Final Fantasy 9 PS4 announced

I have played the jump rope mini game on 5 consoles and multiple TVs since the game was released and I STILL cannot beat the damn thing.

Screw the trophies, I'm going to enjoy the game at a leisurely pace and not and worry about being time-gated or irritated by that stuff. That's what killed my last play through.

Completionism usually tends to ruins enjoyment of games - turn off trophy notifications and just play it :)

I have a sealed copy of IX somewhere in my belongings, bought long after I declared this my favorite FF. And I just bought this digital copy...

Digital re-releases devaluing collectors items since forever.

Is that a real problem? I take less issue paying too much for a game in hindsight than never have the option to play an original copy of *insert moderately enjoyable N64/SNES/PS hype game here* on console.

I know you were half joking, but keep in mind SE is still selling new copies of this game.

Already bought it. Shame the theme isn't great but looking forward to getting back into my favourite FF. It's been years as I never play my Vita and my Ps1 copy looks like ass on newer TVs.

First time playing. Only half an hour in.

I'm in love. It's like playing a JRPG for the first time again. There's a truly magical feeling to this game.

Why on earth did I take so long to get round to this.

Ugh I'm so jealous. ;_;

If there was one game I could wipe from my memory and go back to afresh, it'd be this one. Keep us updated on how you're enjoying it!

Me too, but these experiences do crop up. My first time playing Bravely Default was the same, and I've deleted Octopath Traveller demo because I could feel similar vibes and didn't want to spoil anything.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

1000 jump ropes without tripping ?

Are you fucking kidding me ? That's a nearly impossible task with emulators and save states let alone in a 'normal' state.

Never played a Final Fantasy game, would IX be a good place to start? I also own Type 0 HD which I bought on Amazon sale but have not touched yet.

Thats a hard question. Are you used to jrpgs? Do you Care about graphics? Do you like turn based games or action games? Like modern setting or medieval fantasy setting?

IX is a great place to start, as it embodies everything the creator of the series is best known for.

The presentation is also easier to swallow than 7's. But if the graphics are offputting, maybe start with X HD, which is a bit more linear but is basically FF for beginners. Or go oldschool and try FF4.

Type-0 is not representative of the series at all, it's a spinoff. I personally enjoyed it despite its flaws but if you don't know shared elements of the series a lot of its references will fall flat, and it's an ARPG rather than a turn based entry like the majority of mainline FF's.

But 9 will teach you the pantheon of FF summons, what named series weapons are considered "ultimate weapons", what certain series classes/jobs are represented by which characters, names of spells, types of monsters, an appreciation of airships, chocobos, you name it, it's got it.

The story in the game is laughably trash, but it has some well written characters.

Laughably trash should be reserved for the likes of Tales of Symphonia 2 or Kingdom Hearts, it's a more straightforward story maybe than some other games in the series but I certainly wouldn't say it's bad

I dont say how anyone could say this game's story is trash unless they just think every Japanese game in general has a trash story. This is good fantasy stuff that has sadness happiness epic moments and romance wrapped all into one

There's a special place in Hell for the person who thought that 1000 rope jump trophy was a good idea. I'd never attempt it myself, but you know there's some poor sod out there who's going to devote a massive amount of time towards obtaining it, only to end up failing on the 989th jump or something.

I almost considered purchasing but that's just too expensive for me. I'll hold off until it goes down in price.

They release which ps1 classics are in the top 10 sales but the poster isn't even correct. VII and VIII released first and VIII was in the top 10 quite frequently when released and continues to be whenever Final Fantasy games have sales. When IX released it makes sense it would be above VIII since it was released much later and is not evidence of it selling more.

Except the figures I'm talking about were long after all three titles had been released. Even 2 years after the release of IX, VIII had fallen out of the top 10 while both VII and IX were consistently on it. Timing of release no longer accounts for that, particularly in the case of VII.

So after 3 hours of trying last night and only ever managing to get to 330 jump ropes, I tried again today and did this on my first try.

Bless you for having the patience to do that trophy. I gave up on Lulu and would probably do the same for this one.

Your "figures" is a top download list that goes by a monthly format and has included VIII on multiple occasions. There is no actual sales numbers and you're making baseless speculation on the reason IX was chosen first.

IX also had a 6 month gap release after VIII which means we have no way of knowing if VIII's sales were bigger before that or if IX because it was in the top 10 downloads for a couple years more consistently(VIII was still very frequently in the top 10) and that was because it was selling much more. VII is not comparable to both games in any shape or form since it has been consistently in the top 10 for over 6 years something neither VIII nor IX could do. Then there's the fact that VIII sold a hell of a lot more on Steam so determining numbers as a reason is even more complicated.

The most we can say is all three games sold extremely well on the playstation store and that the only game we can for sure say sold the most was VII.

First time playing this game... and I literally could nail the second jump in the jump rope mini game even after multiple tries. The timing completely eludes me for some reason. How screwed am I if I want to ignore this mini game for the rest of my playthrough? Am I going to miss some kind of an ultimate equipment or a unique item?
