's the only Xbox One console SKU in the top 100 for 2017, all the way at #66.

The Switch has SKUs at #6 (gray) and #20 (neon).

PS4 peaks at #9, with the Slim. #90 for the Pro. So the Pro is selling faster than the Xbox One S in 2017 (on Amazon).

Cratering XBS sales is good? How?

*Edit: This is based on the list posted, if the XBS is actually there disregard this whole conversation.

I didn't say cratering S sales was a good idea for MS. I simply said the Scorpio announcement may have had a significant impact on S sales this past year.

As a matter of fact, I recall many gaming media sites posing the question, "Will the Scorpio announcement affect S sales."

Pro wasn't a big deal for Sony Ps4 is and was doing so well. MS really needs the X to do well. I've still never seen a Pro commercial on TV.

Why is the regular Xone or One S nowhere to be found in the list of top 100 for the year? One X preorders are more than regular Xone and One S sales for the whole year?

The biggest chunk of people who were gonna buy a pro did so last year. Xbox is gonna find success with the X but comparing and celebrating this news is laughable and requires you to throw logic out the window for the sake of KoNsOlE WaRZzz.

I currently own a Pro and am getting an Xbox One X just so people dont label me as anything.

Keep in mind that if NPD/Media Create has taught is anything, after the Top 10/20 the difference between rankings on the latter charts tend to be pretty minimal.

I think selling more One X than Pros is good for Microsoft though. Especially if they sell more than the One S models.

That's really Surprising the Pro is selling better than the S considering the price difference.

Sigh.

It's because Amazon rankings are borked a lot of the time due to multiple SKUs or SKUs disappearing entirely from the database.

It's perhaps also the case here but who knows?

I mean, if we believe the 2016 yearly Amazon rankings, The PS4 Pro alone sold more than -any- Xbox One SKU.

Does that sound right?

I mean xbox one has had the weaker hardware since launch so I fully expect an upgraded xbox will be in high demand among Xbox owners. On the Playstation side the PS4 Pro wasn't that much stronger than the already great PS4.

Xbox- Desperately needs a hardware upgrade
PS4-Wasn't in much need of hardware uprade

And there is currently only one Xbox One X SKU.

There are at least three different PS4 Pros I see:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LOP8EZC/?tag=neogaf0e-20 (Pro only)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073RTKFY4/?tag=neogaf0e-20 (Pro + Destiny 2)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAIAV6X/?tag=neogaf0e-20 (Pro + controller)

The console-only PS4 Pro SKU is leading the three as it cracked the top 100. How many of the other two are being sold?

For some completely guesstimated numbers, let's imagine Xbox One X had 1M preorders for Amazon and sold them all. Great!

If the PS4 Pro-only SKU sold 800k, the Pro+controller sold 400k, and Pro+Destiny 2 sold 200k, you're looking at 1.4M PS4 Pros vs. 1.0M Xbox One X's.

Are these numbers close to reality? Who knows. Which is why it's fair to be pleased with the Xbox One X pre-orders, but it doesn't make much sense to compare one SKU to only one out of three on the list, as the article does.

That's fair.

I hope this is true, but obviously no one has actually bought one yet (from Amazon).

For reference I had a launch PS4 Pro ordered with Amazon. I do not, and have never owned a PS4 Pro.

That said, I have a One X preorder with them, and I will definitely own a One X on launch day.

I agree. If the difference is minimal it's not impressive at all that preorders for 4 days are on par with sales of 7+ months.

Kidding aside, if comparisons must be made, the more accurate would be comparing the first two months of Pro sales vs the first two months of XBX sales

No matter how you interpret these results it's certainly not bad news for the Xbox One X. It's either good or possibly great.

I'd suspect a large percentage of those preorders are x1 owners. I highly doubt someone just jumping into this gen are paying 500. People that wait nearly 4 years to jump in are casuals are price sensitive.

If I wanted a new console and didn't care about great exclusives I'd pick the X over the Pro but still a PC over X. The X is just much more compelling package from backwards compatibility to formfactor but it goes to show how warped the industry has become when the company investing the most in developing high quality software exclusively for their hardware is supposedly getting their mid-gen refresh beat by a company who instead of doing that opted to simply choose better specs off amd's shelf and shout 4K at the top of their lungs when the difference between native and checkerboarding is fuck-all unless you're deliberately examining the pixels with your face against the screen.

The X will never catch PS4 sales though and its momentum can be put to a dangerous a halt with the mention of a PS5 next year but I hope Sony feels this jab in this stupid little mini-spec war and feels it enough to at least get backwards compatibility working and fully implemented with their next piece of hardware and Sony's fans deserve the attitude and confidence and grit of 2013-Sony to reveal and launch it, no more obtuse and confusing messaging with all due respect to Mark Cerny the general consumer knows ''xbox shout 4k, but peepol said Sony is not real 4k'' and that's it. The longer Sony delays the PS5 the bigger Xbox's market share could grow and they need to be wary of it. Ultimately this doesn't mean shit without sell-through so we'll wait to see who's mid-gen console actually comes out on top and how Sony reacts to it.

Surely no one is surprised?

Sony didn't give anyone a really compelling reason to upgrade from the base model, barely marketed the thing and it's unveil was shite.

The One X is a substantial leap from the base model and the hardcore were always going to upgrade which is where all these sales are coming from. MS had a year and a half hype cycle going on it.

The key will be how it sells after December. I fully expect "Xbox family" to win out November and December as a result of One X, Minecraft One S and $199 One S. But sales will most likely fall off a cliff after that.

On Amazon? Sure. Remember Xbox One had like a dozen bundles last year. Just off the top of my head

Rainbow Six bundle
Name your game bundle
Division bundle
Quantum Break bundle
Xbox One S Halo bundle
Xbox One S Madden bundle
Xbox One S 2TB bundle
Xbox One S Minecraft bundle
Like 2 different Gears of War 4 and Battlefield 1 bundles

Also including leftover bundles from 2015.

This is just Amazon so we can't say the One X selling more than the Pro is a trend or an exception. One retailer versus an entire marketplace.

No one is surprised at you pretending the Pro hasn't sold well.

I dunno which sold best, but my GOD! So o muchas Salt here

Anyway, Amazon sales are not total, but I am glad it's going good :)

Quoting with an edit of myself from another thread:
You are incorrect. People who do not like [insert console name] will not post "salty" posts. There won't be any at all. They will provide nothing but valid criticism, invaluable insight and meaningful dialogue. If you think otherwise, that is just a persecution complex

There really hasn't been enticing S bundles this year TBH. They had a Forza Horizon bundle and a halo wars 2 bundle. Those aren't gonna be major sellers

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Son, you haven't even seen salt. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Ponies on fire off the weak sales. I watched X-heads glitter in the dark near the pre-order numbers. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain...Time to play.
