What's your dream localisation?

For many gamers the most difficult part of the hobby is that feeling of not knowing if your favorite series is in limbo, dead or if there will ever be another game announced. I'd say the potentially worse scenario, is to have that game out there, fully released yet only playable in a foreign language. So GAF, what's the one game pains you the most to have never been localized into your region, and why?

For me, I'd love to see Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, Mizzurna Falls or the Serial Experiments Lain game. But if I was forced to pick one title, it would be a fully localized Yakuza/Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin!

Yakuza is pretty much the defining franchise for me, yet this title which many suggest is one of the best in the whole series, will likely never receive an official English localisation. (I know the KHH subs guide is supposed to be pretty good, but it's just not the same as a experiencing the great localisations that the recent titles have received. I will get around to forcing my way through it at some point.)

The various anime licensed and styled titles besides DBZ and Naruto (LWA, JoJo, SAO, Jump vs, AoT, BlazBlue, UNIB).

With English Audio.

Fire Emblem 3 through 6 (own all of these in Japanese but...)
Dragon Quest X through XI (latter is coming!)
SMT 1-2 (Just bought fan translated 2 but still)
Great Ace Attorney 1-2 (dual pack, Switch/3DS/Mobile!)

Etc.

Thankfully the dream is FINALLY going to come true!!!

Really excited to check this out next year. Honestly, can't believe it's actually happening.

Ryū ga Gotoku Ishi.... nevermind.

For real though, it's like, what the fuck Sega. I really want this.

I would trade quite a lot to live in the universe where Kenzan, Ishin, and the two Black Panther games got localized over here.

Edit: oh yea, I forgot about the Great Ace Attorney games, it's actually criminal that they haven't localized those.

You have hit the nail on the head OP. Especially since SEGA acquired Atlus and have gotten their help bringing the latest Yakuza games to the West, there is no excuse anymore. Localize Yakuza Ishin! I bought the import already, and I will gladly buy it again in a language that I understand. Let me play one of the best game series ever as a freakin samurai.

The worst was when some unknowing PR guy put footage of the game into Sony's E3 2017 opening reel. How could you do something so cruel! I had zero hopes of seeing this game stateside, only to have them fantastically raised and then dashed in the span of two hours, lol.

Since The Silver Case was localized, next up for me is Capcom's Dreamcast exclusive JRPG El Dorado Gate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_Gate said:
El Dorado Gate (エルドラドゲートシリーズ) is a series of Japan-exclusive role-playing video games for the Sega Dreamcast. Its seven volumes were released on a bi-monthly basis in Japan from October 10, 2000 through October 10, 2001.[1]

The story involves twelve characters who must overcome personal quests on their way to finding the other eleven, aided by a mysterious man named Bantross. Relying heavily on elemental weapons, equipment, and magic spells, the game features many common RPG elements such as dungeon-exploring, weapon-upgrading, and turn-based battles. After surmounting their personal battles the twelve heroes first face the terrible Bals, Dios' most powerful servant and then descend into the underworld to face Dios and resurrect Razin.

Its the RPG 10 year old me would have killed for. You could play 7 different storys focusing on characters from different eras of time.

They even had a song from the game as dlc for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy:curtain call, rubbing further salt that they will never localize it.

all Shin Megami Tensei related titles.

This, but out of those, the most important ones are of course the mainline games we never got (SMT I and II), as well as some other spinoff games:

Shin Megami Tensei if...

SMT if... was actually the game that started the Persona series. It was set in a high school and revolved around high school students. It still had the same demon mechanics of SMT1, but wasn't as much about the apocalypse as the first game was. This idea of the high school settings was of course carried on to Megami Ibunroku Persona.

latest

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner

This was for Saturn, not to be confused with Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzonoha vs King Abaddon (that confusion happens quite often, as people call Raidou 1 just "Devil Summoner"). It was also re-released on PSP. There was a rumor that the PSP version was intended to be localized, but was not due to some weird rule with Sony of it not adding enough new content. No one really knows if that was actually true. This game came before Soul Hackers, which we actually did get localized on the 3DS.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment PSP version

For some bizarre reason, the localization of P2 Eternal Punishment PSP version was cancelled. Instead they re-released the PS1 version (which was localized, but not as well as IS on PSP) and put out a guide of what names should be different names. I would love to have seen this actual PSP version come to the US.

Other than those, and SMT I and II, we have gotten most of the SMT series in the US now in one form or another. However I would like to see better treatment of the series in the west. With the release of Strange Journey Redux on the horizon, it is going to have this huge special edition in Japan with many soundtrack CDs. I hope that comes to the west, but I seriously doubt it, seeing how this thing fared...

I actually worked in a game store that got one of those, and it sat on the shelf for months, and was eventually moved to the top shelf next to the Xbox 360 HD-DVD players...

Well besides the obvious choices of Yakuza Kenzan and Yakuza Ishin these are the ones that come first in my mind:

Valkyria Chronicles 3

Earth Seeker

Hungry Ghosts

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

And all the Boku no Natsuyasumi series...

I'm sure there are lots more though...

While I know saying one of the MegaTen games is obvious (and I do want them all localized), I think my dream localization (and port) would be

YSOC3q9.jpg

It's secretly one of Square's best SNES games, and yet it's languishing as an unlocalized spinoff to a franchise that has already been left in Japan more times than not.

Sakura Wars 1-4. That series was huge in Japan, and it's from some of the best SEGA devs of the day who then went on to - in part - create Skies of Arcadia and Valkyria Chronicles.

Princess Crown, could be too late for that now though.

It's never too late for localizations, we got two out of the three Trails in the Sky games 10 years after their release. We're about to get one of freaking Zwei II.

Phantasy Star Online 2. I was obsessed with PSO1 on original Xbox and it pains me to know it's out there but not easily playable in NA.

Same as you OP: Yakuza Ishin.

Really don't get why there are like zero games that take place in historic Japanese settings. I'm not including things like Nioh, which are heavily fantasy focused.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

Yea, as a huge horror fan, I'm dying over the fact that we didn't get Fatal Frame 4, especially since I hear Suda worked on it to some degree. I have it on a shelf just sitting beside all the other localized games.

But yo, what's that Hungry Ghosts game? I just checked the "hardcoregaming101" webpage and their description made it sound pretty awesome, plus it's by the team that made Extermination on PS2.

Most things make it over now. Probably just the missing Yakuza games... Maybe a DBZ Hyper Dimension remaster?

I discovered it a year ago by chance (on Youtube) and i was blown away by the whole concept and atmosphere.I actually order it a week ago from ebay and hopefully it will arive any day now.I'm learning Japanese so hopefully i'll be able to progress a bit until i eventually get stuck. And yes this is by the same developers who made Extermination one of PS2's hidden gems IMO.

Here's some gameplay from Hungry Ghosts:

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that get an HD release and localization, but I would still be happy just to see it localized. Fortunately, I have a copy of it for my Sega Saturn, and it's easy enough to play without translations.

Would be pretty damn cool to get The Last Ranker or Grandia for Sega Saturn in English. I'm really dreaming of a strong fan translation for the original Growlanser, if I have to pick one project; the real prize would be shit-tons of classic J-PC games all fan translated into English, which is more possible than ever before now that a couple high-profile patches are out (48 Okunen Monogatari, CRW).

Shining force 3. All parts.
We just need SEGA to license the fan translation project and put patched emulated .ISOs of the games up on digital distro. Sadly they're never going to do that.

SMT 1-2 (Just bought fan translated 2 but still)

Etc.
Not getting SMT2 iOS/Android in English remains a damn shame, since I doubt I'd bother to play through the Super Famicom version which lacks the new features, art and music.

Speaking of Zwei: II, you all should read this thread I just made to explain the latest updates/info on that game.

Thankfully I'll be able to play Zero/Ao no Kiseki in English reasonably soon thanks to some excellent people.

Ao no Kiseki

And even though it's probably already happening, Sen no Kiseki III.

I give all my monies for Falcom games, even more for the Kiseki games.
