There are a couple of disappointing choices in character choice and art style, but bare bones wouldn't be something I call it.

What is "missing"?

Character endings. No real "bonus" modes (e.g. Heroes and Heralds-type games).

Also don't discount a disappointing roster and bad character models, that stuff matters.

Yea I remember SFxT had this. Wonder why they didnt just throw it in , its actually quite a fun casual mode.

Yeah I think relative to the effort it would require to implement this could be the game's biggest misstep. As a 1v1 fighting game obviously it can't compete with NRS's polish but they could still have pushed it as a chaotic 4-player Marvel game, between all 3 platforms I'm sure it would've caught a bigger audience's attention. I have no idea what they were thinking not building the game with this in mind from the beginning.

The only way Arcade can redeem itself is if it allows me to enter my initials.

If not, fuck that mode completely.

SF5 is on ESPN of all places. Marvel, most likely, will too. Their first (and only? lol) thought was the competitive side of the game.

Does that sell copies? I dunno. Probably not. What do they want out of the game tho, is it to sell 2-3 million copies and thats it, or to stay in the forefront of esports?

Like, no joke, im shocked how much new shit they pump out for SF5, between characters, stages and costumes. They HAVE to have this core group of people that is buying this shit, because we know for a fact that game didnt sell. I dont know how these things work, im actually curious.

Heroes of the Storm is a good one. I keep hearing its not porfitable for blizzard, and yet that game keeps getting more and more content, not less. I dont get it lol.

That's all true but I can't imagine any pro players being off-put by more multiplayer options (as long as they're not being forced as competitive standard like with SFxT in some places). I know SFxT isn't a very popular game but I certainly don't think all the 4 player modes had anything to do with that. In fact, some tournaments would probably even run doubles on the side. It's just a careless, lazy omission that's probably not going to get added down the line.

Wait who said HotS isn't profitable for Blizzard? I find that very unlikely considering that game gets content update about as often if not more often than some of Blizzard's most successful games.

Didnt MvC1 on Dreamcast have 2v2 4Player mode or something? I vaguely recall some MvC game having it.

eSports is like the new buzz word in gaming. Maybe there are many investors who just dump money if they see succesful esports titles. Probably wanting to get in early and then cash out if it becomes a huge phenomenon.

SFV makes money. They could have made so much more. That's the thing. Plus, it's a PR disaster. Had the game had single player content, they would have likely broken their expectations and they would have made even more DLC sales.

The Capcom Cup Prize pool bonus shows that people are buying the content. It just could have been(should have actually) been even more.

SFV didn't completely bomb, they wouldn't keep dumping money in it if it did. It's just in that weird territory where it probably sold enough to keep the franchise alive but executives probably still sweating a bit. They keep making DLC because it keeps selling I would have to guess. So what I'm saying is that Chun Li and Ibuki are saving the street fighter franchise at the moment.

I don't know how infinite will do. Added complications having another party involved. I'm only expecting the initial 6 dlc characters at the moment. I did the same with SFV after all the post launch backlash but once I heard they sold 1.4 million at launch I knew that was enough to at least keep characters going for a couple of years. Since they're constantly dumping out other DLC and they even rebuilt CFN it must be doing well and they publicly stated support until 2020.

I've seen it said in the HotS thread itself!

Dahbomb go make another one of those long ass posts about Dormammu this time.

Hell do it for more characters while you're at it.

No, really.

You can ask Karsticles for that, he is an actual Dorm connoisseur.

You can pair Dorm with a high/low mix up rushdown character and do well with Power stone. Dorm can use Power stone to get people off him while his partner can use Power Storm to keep on the target. Depending on how they made Firebrand in this (can he actually high low), you can pair him with a tri dasher or Jedah.

I am thinking Thor Strange with Time could be good but Thor Strange was already a duo in Marvel 3 so that's less interesting to talk about. We still have Frank plus Dante BFFs.

I need more time thinking broadly about the game and there are still numerous missing variables.

I hope Capcom reaches 2 million sells.

I might talk about a lot of things that disappoint me, but I still want the game to do well. I just know it's going to be a tough mountain to overcome.

it's the stuff from the stream I assume? I prefer to watch with Max going "LOOK AT THAT CRAZY HORSESHIT" in the background :p

Whoa. This is crazy. I... Kind of like this? I'm not even sure haha. I guess it will force players to mix things up instead of spamming the same continuous attack. Between this and perfect guarding (or I mean perfect pushblock) it seems like they're toning down some of the zoning.

they really didnt want another Morrigan situation I guess (or Phoenix too for that matter)

Just watched the Ghost Rider/Jedah trailer for the first time on an actual monitor and not my phone.

Holy shit. This game is starting to look legit good. Some of the animations and effects in particular are looking fantastic. Ghost Rider's new whip move, Dorm's weird vine chain floor thing and his like double downward claw move, Dr. Strange's spells. I mean I'm completely sold on the gameplay at this point, but I'm really excited to see the game's look actually starting to come together. It's still not quite UMvC3 level in terms of raw style, but it ain't bad at all anymore.

Regret to say I like Firebrand's voice now. It's...charmingly annoying.

Hope he's fun to play this time.

I just checked his channel minutes ago for new stuff ;_; good find

That Jedah flying sound sounds very familiar, is it the same from the Darkstalker games?

Ghost Rider says LET THE NIGHTMARE BEGIN when popping reality stone. I like.

well that seems like the plan off that leaked video.

yes i know it's subject to change.

That video was a proposal, not actual plans. We have no idea if they even plan to support it on the tour at this point, just that at some point it was pitched.

As a Dorm player, this is my exact thinking and will be starting with Jedah Dorm + power stone as my first team.

Hell yeah it is.

For all the talk about putting care into characters, they put a lot of love into Jedah. He's got his pursuit as a new move, both of his old supers plus a new one, he's still got the laugh, his air dash works pretty much the same.

All he's missing is the blood inflate command grab and his guard cancel where he cuts his head off. And I can easily see why those aren't there.

This game may be shit in almost everything. But the gameplay looks really fun in my eyes. And looks crazy fun and everything.

Its amazing how gameplay has improve the perception of this game for me. Shame about everything else tho.

JeDante looks fun as hell. I really need to pick someone to use with Jedah.

So far my team ideas are

Spider-Man/Strider
Zero/Gamora

And then just theme teams like X/Zero and Ultron/Sigma

Im rolling Galtron day one
Gamora/ Ultron

I wish Black Panther would be out the first month as he may be interesting.

I'm looking at the Beginners League and thinking that's a really good idea. But I'm also cautiously pessimistic on how they can keep it "clean" so to speak. It only take a few players with effective anti-newb teams and a way to stay low ranked to make it just as unappealing as normal online games for a beginner.

Just off the top of my head, here's how I can think of it breaking.

You don't gain levels in Beginners League
It has to be ranked. If not, you can just stay level one as a pro player and beat up everyone. It has to be possible to get disqualified from the Beginners League by being too good for it.

Level 14 is way too easy to get in Ranked
You need that level to mean something. Like needing a 40% win rate or more to get there. It needs to be possible for someone to realize that they're out of their league in normal Ranked before they disqualify themselves from the Beginners League.

Rewards encourage players to stay in Beginners League instead of "graduating" to Ranked
If winning the Beginners League is more rewarding than reaching higher ranks, people will start to game the system to stay in the Beginners League. You need to funnel the top players away from it, so ranking high must be better than winning in the Beginners League.

In short, the Beginners League needs to be thought through to avoid having players too good for it lingering in it. It's impossible to deal with some pro player who's just starting, of course, but those should disqualify themselves pretty quickly if they play newbs. It sucks to run into one, and it wastes both players' time, but everyone starts at 0 points, no matter how many EVOs they've won. That's just part of a new game... and a good reason to play online a day late.
