Man, why they gotta ruin the one thing people play this for over other puzzle games? Why they gotta do the art dirty like that.

Well, anyway, Puzzle Fighter totally makes sense for mobile and I'm surprised they haven't done it sooner.

But jeez louise those models are ugly as sin

OMG Puzzle Fighter yes! I've never been into a mobile game but...

...oh. No sprites. That art direction. Ugh... should've just direct ported and optimized for touch.

Some of the characters look okay. And some, like X, look real bad.

Because it is one. I wonder if this is Capcom Vancouver's new fate? Mobile games?
Well this make sense now, they should have sourced the art from Japan or something. Even China ripoffs have better art.

I guess that's one way to use all that valuable IP.

Mega Man's gonna catch him some whales.

Just saw the trailer...

It's like the character designer didn't know what Chibi was and was told to just draw huge ugly heads on little bodies.

It' so nuts how Capcom used to have some of, if not the best art direction in video games. I feel like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are the only places where they value that part of their old selves.

Despite the awful launch SFV has an amazing artsyle and animation and is one of the best looking fighters this gen imo.

Oh woooow this art is really ugly. Why couldn't they have just went with the Chibi art from the older Super Puzzle Fighters.... literally noone would have cared and it wouldn't look like.... whatever the hell this currently looks like

The original puzzle fighter had a very nice and cute artstyle; this looks rather horrendous in comparison. Just looking at Morrigan and Chun-li makes me not want to care about it anymore.

One of the best multiplayer games ever. I wonder how this will control on a touch screen. I don't have high hopes for it feeling great =\.

I NEED IT ON MY PHONE SO GOD DAMN BAD

Edit : Jesus the dislikes one that video. Whatever, it's a mobile game. Shit looks fine to me.

You know, when capcom had a ton of money from Monster Hunter, they essentially put nearly all those profits into a mobile games division. How the fuck was this NOT among the first things they did years ago???

That aside, seems like a missed opportunity not to use the ace attorney engine here. It translates 2D visuals damn near perfectly.

I'd pay $20 for a good port of the original Puzzle Fighter on my PC, but this is good also.

It's not. Not at all.

Capcom has been rudderless for a bit now.

Fuck, this is so ugly!
Why didn't they use this style instead!?

I haven't checked but I'm guessing Capcom licensed out the IP to a western developer to make the game since that was mentioned in their recent investor meeting that they are licensing their IP for mobile since they haven't had great success with mobile internally.

Edit:

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/explanation.html

Q: Concerning the licensing agreements in Capcom's mobile business, what kind of agreements have been made, and when will the games be released?

A: We are unable to share any specific details regarding which IP we will use, the names of potential business partners or when service for games will begin at this time. The mobile business is an important matter for us, and we see these licensing agreements as the first step toward building alliances there.

I'd love to know the rational and economics of developing something like this (and thinking that it looks like a winning project) versus just emulating the original and implementing GGPO support.

Yikes, that art. Capcom has seen better day, that's for sure. At least the gameplay looks mostly intact. There seem to be crush and counter gems. I'm sure there are other elements that mess with and or ruin the original game's mechanics though.
