Jesus I hope they can move to something productive now

Who am I kidding. The next repeal bill will be on the table by next week.

I think they're going to try at least one more time. And honestly if it becomes more apparent that they're going to lose control in 2018 I wouldn't be surprised if they ram something through just out of spite.

I half expect them to spend 2018 trotting out bills they know won't go anywhere; letting GOP congress point to this or that as proof of trying while also letting various small groups of members kill it to look good to their constituents because it's too strict/too loose/whatever.

I can't believe they're going to actually sign on to anything bipartisan before midterms.

I'm not convinced there is enough danger in the midterms to prevent them from trying.

All of these terrible GOP health care bills are polling from 15 - 25%. The only time Trump's approval rating consistently dropped was when healthcare was in the news. The GOP base doesn't care about Charlottesville or NFL anthem protests, but fucking with their healthcare is actually politically toxic.

its sad it Took Obama leaving office for some GOP voters to finally get it

True but they seem to think getting caught doing nothing after all the talk is worse for them and it might be.

I'll believe GOP voters voting Democrat when I see it.

GOP won't try again in 2018 with midterms. This was it.
In a country where Trump gets elected after all the crap he's done and said, I have no doubt the GOP could pass a No More Kittens or Puppies law during midterms and get reelected just fine.

Banned
BUT I THOUGHT OBAMACARE GOING WAS THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS
Day 1.

Edit: It will be so easy.

The gospel according to Saint Trump

On the first day, he took down Obamacare and replaced it with Trumpcare. So easy.

On the second day, he banned every single country with black or brown people who aren't Christians to travel in. So easy. And so constitutional.

On the third day, he lowered taxes to 1% for everybody in the US, and it was good. And oh so easy. All international accords were also either disolved or renegotiated with US firmly on top. Master negotiator. Easy. And environmentally friendly. Mostly. Kinda.

On the fourth day, the Southern Wall was built. 100 feet high, 2000 miles long, 50 feet deep, 10 feet thick, and other measurements as well. It was so beautiful, and so easy.

On the fifth day, the rounding up of illegal immigrants was done, and re-locations outside of the country nearly done. So easy, so humane - everybody laughing and smiling and children playing. Specially the ones who had lived in the US their whole lives. So easy.

On the 6th day all police forces were finally fully militarized, and all the minorities, lgbt and Women were now at their correct place, where they belong. So easy, everybody happy. The media too. But who needs media anyway, except the state sponsored one that is...

On the last day, Saint Trump thought about resting, but with that much Stamina and energy there was no need. Time to wrap up and become White Christian Emperor Trump, lifetime position, and his children guaranteed to take over after him. So easy, so perfect.

Yep, they aren't going to stop trying.

They can't use reconciliation to pass this after 9/30, so they'd need 60 votes (which isn't going to happen, they'd need a lot of Democrats, and they won't get any). This is a big win (or loss, depending on your perspective).

This implies following and/or having respect for the rules.

There's a reason they tried and failed to pass this mystery box mess of a bill at the last minute. The use of reconciliation is up to the senate parliamentarian, which is a fairly non-political position, and she has set a hard date of 9/30.

It's going to be more challenging for Democrats to win a majority than Republicans in 2018.

So are we done now, is this finally it? I mean how many times can you run full speed against a wall, get up and try again?

Yes, but isn't the parliamentarian not actually binding legally, but procedurally, which can be ignored?

They should let single payer pass, but just barely. If it destroys the country, then they can always say "hey, we didn't want it".

That should work, right?

Trump is going to have at least ten more Twitter tantrums about nuking the filibuster Once the reconciliation window is closed. We get a temporary reprieve until he gets bored of yelling at football players.

Correction. Their base isn't heavily for this because they like having healthcare. It's their donors that are heavily for this.

Their base is heavily for this.

They want ACA gone because they believe it's terrible because that's what Fox News and right wing radio have been telling them since 2009.

It's in the polling, it's not just donors pushing this.

Yep. This will be his next main thing.

Yeah. The main thing is that they want it repealed and replaced with something good; not something still terrible.

Their base wants Obamacare gone but they don't want to lose their benefits from the ACA.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to Calvinball this through somehow. Someone is going to dig up some obscure senate laws or something that keeps this or another GOPcare bill viable and on the table ready for voting at a moment's notice.

I want to breathe, but I just don't trust them. There is too much at stake ($$$$) for them to give up on it. They will find a way to keep bringing the issue up just to appease their donors even if it becomes harder and harder to get things done. Hell I don't doubt they'd sacrifice some of their own even giving up seats just to prove they are committed to getting this done. You guys don't understand how hard they want that money. Even better if they end up a minority in congress as then they have a legit excuse and can point to the EVIL DEMS who are blocking their wonderful repeal/replace bills that have finally got all the kinks out and are totally ready for voting you betcha please give us the money now we try hard for you?!

Sure, but this is Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell, not Donald Trump. I don't see him doing it, particularly when they've had plenty of time (this congress took office nearly nine months ago with an incoming president that would sign anything to kill Obamacare) and have failed at every attempt. They just don't have the votes.
