Daniel Cormier reinstated as UFC light heavyweight champion

https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.mma...-reinstated-as-ufc-light-heavyweight-champion
Jon Jones defeated Cormier to win the belt at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, Calif. But Jones tested positive for the steroid Turinabol in an in-competition drug test and the ‘B’ sample confirmed the positive test Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) overturned the fight to a no contest — no longer a win for Jones.

Therefore, Cormier is back to being the champion.

“If it’s a no contest, then the fight didn’t happen,” Cormier said. “[White] said, ‘If one of you guys would have missed weight, he would have won the fight, but you still would have kept the belt. Because of that, the championship is getting returned to you.’ The fight is a no contest. If he cheated, he could not have fought and cheated and still won the fight.

Wow.

Bones is forever the ultimate fuck up champion

The bad guys don't always win. Felt bad for him putting in so much work to get KOed when he was doing well in his last fight.

DC should be smart about how he messages getting that belt back. His next fight should be all about him earning it back himself. Hold the title on the way out, lay it down between the fighters.

Jones is such a wasted talent. I interviewed him years ago, and he was so holier than thou - talked mad shit about "other fighters" out there partying and not holding onto their shit - while he was at home and focusing.

One month later, cocaine, car accident and the 2 girls not his wife in his car as part of it. Just sad that he couldn't step outside his own bullshit.

It's a terrible loss for fight fans that we're missing a lot of Jon Jones' career. I think he's the best ever, and I really doubt steroids were the deciding factor in his victories.

And yet we will never know because he couldn't help himself. The steroyhace cast doubt over his entire career for me

“He disqualified himself by taking a steroid before the fight,” Cormier said. “So it didn’t happen. I get the belt back, which is the right thing to do. And I’m not only saying that because it’s me. It’s the right thing to do. You don’t cheat the sports, you don’t cheat the fans, you don’t cheat me. You have all the physical advantages, sir. You’re 30 years old, you’re 6-4, you have 85-inch reach. … It’s an unfortunate situation. We had one of the biggest fights of the year, and once again this guy has made a mockery of the sport.”

This was so true. He really did have every advantage he could possibly get. He still cheated for this fight and with the way it works, we're just going to assume he has been cheating for the better part of his career.

What a fuck-up.

It's always the holier than thou people who do the exact shit they criticize

Just make it a pro juice league already you're either juicing and getting caught or juicing and not at this point... If you're trying to have a long career

If that were the case, why would he take roids in the first place? What a load of shit. Based on his record, he's likely been taking them for most of his professional career, which makes every one of his wins suspect.

Good to see Cormier got the belt back. The true champ.

Haha Bones, you're done.

What an eternal fuck up that man is, he may have once got empathy from me but not now, that well ran dry years ago. Hope we don't see him in the octagon again.

Cormier is going to get a lot of slack for this too, even though Bones cheated he still beat him, so DC will be looked at as a paper champion. Expect his opponents to go in hard on this.

Hopefully Oezdemir gets the next title shot, dude is 3-0 since joining UFC and 15-1 in his career, he's probably the only LHW that can beat DC.

Agreed, he's a great guy seemingly.

His fighting Style is really boring though, that's what holds him back.

Besides peiple just want the WWF Style persona of Conor

I like DC too, yeah he's a bit boring in his promos but he's a good dude and very funny, plus a great fighter even if he is quite basic. That said, as I said above, the fans won't see him as champion since he was defeated, though now not technically.

I typically like the more personable, humbler fighters, like Demetrious Johnson, although part of that is that he has no competition at flyweight. Dude is very nice, and oh yeah, he's a hardcore gamer too.

Would love to see Oezdemir / DC

Gustafsson is looking good these days too,I wouldn't mind a rematch and he has improved alot since last time.

People should stop supporting Jones. He is a fuck up and keeps fucking up.

DC seems like a great guy that deserves this and deserved a better opponent who didn't cheat.

Cormier is a true champ. Feed him Oezdemir or give him a champion vs champion superfight.

Jones is a disgrace, ban him from the sport, he can do circus shows in WWE or whatever.

Aiii

So not worth it
Well, Brock was trying to return to UFC in early 2018 to fight Jones. But that's definitely not happening.

Make it a wrestling match. I'll watch the Royal Rumble for Lesnar verse Jones. They can both dope up all they want.

Cormier deserves it.

He expressed doubts about taking it but when it comes down to it he makes a hell of a lot more money with the belt than without it.

He has only ever lost to a juicehead so afaik he's the real deal champ.

Has it been confirmed yet that Brock is returning at LHW? I thought that was only to have the Jones/Lesnar dream fight.

Honestly, him coming back at HW and facing Stipe is a far more attractive fight atm.

Brock would never take that fight. He's turtled up from strikes from lesser men. A punch from Stipe would end Brock.

There's no way of knowing, but you can look at the careers of certain folks who have either been caught, or had to stop due to new regulations, and see a substantial dropoff.

He deserves it back 100% but man this just leaves the division in shambles. D.C. should just walk away as champ or move up to HW now that his boy Cain is in Valhalla.

DC deserves it. If I were him though I'd always wonder how it would have turned out if Jones wasn't a cheat. DC was doing well at 214 before the knockout.

The reality is Jon Jones even with all his physical advantages does not have what it takes mentally to be a Champion. I can't fathom how a man in his position can have such a weak self esteem and be so scared mentally. The guy behind it all is just a scared little piece of shit.
