I have a 1-hander cleric (Beast) and he's the most important member of my party.

I put a mace instead of a wand for him, so he's still very useful in combat to help with knockdown and such.
I'm going 1-hander, hydro, warfare and having a pretty rough time. So far her role is mostly wading through elemental hazards with magic armor and trying to get ppl into knockdown.

What's the level of your party right now?

If she's going warfare, she should've got Phoenix Dive, right? Also, I usually focus my cleric on supporting the party instead of marching forward to deal damage. With the long range of Battering Ram, Battle Stomp, Bouncing Shield, and Blitz Attack, my cleric can help my tank anytime he needs it without having to move that much. Teleporting enemies to your melee fighters' range (including the cleric) would also help.

One of the things I've come to love about the game is the whole "cheerfuldark" vibe of it all (as RockPaperShotgun puts it). I've spent a few minutes joyfully eating the warm carcasses of fallen magisters on a battleground, reading their memories as I go along, and it feels oddly normal at this point. I've rarely felt so seamlessly immersed in such a weird universe before ; you end up playing by the world's quirky, grim rules in no time and it's absolutely great.

Kinda wish I didn't start a Tactician run haven't had too much trouble until the first boss in Act 1 and man its kicking my ass, rather then giving them spells and abilities that are available at higher levels it just makes them health sponges and becomes a slog if your not going in with prior knowledge and a cookie cutter build.

Got the collector's edition today, feels so goooooooood!

Dam I want that artbook.

If you dig the vibe I super recommend Divinity: Dragon Commander, which is a pretty barebones RTS/visual novel hybrid thing that is essentially Dr. Strangelove set in the Divinity universe. It's hilarious, charming, and forces you to negotiate between a bunch of fantasy political positions. Easily my favorite thing in the series besides Original Sin.

Dragon Commander is freaking amazing and I've been considering a replay of it this year since I just built a new PC.

It's a fun game with some very lite-RTS like Xander said, but what makes the game is the poltics of the world. The characters are well designed to the point where it's enjoyable interacting with them and making decisions and reaping those decisions for good or bad.

Just beat Alexander. Rangers are so broken. Tactical retreat to high ground. I’m getting 65% damage bonus. Can kill most none boss enemies in one turn. As long as my main keeps aggro everything is golden. Haven’t lost a fight since level 2.

Lone wolf is far more fun than a party of 4.

Item balance is so off it's not even funny. How is it acceptable to get 50%+ increase in armor/damage from 1 level?
All things considered, this is the only con I have against the game so far but it's extremely noticeable and has a ton of ramifications into the other systems (combat, attribute scaling, economy, etc). It needs to be addressed and rebalanced.

hmm i have to be benefit from a glitch, just accidently teleported to shriekers and
auto revived 8 times in a row getting a new Idol every time without using up the ones i have

I read something that if you have a charged idol in a backpack it won't get used up; instead you get handed a non-charged one in your regular inventory while keeping the charged one in your backpack.

Well, Wayfarer specced into perception (with a crossbow) was the most broken class in D:OS, nice to see that this time around rangers are good xD

I was struggling with it too until I altered my approach.
I teleported Malady up into the crow's nest and found it to be much easier. She was getting ripped to shreds on the ground

That's exactly how I dealt with it, made it a bit of a joke when you threw in oil and crippling too!

Its possibly Lone Wolf just giving me the early game advantage. The only thing that seems to have gotten ruined is rogues :D

This game on classic is quite a fair bit more difficult than DOS1 on hard mode. I barely had my companions die in battle in DOS1 and now I am burning through resurrection scrolls and that's not counting the times I got completely obliterated and had to reload. This is still the beginning so I guess it can change. Having so much fun though. And I like the addition of physical and magical armor. It really adds an additional layer on the combat.

This year is fucking wack people. I still can't believe how many good games we have this year.

I seem to have completely cheesed the Act 1 Boss.
Staying near the gate and then fleeing from combat when the Drillworm comes causes all the Seekers to join, man its a funny clusterfuck of like 20 people taking turns.

Rangers become even stronger later in the game. You got the multiplicative bonuses with Warfare, Huntsman high ground, and crit. They scale exceptionally well.

So why class like Ranger (Huntsman?) scales so insane amounts off all of stats and weapon stats while basically all other scale like pure garbage? Even Rogue has nowhere near same levels of scaling and it's one better scaling classes.

Magical classes outside of summons of Summoner scale worst, garbage at bottom of garbage heap.

Basically why Ranger scales so insanely better than anything else in the game making it obviously broken and OP class? Should it be nerfed or should other classes be buffed to its level of scaling?

It's mostly just a case of having more scaling multipliers. All of the class "skill trees" (Warfare etc) are multiplicative with your damage whereas the weapon "skill trees" (Ranged, single handed, etc) are additive with your attribute damage. One point in strength and one point in single-handed or two-handed gives the same damage. Warfare is multiplicative so it's much better. Since polymorph gives attribute points its also worse than every other class skill tree.

Ranged attackers has access to three multiplicative skill trees in Warfare, Huntsman and Scoundrel, even if Warfare and Huntsman are probably better, especially Warfare. Every other class has access to less multipliers. Perhaps a mage could come close with the talent that allows spells to crit, their element of choice, scoundrel and Huntsman, but they have cooldowns with their spells anyway. Maybe dual wield wander can also get the same damage if they focus a single element with both wands and get the corresponding elemental class skill tree (it increases the damage from wands too, right?), and they can also get huntsman and scoundrel and crit.

Melee attackers have access to one less multiplier in that they can't get the "attack from high ground" multiplier, and thus they can't really scale as well.

I think changing weapon skill trees to multiplicative instead of additive along with changing Warfare to melee physical damage instead of general physical damage would buff everyone else to the Rangers levels. Maybe they would need to nerf damage overall if the game becomes too easy with those changes though. If they just want to nerf Rangers and keep everything else the same they just need to change Warfare to melee physical damage.

This is all from what I understand, and if I get something wrong then please correct me.
As ranger should points to to huntsmen or ranged weapons first? Is there a skill level max?
Warfare and Huntsman, you can skip Ranged weapons or only get it later when you reach the max points which is 10 if you are non-Lone wolf or 20 if you are Lone Wolf.

Rangers need to be nerfed, yes. The other classes are starting to catch up lately at level 16-17 with decent gears. Though despite that, my ranger is still doing like 2-3x of damage compared to the rest.

Wiki says level 10 is max, but I can go beyond 10 with gear bonuses.

I finally got off the damned island. That final fight was epic. Given that I needed 24 hours, and I couldn't see all I wanted due to bad choices and some bugs with a few quests, this game is going to last me a long time, not to mention the posibilities when replaying it.

Also, I don't see the
god damm cat in the ship that I tried to keep alive all this time by keeping the Red Prince alone in the beach.
What are you supposed to do with him?

Edit: I was also going to say, what incredible playing ground Fort Joy came to be. Much better in my opinion than act 1 of OS1.

You get the cat as a summon if you take it with you when you escape Fort Joy.

Seems like my Red Prince pissed off Sebille one time too many and she doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. Well fuck you too! Welcome back, Fane.

The final fight of Act 1
was actually pretty easy for me. I managed to teleport Gheist out of the ruins without alerting the other enemies. Then I did the same with Alexandar which triggered everyone hostile. Teleported him in the middle of my party, got some attacks of opportunity and then it was easy taking him down.

Long post that could be summed as "Rangers scale off like Gods from like 2 stats where other classes need 3-4 stats, very specific talents that make them weak glass against most of things and some insane gear RNG to get even into same neighborhood with numbers as Ranger"

If that isn't balance issue I don't know what is. Right played rogue or wizard should be able to compete with right played ranger in damage, but currently as things are there is no way. Rangers pull 2-3x larger numbers with ease.

Spell casters especially are garbage, even with spell crit talent. Spell selection also is weirdly narrow / element when compared to huge spell selection of Ranger.

So they catch up, but not even close. Not really. That is my experience too from comparing my comp numbers to Dansgamings ranger. Decent to well geared... well anything doesn't come even near numbers that right played Ranger with decent gear pulls off consistently.

It's just absurd imbalance.

Actually regret not taking a Huntsman. Bows seem to fucking shred physical armour at such a distance.

I'm in late Act 2 and seriously considering wasting tens of thousands of gold in order to respec wizard into ranger.

What's the most 'fun' main class to play as in this. Meaning something not overly powerful initially but becomes rewarding much later in the game. How does Sword and Board work compared to DOS 1?

I'm talking Tactician mode.

I think sword and board is much better than in DOS 1. I found it underwhelming in that game, but here you get the Shield Bounce skill which scales off your shield's physical armor so you get to deal some damage and still be a tanky guy. Add some polymorph or other skill and you get tons of cc.

I wouldn't say garbage, considering my primary summoner/secondary pyro without spell crit deals over 10k damage on a troll (which is weak to fire, so the damage is inflated) with a meteor shower at level 18, but that's still 3 source points so he won't do it twice in a fight or maybe not even in every fight. Rangers won't deal that much damage in a burst, but they are so much more useful in general. Especially since they can get the elemental arrows which convert the physical damage to elemental while keeping all of their scaling. I also read something about knockdown arrows double-dipping on Warfare scaling for more absurd damage, but I haven't tried that out yet.

I think my mage is useful but my Rogue doesn't really have a reason to exist in the party, a second Ranger would be much better.

2h warfare/strength does stupid amounts of damage late game too. Magic isn't as good but it's still strong and more than viable for Tactician.

Abilities like Meteor Shower, Epidemic of Fire, Laser Ray, Hail Storm, Deep Freeze all do loads of AOE damage.

I dont think tanking is a lot of fun in this game. Only 1 taunt and its useless against armored enemies. I feel a 2h warrior with more strenght might be more useful.

AOE damage is like the only saving grace of magic skill. Though in most cases I couldn't really use them because my melee fighters are sitting there in the middle with the rest of the enemies. Therefore, I usually throw everything as soon as I can before every enemies are surrounding my melees.

I have a tank (two, actually) but I never use provoke. Just put them up front and normally the enemies will target them. Even though they're not, they'll have to pass through my melee fighters and got caught in their Attack of Opportunity. It's always satisfying to see when enemies running through my tank to approach my ranged units but got owned instead.

Ranger is far more sustained damage over time when compared to bursty nature of e.g. pyro wizard as you have smaller selection of spells with decently high CD's across the board.

I'm not riding struggle bus with my Fighter, Rogue, Summoner/Air, Pyro/Hydro (ye ye, weird combos on casters :b ) comp. Still I have that constant feel that I need move Hydro to Summoner, drop Air fully and turn 4th into pure Ranger for optimal DPS comp. Maybe even cut Rogue and turn that to Ranger too for proper min max.

Fucking Gjallarhorn all over again, either you got it or you know you need to get it in order to compete. Imbalances blow.

There's a warfare source skill called Overpower that removes all armor from a target enemy if the enemy has less armor than the skill user. This skill is exceptionally good with a shield user since they have more armor.
