WindowsCentral: Xbox One X Amazon pre-orders surpass PS4 Pro YTD for 2017

Makes sense. Xbox One X preorders have surpassed PS4 Pro sales on Amazon for 2017. What would be more interesting is to compare XBOX preorders vs PS4 Pro preorders from 2016.

..but cry so much I wish I had some
They just announced a PS4 Slim GT Sport bundle. Not for the Pro. That says a lot as to which Sony is pushing as their main selling box. Here, like MS, the Pro is for the core gamer and maybe the ones with PSVR.

And they have a Pro Bundle with Destiny 2, arguably a much bigger game than GTS. So what's your point here?

I'm waiting for the "Don't read too much into the Xbox One X's strong pre-order numbers" article that is sure to appear very soon...

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!! Amazing hardware, premium console coming out swinging.

Elite pad & possibly X showing there's a hungry market for high end console gaming.

As someone that just sold their PS4 Slim and now only has the Pro, I can't help but think the PS4 Pro is still not worth owning and isn't worth it even with a 4KTV. The base PS4 is a totally fine system in terms of power. What the Pro offers as a "step up" is... minimal, on the whole.

The leap from Xbox One to X will be much greater given the former starts from a lot less power than a PS4, but what I really want to come away thinking is that the Xbox One X really is a substantial leap even above the base PS4, not just the Xbox One/S (the Pro simply is not that). With its specs and comparative feature set, I think it will be and that's why I pre-ordered. I definitely would not buy a PS4 Pro again at this point, though.

Do all of the 360 BC titles getting a boost count? Or all of the XB1 titles with variable resolutions being fixed at 1080p?

Just wanted to see what the rules of this engagement are...

Don't need to get all technical with me. My response was because I saw what I perceived to be a mistaken perception, and I shared a thread that had evidence that it was not the case.

As far as I remember, XB1X currently boast >110 games that will be X-enhanced. Sony boasted around 70-80 in the marketing of Pro prior-to-launch ( not all at launch, but the list of Pro enhanced titles had roughly that amount ), but because it's been out longer now, that number has risen to 156, excluding VR/boost mode titles.

I'm using the "number" that is presented by MS as their definition for enhanced, so 110+ as of this moment.

Its a huge leap from everything except the Pro. But it could be a good leap frpm the pro. Need to see comparisons.

The real question is after launch, what deals will they have for users looking to jump in. they surely arent gonna keep it at 500 forever, i dont know what deals Sony has done for pro for that matter

Which is what my first post said. I completely expect One X and "Xbox family" sales to drop off a cliff in January.

I expect they'll take November and December.

I hope this means more consumer acceptance of premium-priced consoles.

A $499-599 PS5X2 with better specs would be awesome.

Not necessarily true. High-end buyers tend to be ones who buy at/near launch. Like any system launch, let's wait until January-onward to make that claim.

Not much of a prediction since that happens every year.

In an ideal world it would sell well year round

First, for whatever reason, the Pro has been out of stock for various lengthy periods of time on Amazon in 2017. Second, there have been multiple SKU's offered for the Pro as well thus maybe scattering the sales data.
.

I'd be curious to know why it was out of stock so often. It seemed available at other major retailers but not Amazon.

That depends on your point of view about GT Sport. Some think that's a bigger release than Destiny 2. My point was spelled out. The PS4 slim and the Xbox One S are the consoles both parties think will sell more.

The other point is that there are solid reason the PS4 Pro exist. They are more about more powerful hardware to support PSVR and Faux K to help sell Sony TVs.

I think that is kind of expected ? Most people that are getting this pricey Xbox are enthusiasts, who usually are early adopters . The question is how the xbox one x holds up after few months. I bet it will sell the same or less than ps4 pro in a few months

So, guys, Is the Xbox one X winning the Nov/Dec NPD's?

Not a chance. It will do well in November since it launches on the 7th and then they have the early Holiday shoppers and then black Friday. Add all that up and they could do well in November, but I would expect most retailers to have big Xbox One S/PS4 Standard bundles that will drive incredible amount of units.

For December it will be the same thing....tons of bundles, maybe retail bundles of X1X but I doubt that they can take the crown in both months since there is so many sales and I don't see a lot of discounting of the X1X during that time. It will do great, but not lead the NPD numbers.

A $499 price will prevent that from happening.

Anecdotally, the vast majority of sale appear to be coming from upgraders like myself.

Xbox will take November, without any question. Nothing can stop that. There will be the usual back and forth language over who won Black Friday specifically and who won the month and usual percentage gains, etc. I dunno if Xbox will win Black Friday but it's clear MS is putting this in November so that they have that big headline when they inevitably take the month.

There are 3 console SKUs in the top 50 on Amazon for 2017. All three are priced $299.99 or less MSRP.

Most consumers want the more affordable boxes.

I would say that the One X selling the same or more than the Pro with half the PS4 install base is good for Microsoft in the sense that it effectively validates their strategy of aiming towards their diehard fans. There is a set amount of their fans that will buy whatever they put out and I think they can figure out just how many there are based on One X sales.

The Switch is taking November and December provided they have the stock.

Interesting. If a majority of people getting an Xbox One X are already Xbox One owners, then that doesn't really increase the install base. Will be interesting to see if there's any meaningful increase in Xbox Live accounts.

Indeed, I agree, though it looks like the amount of base Xbox One users doing the switch is quite bigger compared to base PS4 users to the Pro

Elite pad is a success at least. And for a $500 console this is a damn strong start.

Not terribly surprised. The hardcore Xbox fanbase will show up to support the console, and it will debut well.

I expect MS to sell through everything they ship this holiday season. How much they ship, I'm not sure.

It was always gonna have a strong start in my head, xbox core base was always going to come out to support it, plus the power messaging will have swayed some casuals, sustaining that momentum is where the battle will be at but if they can drop the $499 after not too long they will be in a good space

Except we don't really have any base numbers for this yet. As others have said, Pro had stock issues on Amazon throughout the year. I'm sure it will have a good start--I'm just not ready to jump to the "Its taking November NPD!!!!" like some in here are.

For sure. But Microsoft gave base owners a far bigger incentive to upgrade than Sony did.

I'm being sincere when I ask what you think that is. I'm getting one and I'm not quite sure yet what their incentive is. I know what my reasons are though.
