So good.

This year the battle for the Nintendo (maybe even overall) GOTY is going to be HARD.

Awesome! Are there other comparisons?

It's typical with Nintendo though, their games tend to look a little rough at first, and then polished in later showings. The opposite of many other AAA publishers :p

3D World and Hyrule Warriors are good examples from Wii U.

And I think XBC2 looked better in the direct as well. Seemed to have better lighting than at E3.

As it should be. Go all the way with making a game the greatest possible experience to play... then you can go nuts with the aesthetics and graphics until deadline.

I like overanalyzing thing, so I though about other worlds that could be included and arrived in the conclusion that finding such general themes would be difficult but I think of at least 3 that are likely.

- Haunted level ( I mean a Mario game need at least a good old haunted level).

- The moon, probably not the final level as the reveal trailer may suggest that New donk-city take that role, but perhaps the penultimate level, may be the origins of the Rabbits ennemies.

- considering that most levels seem to focus on
bowsers stealing things for the marriage.
However, I do not know of any level that would be inplicated in the most important item of the marriage
the ring
. So, I suppose a cavern level is also probable.

Cap Kingdom is the haunted level, look at all the ghosts. And the eerie yellow moon, Nightmare Before Christmas style hills, etc...

And I thought we had confirmation that Bowser stole the
ring from the Sand Kingdom

Love that shot, I was surprised that actually came from the game at first.

The Switch library for me may already 80% as good as the Wii U's by the end of 2017.

Platformers: Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends

Adventure games/RPGS: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Skyrim, LA Noire

Shooters: Splatoon 2, DOOM, RE: Revelations 1&2

Fighting games: ARMS, Pokken Tournament DX, Ultra Street Fighter 2, DragonBall: Xenoverse 2

Hack n' Slash: Fire Emblem Warriors

Strategy: Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Disgaea 5

Racing: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,

Puzzle: Snipperclips, Puyo Puyo Tetris

Sports: Rocket League, Fifa 18, NBA 2K, WWE 2K18

+ tons of other indie games spanning multiple genres. Something for everyone.

Super Mario Rabbids

Seeing that Mario jump into the paint is so cool. I was predicting we'd go to Peaches Castle and jump in one of the pictures again. I hope it happens.

They need to do 64 Peach castle again and have some short levels remakes. It would be an incredible throwback.

Game looks completely batshit crazy. I'm glad they're just going all out with as many wacky new ideas as they can.

With these transformations/possessions I'm reminded of Banjo Kazooie/Tooie so much, only taken to the super extreme. When I see that Tyrannosaurus in Odyssey wrecking everything I see my unfulfilled Banjo-T-Rex dreams becoming a reality.

I think this is what I like the most about this game.
Like, I remember reading interviews of past 3D Mario games and how they have scrapped entire ideas because they're short of time, or the ideas are too complex, there's a limitation by the hardware or they simply don't find them "good enough" but with this game it's like they're trying really hard to fill the game with new stuff everywhere so it seems like no idea is being left outside the game.

Can't wait for this game.

So unless I'm missing something it looks like this game won't have any "power ups" in the traditional sense and possessing enemies is going to fill roughly the functions that the powerups did?

Just realised at the very end we see a quick glance of what you'll be doing whilst controlling the T-rex.

Running forward whilst smashing down stuff. I guess there's not much else you can do whilst controlling a large dinosaur 🤷

So many moons , think a hidden world or DLC world could be Mario going to the moon.

Also

Given how the moon is so prominent on the level select screen, I think it's a given that you'll go there eventually. Maybe for the final level, or extra "honeymoon" bonus level.

DAMN YOU MARIO!!!

Now I have to buy a Switch. I thought after I managed to resist the 3D series, I was immune to your charms. Then you go and do this...

If this ends up being better than the Galaxy series... I'll just retire from games. I mean, it's feeling pretty likely this might, MIGHT, just top it.

Seriously though, I have the upmost respect for Nintendo. They somehow manage to pull out something fresh for the Mario games that no other franchise comes close to. It's just so impressive.

Also the amiibo picture says you unlock Peach's wedding outfit. Mario in drag orrrrr female playable character? Both are surprising.

People say the 3d platformer died then nintendo comes along and gets people hyped for one like no one else could, ill be there day 0, my most anticipated this year by a mile

Also, the level select screen is the planet. Not a map; not a globe. A planet. It just begs for the camera to pan at the very end to show the moon.

There is no way you're not going to the moon in this game.
I said this before but it'd be hype if you got shot to the moon SMG style and then the levels were all in the style of SMG.

Final level needs to be the wedding itself. Once you reach the end, Mario speaks up before the ceremony is concluded and objects to the union. This, of course, pisses off Bowser and leads into the final battle.

Wow thats a big difference. And people said the game was finished back in January.

I don't think that screenshot indicates the game was "unfinished" in January. It's likely that they just took the extra time to polish and refine things to a wonderful degree. It'd be silly to have the game be "gold" in Jan/Feb and just let it sit there for almost a year.

People who don't understand game development took Koizumi's "the game is basically done" as "WE COULD RELEASE IT TOMORROW BUT WON'T FUCK YOU" instead of "It's content complete and playable."

This makes me want a Super Mario64 remake.

Oh god. I can't keep imagining how good it would be. It's hurting my heart.

But, I'm really interested in the possible connection of the worlds in Odyssey through these paintings/pictures. I do hope it's like Banjo Tooie in that respect, as that's one of the things I liked most about Tooie.

Game looks zany and colorful AF. Looking forward to it.

Any word if they're releasing those Mario Red Joycons standalone in the US, though? They look good and only saw them advertised for solo purchase in Japan and Europe...

Super Mario Odyssey aka The Game that changed the Game. GOAT

Really sucks that this and AC Origins are coming out the same day.

Looks like ACO is gonna have to wait.

Also there is this line in the song.

"Oh, we can zoom all the way to the moon,
From this great wide wacky world"

Yea thats what I meant.
