my friend took time out from simultaneously launching a AAA game and having a baby to make sure that everyone was set straight here
You asked at 5:02pm and got a response at 5:03pm. This is enough time to PM that person to say, "hey say this as your answer." You're going to great lengths to support a terrible position.

Give me a single UK tv or radio ad that called it SNEZ and we can at least agree that NoE is at fault. Otherwise I'm just going to assume you tea drinkers messed up and refuse to admit fault.

You guys didn't even like the SNES.

They didn't like it and this is how they are getting revenge on Nintendo and the rest of us - complete butchering of the word.

Do you pronounce it Peeetaaah or Pee Eee Tee Aay?

I've been told it's pronounced like Pet-ah but I honestly don't know, I'm not sure I've ever heard it spoken aloud and I always mangle it on purpose when I say it because fuck them

Is there a consensus or official statement for how PETA is meant to be said?

I've always called it "Ess-Enn-Eee-Ess" (or just Super Nintendo), since that's what it was abbreviated to. I mean, people don't actually call the GBA a "Gah-Bah-Ahh", do they?

Everyone, don't worry, I've figured it out.

Us Brits say Snez because of Violet Berlin. And you'll never see an apology for that.

See above. Violet set the record for a nation.

Ess n e ess people are weirdos

Wait, it took till this post for me to truly figure this thread out.

So, two types of people.

1. Say 'es n e es' out loud.
2. Say 'snes'

SNES is clearly the right answer. Who the hell has time for four syllables?

But why spell it sness? That's dumb too.

The ads typically referred to it by the full "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" name. It was referred to as a "Snes" by everyone else (including TV media). It makes sense that it would be, because it can be, much like other acronyms. That's basically how language works. Nobody reads the PSP as a word however, because it doesn't work, much like most other initializations.

Nope, they sure don't do that to a GBA. Maybe the fourth letter was just too much for the Brits to work out?

Typical Europeans thinking they can just take a word and slap some awful pronunciation on it without any rhyme or reason

Correct: Super Nintendo
Acceptable: S.N.E.S, Super N.E.S.
Quantifiably Incorrect: Snehsssssss
Obtusely Pigheadedly Wrong: Snezz what the hell there is no Z you Brits. You have no excuse here.

Typical American having the audacity act as though English people are "taking" the English language from them.

We localized the SNES not you, you just took our localized name and made some ugly bad poomouth shortcut for it! Lazy! What do you have to do that's so important that you have to save time making that awful sound instead of saying it properly? The kettle will whistle when it's ready you don't have to watch it!
