Is the new Wildstorm any good?

I liked the look of it and enjoyed t he first issue but haven't kept up. Also one of the characters reminding me of Pharah helped.

It's a bit of a slow burn, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As a very selective fan of previous Wildstorm stuff, I'm enjoying it.

I think that's kind of the point. I'm skipping it. I just can't take a game with those shitty visuals seriously. Let's not even talk about the gameplay.

That was pretty much my takeaway... in addition to just plain ugly character designs and models, the demo just wasn't very much fun.

In order to write in comics is it really about who you know? I talked to a famous author a couple weeks back and she told me she had a friend who does and she said that he says it's mostly about who you know. I started writing a script for one a little while ago since I'm struggling with my novel and this makes it sound like I shouldn't bother finishing it.
Yes and no. Yes, you'll need to know editors who are interested in your work. Blind pitches rarely get picked up. Some companies look at all pitches but those are just a few. You'll also need to have some sort of track record of working with an artist. Unless you're a proven author in the regular book world, publishers will want to see that you're able to write and make comics with somebody.

And the no part, no one is stopping you from making a comic and putting it up online. You could commission artists to make comics based on your script or you could convince them to go in with you on projects.

I'm gonna be honest with you, you should make comics because you want to make comics and pretty much no other reason, and it doesn't sound like that's what's driving you.

Really good.

Man, the MvCI DLC characters for Marvel are underwhelming. They're all from the movies.

Cool.

Gonna make a pretty big order soon...might add it to the list but at some point I need to sit down and actually budget stuff :p When release dates shift it screws everything over (like I wanted the Persona 5 Art Book but it got pushed to December...although i'm getting it for £13 so i dm too much).

This is really good advice. I've seen lots of friends/acquaintances successfully navigate their way into comics at Marvel, DC, Image and IDW. The consistent thing was they did it because they really wanted to tell their stories. To the point where we were putting together self published anthologies. This helped establish them as doers and not dreamers.

Even so, that's not always enough. Almost every example I can think of had a connection. It's not impossible to make the leap without one, but it's easily ten times easier with one. There's some who's work I think is subpar and the only reason they're working at Marvel is because of who they know.

And yes, showing you can work with someone is a huge help and can showcase different sides of your work.

I know back in the day a lot of editors at Image imprints were receptive to giving advice and once a rapport was established they were open to pitches.

It they really wanted to stick to movie characters for MvC I'd much rather have Wanda over Black Widow. They could easily give her an 8way airdash and flight and would fit the game better. Plus she'd have a more interesting moveset I'm sure.

From what I see MvCI is a 6/10 for graphics and art style. The art style really fucks up the look for some of the characters. However from watch clips and videos the gameplay looks like a 10/10. That tag tech and power gem gives creating combos a really high ceiling. I'm not buying it right now but I can't wait to watch more developed play from MvCI. I just wish they improved the visuals and put Asura and Yasha in there.

Any got any reccomendation for non- big two team-based books?

A bit LTTP here, but... hmm...

Copra - it's just a single creator doing everything, it's... hmm.. sort of like the Suicide Squad? "Damaged" characters, inter-personal interaction drives a lot of the story. Superpowers but not SUPERPOWERS. Crazy art style that grows on you assuming you don't mind a "colored pencil" sort of look.

A bit of a stretch... but Black Hammer? It's sort of "what happens when a golden-age superteam stops being a superteam and has to go into retirement?" Lemire is knocking it out of the park here.

Paybacks (series 1 and series 2 from two different publishers) fantastic little series about superhero "repo men" who take back the gadgets and power stuff from heroes / villains who can't make their payments.

Imperium - what if your superteam was a bunch of unrepentant assholes, but were still (maybe) trying to save the world even if they have to do some horrible stuff to make that happen? (although this is better if you've read the other Valiant stuff i.e. Harbinger). For that matter, the 2012 reboot of Harbinger is a pretty decent team book (the Dysart stuff) and should probably be read before Imperium, albeit can get too angsty for it's own good sometimes. And i've also been digging Secret Weapons from Valiant so far (which is sort of "what if you had to make the X-Men out of mutants with the most useless powers possible?")

Every time I would start to consider maybe buying it, I'd go watch some gameplay videos and be disgusted all over again. XD

The other thing that bothers me is how ridiculous Capcom is bound to get with costume DLC.

If you're talking Marvel and DC, they generally don't accept pitches for stories. Either they approach you, meaning you've done a novel, TV show, comic, webcomic, or something elsewhere, or you're introduced to an editor by someone else you know.

Image allows submissions in the form of a proposal, but realize you've got the folks who've worked at Marvel or DC in line ahead of you, so your proposal has to be some amazing shit to get in the door. Here's a full list by publisher.

Wild Storm Week! I have resisted the preview, cannot wait till Wednesday.

Who's the black dude? That's not Deathblow. Or if it is, why is Deathblow wearing a suit?

EDIT: OH IT'S MY BOY JACKSON KING! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

...Not actually jumping back into thread (still not read much for a while, need to clear more other stuff out of the way before I can really dig back into comics), but I just wanted to jump in to say...

I just found out Gurihiru apparently did the character (NPC) designs for Sonic Unleashed. That's BIZARRE to me, as IMO that looks absolutely nothing like their distinctive style. Just... weeeeeeeird.

GWW was exclusive last I heard, but in terms of new blood Thompson is probably the most likely assuming she wants to.

I'm hoping Rosenberg doesn't get put on all books like Lemire was before he got enough and left.

Rosenburg has 2 minis and Warriors and Punisher, that likely wouldn't take a toll on him if he planned out the scripts in advance a la Bendis but yeah, I hope he doesn't burn out like Lemire.

Brisson is doing Fist, Cable and Logan and that already sounds tough.

IIRC Lemire writes far ahead, so he's always working on a ton of stuff. He's currently working on seven books that we know about assuming I didn't miss anything.

War of Jokes and Riddles would make an amazing movie or video game. I would also like to see more Telltale/Life is Strange narrative focused games based on comics. And by comics I mean Star Wars and by Star Wars I mean Aphra. Give me freaking Aphra is Strange already.

What happened to The Wild Storm? It feels like it's been mia for AGES.

So... What Marvel trades are worth getting?

X-Men Gold vol.1 just came out and it's $3 lol, got it. Also got the rest of the Old Man Logan trades, Death of Wolverine, and Thanos Vol.1! Love these Amazon sales but they always come at the worst times, hope it's still up when I get paid Wednesday.

Want to get the Extraprdinary X-Men run and Apocalypse Wars trade but I need to wait.

So is Jane Foster Thor series pretty good? I been having that one in mind on and off, and well the trades are going like $2 each (is there only 5 trades currently that has been released?). I would be tempted for more, but I think I am going to draw the line for just one series this time.

Best Thor run in history.
