Guys, question about transitioning to Act II

Do all the recruitable party members go? Even the ones outside your current party?

Yes, but you will only have a very short time to choose your final party. Whatever origin characters you choose on the initial time on the boat will be your permanent crew(though you can still make custom ones in the future)

There is a point of no return at the beginning of act II where you can't change characters anymore. The game will tell you about it. You can respect anyone at that point anyway so just pick those you like the most.

Where can you find a damn bedroll after missing the one at the very start of the game?

I'm just coming up on Driftwood now.

There are a lot around, just check the houses or the country. I think even a merchant sells one.

About to leave Reapers Isle at L17 3/4 or so but I have some unanswered quests/questions. (spoilers ahead)

- A Man and his Dog - Got to the point where you meet the dog at the graveyeard and he says the memorial near the centre smells like the bad fish. Quest ends/stuck there.
- The Three Altars - Prayed at all 3 still no resolution.
- The Reluctant servants - Killed Ryker, told the gravekeeper, she's happy but the quest is still open.
- Speaking in forked Tongues - Has something to do with the chest in the fire but I think I did it out of order as I'd already picked the chest before I met the Salamander.
- Treated like cattle - Made a second potion, the 2nd cow takes it and nothing, no transformation, no quest over. Bug?
- The Law of the Order - I think I've completely broken this quest as I never found the evidence that the fishery was involved in weapon smuggling.
- Near the southwest (Near the Djinn) are 3 buttons around a caravan where some possessed dwarfs attack. Stood on all 3 and nothing, is there another button somewhere?
- Near there is a dwarf in a cave who wouldn't come out. Do I need a dwarf in the party or the shapshifter helm to get him to move?

Same for me except for the
chest in fire
(it seems like I did it in the correct order),
Law of the Order (I think I completed it by giving some incriminating letter to Johan, not sure if that is the correct path)
and the
dwarf in the cave (don't remember seeing him)
.

Also
Finder's Fee bugged out for me after delivering the head to the paladins. Did you complete it?
and
Love has a Price
has no resolution for me because my MC is the Red Prince.

I mean, surely the rewards are trash, but not getting the exp and the closure sucks. IMO the bugged journal and quests is what keeping this game from being the best I've ever played (so far), and I say it as someone that's in love with Baldur's Gate 2.

Started over after my 10 hour playthrough went a bit south on the island. I am considering that 10 hours a learning period for me as I chose to play on classic and I was burning through res scrolls like candy. This game truly is a masterpiece, even starting over I wasn't upset as my experience has been completely different. Things are resolving differently based on party member choices (prince, lohse, ifan this time fane, lohse, sebille last time) and I am much much much better off, more gold, more quests found, better combat understanding etc etc.

Reading parts of this thread though now you all have me nervous about not taking Fane this run.. is he really that crucial? I just don't know if I could see dropping any of the ones I have chosen as they have skills set up that compliment my battle strategy so very well. Ifan is probably the only one I would consider dropping but he has the excellent pet pal talent!

ACT 2 spoilers

So i just randomly stumbled upon stovehaven and Ryker. He's in his beasement awaiting my return with a tablet. I wandered upstairs, despite warning, and barely managed to kill a huge ass spider plus spiderlings. uh...Was i supposed to kill that? I can't find any info on it online. Is Ryker gonna hate me now? His Servants don't seem to mind.

You can spec him how you want. He can have pet pal if you want him to, just get him and then on lv up pick it.

You get to respec your entire party and their skills at the start of act 2, you can make Fane into whatever you want, same with anyone else. So whatever character you'd swap him with you can simply make him have their same skill setup and abilities if it goes well with your group.

If you have petpal, it could be the start of an hilarious/dark questline.

i gotta say i really didn't like this game until i started using a controller, something about panning the camera with the middle mouse button i didn't like

question:

i'm playing explorer, is there anything wrong with setting my team like this:

tank
physical dps
magic dps
healer

I'd argue best mobility spell is the wings of polymorph. It's fantastic as a rogue as I can combine it with other mobility spells and just jump around the level backstabbing people.

Imo wings is one of the worst mobility skill. It's just one that requires investment in a good "work with everything" skill, but it's pretty bad. It costs 2AP to use on the turn you initially use it(the most important turn) and the passive effect of floating is terrible(because it only works when running around, if it was like the D:OS1 Levitate, it'd be a lot better).

The other 3 similar ones(long distance movement) are generally better. Tactical Retreat is the best, it's 1AP and cast Haste on you for 1 turn, meaning it gives you 1AP back the turn after. Phoenix Dive is also 1AP and does fire around you, which is usually good but can be a bit crappy sometimes, still it's 1AP. Cloak and Dagger is probably the worst of the 3 but it's still 1AP, the fact it doesn't break stealth isn't great in combat, but it's pretty useful for pre combat shenanigans.

Now wings lasts for 3turns so it's pretty nice, but I prefer having 2memory slots on 2 of the 1AP jumps, than have wings, because moving for 1AP is just a lot more efficient. You don't need to move THAT often, and with The Pawn you can move around a bit anyway. The movement skills will usually cool down by the time I need them again. And obviously paying only 1AP versys paying 2AP is a huge difference with how little AP you get to play with.

I also use Blitz/Battering Ram on my warrior for their damage/utility, and Backlash on my Rogue for damage/utility(only 1AP move+pretty high damage, although the range is garbage), and they both have The Pawn for small adjustments.

Can someone explain Netherswap? Is it bugged or is the text wrong? It says "Switch two characters position, one of the characters CAN be you". And yet every time I try to swap my caster with another PC, it gives me some error message. Am I just getting unlucky with the finicky terrain or am I not understanding this?

It uses weird collision detection, but basically you can't Netherswap if you're hitting a target that's on the "edge" of anything I think. So quite often it doesn't work the way you want it to work. It's nice when it works though.

On Explorer you should be fine with most combinations ; nothing wrong with your team. I have no tank in my team on Classic (rogue dps/hydrosophist healer/mage dps/ranger invoker) and I'm doing fine.

Thought it would be cool to play some relaxed on the couch on the TV with the gamepad, but I feel hamstrung with these controls. Not for combat, but for other things... like with a mouse, I can mouse over icons on the minimap and see what they are from far away. And I can actually click directly on items I want rather than having to line my body up with them first. That's too bad. :(

Just had a hilarious experience. My buddy and I made it to
Stonegarden
and went into a basement area where we ran into a
Rat named Rory who ate whatever we put on the floor for him.
Further in we ran into
Betty the Tortoise who was in love with Rory and so I offered to intervene.
But when we went back we discovered that
my buddy had been dropping poisoned food because he's an undead and Rory had died while we were offering to help Betty resolve her love problems.
It was a ridiculous emergent moment that we laughed at for a good couple of minutes. This game is great.

Hold the search button the controller (X or A, I forget) and it will expand a search radius all around you to mass pickup items (including containers).

Here I was all happy going through Act I with my new melee guy (Dwarf was still a clean sheet, and made him a pure Dual-wielding warrior)

Still level 4, reach the fight of level 6 ambush of
Voidwoken Dweller

Completely destroyed. Wow
Am I supposed to kill it?

That fight is tough as hell when you're still kinda low level.
It's not mandatory IIRC but I don't think you can do much else with it beyond outright fighting it.

I went through a similar curve and my experience after restarting a few times is that the early game is all about the character builds and knowing where to put your points. At Classic difficulty and above, Act 1 is really unforgiving if you dick around with your scarce points too much. It's not a game that you can go in blind, it requires a lot of metagame knowledge which skills are available from which vendor at which point and how abilities synergize... that's not a criticism really, it's where a lot of depth and replayability comes from.

Many people have been playing around with the Early Access and don't realize how much knowledge they've internalized so it feels straightforward and easy to them, whereas complete beginners get easily lost in the weeds.

Stick with it and don't be afraid to back up to early saves or even restart in Act 1. There's a tipping point where your experience begins to turn battles that seemed impossible in earlier attempts.

Early Access AI was much more difficult. so if you made it to the end of Act 1 that way classic is by it's nature is much easier

In OS1, you just hold the interact button down and you get a list of interactables near you.

I'm missing a Silver Bar for Bloodmoon Island, are there 3 in the island or do I have to find one somewhere else?

Guess who spent the last 20 hours wondering why managing inventory capacity was such a chore only to discover a 50lb box hidden amidst all my loot.

Yet another Tarquin Act 2 question- does he move after giving you the quest? He's not at the gates of the graveyard anymore.

I can't even get him to move off the boat to give the quest.

His whole quest seems a bit buggy. Did you check the boat? Sometimes he goes back there, I've read.

Killing
Reimond
in act 2 leads to some weird things in act 4.
I found his spirit in the barracks dungeon acting as if I just killed him.

This last act needs some polish.

I re rolled a new class. From rogue to Inquisitor. How do you build this class? I am using strength and int with warfare and necromancer. How do you gear for this class? Int gear or strength compared to rogue this class is confusing. But I like the idea of a vampire Melee dps. Want to make it work.

I won the pit battle but that stupid apprentice died because he ran away and burned to death, dumb ai
am I screwed or does it not matter I won't get the source point from his source master?

Started act 2, and the guards of a whole town tries to kill me and succeeds because
of a magister recognizing goddamn Ifan
. This game is ridiculously hard. Am I supposed to be going there at level 8?

Hot damn, this game has a very intricate control scheme for using controllers. Awesome. I feel I might even prefer it over the M/KB setup once I get the hang of it.

Some menu-related tasks just fly on a controller while they are a bit of a slog with M/KB.

Two options: go straight str or straight int. If you go strength you'll basically be a knight with some point's in necro, I recommend up to 4 or 5 straight away for the self heals, with utility necro spells as backup.

If you go int you'll use a staff, but keep a few points in strength so you can wear a mix of mage and warrior gear. Your spells will be actually useful + you can still mix it up in melee. I believe warfare skills will still scale off your int score if you have a staff.

My main was a str Inq and she was pretty tough, especially with a dip in hydro and geo later on for buff spells. Gear dependent though: get new weapons as often as possible.

Is there anything I can do when I walk into a fight but not all of my party members engage? How do I get them to join the fight?

Thx bro I think I will go for the str build.

Double Click on the portrait of the people not fighting, so you gain control over them. Lead them to the fight.
