Final Fantasy 9 PS4 announced

To quadruple dip or not, that is the question. I will probably get it in the next FF sale since I got the new version on PC after all (and PSN for Vita, OG PS1 version).

Everyone is freaking out about the Excalibur II trophy when it's pretty easy. IX's stats are all gear dependent and you can use double speed. It's a lot easier now than it was seventeen years ago.

The 1,000 jump rope jumps are going to be the biggest pain in the ass.

Yes, but the PS1 version of VII didn't have analog movement so it made sense.

Ah. I see. Started playing the game and just got the the part where you control Vivi. Yeah. It definitely had full range motion on the PSX and now it's just 8 directions. It's not as bad as VII with its weird camera angles where your direction pressed didn't usually line up with the actual direction moved, but it's still pretty bad.

It's inexcusable that SE wouldn't have full analogue support in a PS4 version of a game that had it on PS1.

Looking at the trophy list again, I'm surprised there isn't a trophy to steal a Fairy Flute from the Hilgigars on the Conde Petie Mountain Path. That's damn near Seitengrat levels of luck, without being able to abuse the RNG while you're at it. (At least, that I'm aware of)

Dear lord the theme with the Vivi kids on it is so adorable. Now all SE needs to do to complete the trifecta is release Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS4 and they can have alllllll my money.

IIRC, the game is 20fps on the world map just like on PS1, and i think it was the same on the PC version
Correct. PC version:

'Main menu: 60
Field: 30
Battles: 30
FMV: 15
World Map: 20 ( 19-20 for me, occasionally reaching 21.)'

Another users legit tests:
'main menu 60fps
Full Motion Videos 15fps
exploring world field 20fps
exploring town 30fps
battles 30fps
battle reward screen 60fps
tetramaster game (cards) 60fps'

https://steamcommunity.com/app/377840/discussions/0/357284131785365896/

So it's the same here on PS4 as expected from the port

Even though it's remade in Unity it seems they couldn't remake it entirely from the core

...I'm gonna try it in Double Speed...

On the Steam version, I just used a macro for the jump rope. No good solution for Nero Shuffle exists even on PC, aside from recording the gameplay, pausing, and watching in slow motion for the answer.

I absolutely love all the small extras and minigames packed into IX, but a few of these things have no business as achievements.

Man... the pre-rendered background quality for this release is very disappointing. Damnit, Square. :(

It's a shame the originals weren't properly archived because many of them were rendered in HD and look amazing. The bwcjground quality for the 9 port arguably looks worse because in 7 and 8 things are "consistent" since everything is low-res, and in 9, the backgrounds are more noticeable against the touched-up higher res character models. It also feels like the backgrounds were filtered to try and hold up against higher resolutions (to not nuch success) unlike them not touching anything with the old 7 and 8 PC ports

I was pretty excited about this when it was announced on PC, but man, something about the backgrounds just look like a bad fan-made photoshop. The blurring and sharpening look so artificial and nauseating, especially in contrast to the high-quality models.

Nobody should go for the plat in this one unless you're hardcore.

Getting the Excalibur II is not worth it.

It's a shame because a lot of Final Fantasy platinum trophies are pretty manageable these days, and I think that's intentional. It's a good thing.

Looks like this version removed a ton of extraneous achievements from the Steam version. Like a lot of the the 'Do X 1 time" versions of the "Do X 100 times" are gone, and the "summon this Eidolon" ones are gone too.Few other really grindy ones are gone too. Can't say I'm upset.

Didn't VII have a similar problem? I switched to the D-Pad pretty quickly. I don't remember having any issues with stick movement in IX on PSX though. I guess I'll have to play this one to really understand. I'll probably play through the prologue today.

Yeah, but 7 didn't support analog movement in the original game, while 9 did. I could tell immediately that something was up.

It's actually 15 fps believe it or not.

Edit- maybe I'm wrong. I know the og version on psx was 15 fps on the field.

The jump rope king is going to be one of the rarest trophies on PSN, i have no idea why they made the trophy list like this. Its going to be a 0.1% trophy while most of the Final Fantasy PLATINUMS are in the 3-8% range.

Square needs to patch this. I sent a tweet to Square Enix twitter, if we can get enough people to bug them about it they might change it.

Gah, That in game font, the battle menu.. It just looks a bit soulless and sterile now.

Now FFXII is how it's done properly and with respect to the original game.

Jump Rope King isn't even the worst of the minigame trophies, and not gonna happen, they never touched it on mobile or Steam.

On Steam, the trophy is 3%. Granted, you can use keybind macros on PC to help with that one.

But the Nero Bros shuffle achievement is 1.3%.

Rarest is 10k kills at .5% followed by viewing every single ATE at .6% (100 tetra master wins and having a char inflicted with every single status fall imbeteeen at 1% and 1.2%)

PS4 may have a higher engagement rate so these percentages may turn out to be higher there. The most common Steam achievement is simply playing the game for ~2 hours (Trance for the first time) only has a 65% unlock. Ozma is 3.8% and beating the game is 10.9%

Are the battle load times still atrocious, like the PS1 version?

There's a new option in settings called "Skip Battle Camera". It defaults to Off, but if you turn it on, it will skip the opening camera pan in all random (non-scripted) battles.

Good . This is punishment for all the wrong people complaining that 8 should have been redone instead of 7 . Hopefully permanent bans will be next.

Why the hell is this $21? This is even more expensive than FF7 and that was already overpriced. SE keeps getting more and more ridiculous with the pricing of their legacy games.

Ugh. Input delay makes the jump rope a lot harder too, just like lightning dodging. I used to time it to when Vivi's feet hit the ground, but now I need to time it to be a split second before that and it's way more awkward.

Jump rope is actually pretty easy when you know what to look for, it's just very tedious. The key isn't to follow the exclamation mark, it's to follow Vivi/Eiko's feet as they hit the ground. You can also use the sound they make as they land to help out.

Another thing to remember is that the jump pattern is always set, so you don't have to worry about it randoming you out.

Skipping the second best FF, huh?

At least I have the remaster of the best FF sitting in my PS4 right now.

Seriously, though, I'm glad this was made. FF9 has a lovingly-designed world, some great music and great locations. And the translation is amazing and a harbinger of what we would be getting with future games.

And I just saw the name of the trophy for completing the game. Perfect.

Still you need 1000. One THOUSAND. In A ROW. There is nothing easy about it.

I'd buy two copies if I could...

My favourite game of all time gets a re-release.

Good thing I'm finished with Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Yeah. 200-300 is by far the hardest part. Just lost at 296. Once you transition to the post 300 rhythm it's in the bag really.

Holy shit that trophy list 😥😥😥

I've gotten the others no problem, but this is some next level shit

I played this when it first came out and rebought on the Vita.

Are there any QoL improvements or whatnot that would justify this over the PS1 classic Vita version?

Still debating between buying this for a 3rd time, and return to my version on Vita. But looking at those images posted in this page, WTF did they do to the font? It looks awful :/

Nope, actually! The worst is the Nero Bros shuffle game, where you have to get it right ~10x in a row with them moving at warp speed.

I have that trophy on the Steam version. I didn't find it to be too tough thanks to abusing pause/no pause. Definitely not 1,000 jump rope jumps difficult.
