Gaf we need to talk about Gotham, the most visually interesting superhero show

Legion does have a great style, the trouble is watching it and wondering what the heck is going on before turning it off in frustration.

Legion is an excercise in postmodern film making where the idea of disjointed time, space, and location are the main ideas highlighted and not so much the characters development(although there is clearly development) or motivation. We also observe these ideas in other works such as Twin Peaks, Rick & Morty and Lost.

Did I sell it?

If this show ends with Bruce putting on the Batsuit but them never actually showing him wearing the Batsuit in a full-on shot (like the bullshit that Smallville did), I will scream.

This gimp suit that he is wearing in the previews already makes me scream

That being said, Gotham has this energy and nihilistic bent to it that makes me wonder why people haven't moved out of the city in fear yet. I personally think it's solid entertainment, but there aren't many variations in the story beyond "Gordon is a badass cop who's living on the edge", "Bruce and Alfred doing some stuff", and "look at how many Batman references we can throw in". I mean, Gotham's a fun show, but it sticks to being a pastiche of the Batman Returns aesthetic and that gets boring.

It had a subplot lifted from slash fanfics.

The sky is the limit for gotham writers

Gotham is hammy as fuck and I love it. I got quite a ways behind though, and have to skip up.

The first season is just boring, but it really takes off after that.

I wish I had time in my life to devote to something as hilariously bad and corny looking as Gotham. Once you get to be older, you always end up telling yourself "I should probably watch something that's legitimately good instead."

Bruce Wayne's S&M fetish bodysuit suit is killing me. Is that a leftover from the first season of American Horror Story?

Last season technically had
18.jpg

So they are trying to progress they just did it poorly.
Gotham actually feels like the Batsuit will be featured unlike Smallville.

I still think an episode in the future flashing back to the current plot would be amazing. Everyone but Bruce and Selina keep the same actors in the future scenes.

This show is dumb. Like, really fuckin' dumb. Can't call it good either. Thing is, I still watch it for the pure absurdity of... everything that ever happens in the show. It's fun to see how stupid and crazy it gets.

Anyway, I think the hero and villain costumes are mostly pretty bad except for relatively simple stuff like Riddler's suit and the proto-Joker tailcoat (edit: actually Scarecrow looks good). The show's visual strengths lie in the production design, cinematography and non-hero/villain wardrobe. It's often a real joy to look at, which is a very nice change for a network superhero show.

Yeah, fuck all of that, and Batboy twice.
Somebody dialed 555 this morning
Bruce's actor is almost 17 if you can believe that. He's also now taller than most of the adult actors.

Personally, I'm okay with Bruce learning how to be a vigilante at 16-17.

In Batman Beyond, Terry McGinnis became Batman at 16-years-old. Robin and Batgirl were teens when they first started fighting crime.

He still got to get trained by Richard Dragon

The show's aesthetic is so interesting in addition to its actual quality.
Particularly the unspecific time period.

My hope before they brought Ra's and Sensei in were for Shiva(slightly older than Bruce) to train with him some and try to lure him into the League.

Still hope she eventually happens.

I remember making a lttp thread and everyone hated on gotham. Glad to have some lovers here.

Yeah, the aesthetics of Gotham are heads and shoulders above other superhero shows and even movies. It has something that other DC shows and movies cant replicate in terms of grittiness and pure aestheticia, and its just more interesting to watch then Marvel films which just have bland and safe cinematography.

Garbage show. I hate it. I hate everything about it. Could have been so much more if they stuck to Gordon and the crimes surrounding Gotham.

Instead it was

Here's baby Bruce!
Here's baby Ivy!
Here's baby Selina Kyle!
Here's baby Joker!

fuck off.
This. Holy fuck, this show is despicably pedantic.

I think I will just stick to catching the neat gifs so I get the cool imagery without wading through the terrible plot.
That's the only way.

Legion is definitely far more stylish but I gotta admit, those ridiculous Gotham gifs are making me curious to watch how ridiculous it truly is.

Proto-Venom(Viper) was in the first half of S1.

Freaking Hush and Clayface have had appearances as well.

Oh I vaguely remember that. As well as Tommy Elliot's cameo. But so much of the show's twisting of Batman lore assaulted my brain that I must've pushed it out of my memory.

People mentioning how they expected this to be Gotham Central...I feel you.

Funny thing is I recently played the Batman Telltale games and found them awesome. They kinda offer a template for what a good serialized Batman live action TV show COULD be, while still offering up enough lore twists to make things unique.

I felt this way originally but honestly it never got to where changes were insulting to me.

Dent and Montoya were pretty close but quickly written out.

Bette Kane(original "Bat-Girl") was cast early in S1 as a 30 year old.... that was nearly my early breaking point before the show locked me in.
Thankfully they cut her scenes before release.

So wait did the joker stretch the skin on his face, except for a arts around his eyes or did he stitch another person's face onto his?

Jerome had a cult of followers, they tried to bring him back to life but the temporary leader thought it failed so instead cut off Jerome's face and tried to become full time leader by wearing it, then Jerome actually woke from the revive attempt and took back his face, stapling or stitching it on. I forget which.

The gif is the skin being dislodged as it was still freshly reapplied and he took punches to the face.

I know a lot of people see or hear stuff about Gotham and think, "man that seems stupid"
Personally I think thats why it works so well, they definitely find a good balance and completely knows when it is being "stupid" some aspects more than others but it doesn't really go out of Burton territory.

My view of this series.

Gotham is like high quality addicting trash, the plot and dialogue especially at the start of season one can be bad but as the show goes on it embraces the silliness the ridiculous comic book roots and just has fun with it, its probably the best representation of Gotham on TV I have ever seen. Its not going to have a deep mind fuck of a story with plot twists or surprises that rival Game Of Thrones but its definitely a fun show to watch if your comic book fan and don't take it all too seriously.

This show is BEAUTIFULLY shot and has some amazing art direction.

Unfortunately, I just don't enjoy their approach to Bruce/Batman and the Gotham villains. In fact, I kind of hate it. The Penguin was interesting in season 1, I enjoyed the Nigma stuff for the most part, but by season 3 is was just sooo off the wall in a way that I didn't enjoy.

I actually enjoyed season 1 and season 2 but man did the show get crazy in a bad way.

Chiklis is really trying to give the impression that his character is evil. Just look at that happy smile. Crazy!

Bruh I just saw they making Bruce proto Bats.............

They said theyd NEVER do that........

JUMPED the SHARK

Never trust Gotham to do anything right, they say.

I mean...that's the point for both of those shows; it was before they became heroes...if they continued after they put on their official costume then it probably would've been called Superman/Batman

If Gotham does indeed go so far to have a series finale I fully expect Gotham to end just like you mentioned.

Edit: misread your post I thought you wanted it to continue after they put on their official costume, still expect it to end like you mentioned though!

I'm glad we have people continually discovering how incredible and absurd Gotham has become.

Y'all are acting all confused over the fact that we have all of these not-villains running around but understand: this is just a straight up Batman show where everyone is 20 years younger. Jonathan Crane is straight up Scarecrow now, Nygma is Riddler, Cobblepot is Penguin, Selina is Catwoman. It's just Batman now.

Yeah, I'm okay with that. Just gimme at least one shot with the kid in the Batsuit. That's all I need. If they do that, I might go back and watch all the seasons I'm behind on, lol.

Gotham is trying too hard compared to Legion?

Give me a break. I struggle to think of a show I've watched in recent years that screams trying too hard more than Legion. In a just world it and Fargo season three would force Noah Hawley into retirement, because he's clearly lost it.

Lol. How you figure? It kept the same pace throughout the season.

Your response to me implies you have never seen gothan season 1.

I remember thinking that Gotham was going to be like Gotham Central. I was so wrong.

Me too. Me too.
