Meanwhile at Bethesda:

"This GAF thread. The anger-posting is intensifying to a point where we might not be able to contain it."

"Why contain it? Let it spill over to Youtube and to Twitter. Let the banned members pile up in the threads. In the end, they'll beg us for DOOM on Switch previews."

GTAV ran on 360, I don't think there would be any questions about its performance.

Eh, maybe not. GTAV is a last-gen game.

Fair enough, but in my mind if GTA V was announced for the Switch today, I reckon we'd see a lot of "Can the Switch handle it" type responses, even given the fact that it released initially on the 360 and PS3...

Infact Skyrim is a perfect example, that was released on last gen consoles, but the response was still whether the Switch could handle it.

60fps DOOM would change the conversation about what is possible on Switch.

Don't get me wrong I fully understand why people are thirsty

I'm just saying I've never seen this kind of thirst for a preview before.

I have seriously never seen this much thirst over mere previews.

The framerate seems to be the biggest point people are interested in. My guess is that NBA 2k18 really made this an issue. If the game was 60fps like the other versions, maybe folks wouldn't worry about it, but them making the call to lower the framerate instead of keeping it 60fps has people thinking that Bethesda would go the same route with DOOM on the NS. I hope that isn't the case....

Not only would 60FPS DOOM on Switch change the perception of what the Switch can do, but it has the capability to change the way we see game development in terms of how scalable engines can truly be. There's a lot riding not just on Nintendo, but on Bethesda and ID to provide a 60FPS experience on console.

Sure. I see it already.

Because people are dumb.

I think what you say below is why people are so desperate for information.

60fps DOOM would change the conversation about what is possible on Switch.

As you say it'll make people look at it differently, and perhaps take the console more seriously than some do already.

It's easy for people to look at a multi-platform game and say how much worse it looks than the PS4 and One, but as a portable machine I find the Switch incredible.

It's what I thought the Vita was going to be, proper console games on a portable machine.

Honestly if Doom is 60fps, From bring dark souls and Rockstar eventually bring a GTA game then I'm done.....

Shit, should have asked a friend of mine if it was 30 fps or 60, he played the Switch version today. He was impressed by it. Text was too small in handheld mode though.

I think it's because there's such a particular array of factors that allow for the argument to go both ways, and such love for the title in question that portability with minimal compromise on performance is so damn appealing, that it has stoked expectation to such an unusual degree. It is the singular point that defines the rest of the conversation.

People will know soon once previews hit. People are setting expectation to the moon over frame rate.

Are they? The game is 60fps normally. The expectation should be that it'll be 60fps on the NS as well.

30fps confirmed. I swear NateDrake is in the game industry (forgot what he does now) but if he thinks those of us wanting 60fps are setting expectations too high then....

Haha, I'm in no way confirming 30fps.

You've played it though I assume.

Also (this you should be able to say) are you a developer, or industry insider/gaming journalist etc.

As I said I'm sure you're in the industry, I just can't think now what you do....

Expecting 60 fps is "setting expectation to the moon"?

People are putting the future of Switch on the performance of Doom. Is 60fps going to mean the system gets tons of future ports? Will 30fps doom it to hell? People don't even seem interested in hearing the previews or seeing the game run on Switch. They just care about the frame rate.

I haven't played it, but I know people that have and I've chatted with them about the game.

I do freelance work and have a Youtube channel where I post gameplay footage.

its too late for us to go back now, lines have been drawn and potatoes are baked.
