Fortnite: Battle Royale |OT| 100 Players on Epic Battlegrounds

First game placed ninth place after boxing myself into a hand built metal shack and getting killed by the gas cloud.

I have to admit, this is a fucking trip. Love it so far. The destruction is what will really set it apart from PUBG.

Wow that was close. Summit holding PUBG above Fortnite BG. The guy streaming FNBG was entertaining with his teammate.

Is there a way of switching who you observe after death?

If they die, it switches to the player that killed them. If you get killed by a skilled player, it's actually a pretty great way to watch the match unfold. I've already picked up a few pointers through spectating.

So uh... scouring for information, but want to be clear. Fortnite BR is free, but regular Fortnite is still early access?

Yes.

Do we have a thread for Epic GAF players? I'd love to squad up with GAfers even though im still new to this type of mode. (ignoring Socom days but I hated team killing so F that)

It's all from the same client, but yes. One download, but you will only be able to access the Battle Royale portion from the client unless you have access to the PvE mode.

Such a tease lmao

PS4 has two parts of the download, the first is enough to launch the game...

But the BR mode requires the rest of the download. Won't be playing this tonight then :p

Well I tried one game. Weapons still do not feel good to use.

They're going to have to overhaul the system eventually because what they have in place right now is just not good for PVP.

I don't think they'll ever overhaul the mechanics.

Squad with a good team works much, much better than PUBG - building structures and demolition changes everything. Had several instances where mates were laying down cover fire so we could advance and build/tear down walls. There's a pretty nice interplay of providing offense vs. defense, different roles within the team from moment to moment.

Combat and gun play need some tweaks and overall balancing and it needs more depth overall, but it's extremely fun right now. It's also a blast to watch.

You're probably right, and it's a shame because I think there's a ton of potential everywhere else.

Really my only gripe with the game is probably with the weapons. The balance isn't particularly great and a majority of the weapons don't feel good to use at all.

I hope they figure something out though because if they can nail down the feel of the weapons I think they have something special on their hands.

After a few games I see this a game to compliment PUBG not so much replace it.

If you have 15minutes to kill instead of 35ish boot up fortnite.
If you're looking for a more deathmatchy experience, boot up fornite.
If you're looking for a more goofy experience, boot up fortnite.

The game feels ridiculously polished for what it is. I especially love the looting and inventory mechanics because it's very easy to see if there is anything of value in a house, and those sounds the chests make that have you destroying a house to find them is great. The building mechanic is really fun too, like when you're down to the final 15 and the circle is closing in around you, you can build cover around yourself so that you only have to watch one direction....at least that was the idea until some one brings a grenade launcher and you die before you realize what's going on lol.

I also think the sound design, especially positional audio is spot on and if you ask me far better than PUBG. It's much easier to hear for footsteps, and know where they are coming from.

The weapon handling is alright, i think some minor tweaking of the spray mechanics would be beneficial to the experience. Having a seemingly random spray even when tapping (or at least it feels like it) is frustrating at long ranges.

The biggest negative I can think of is that because the map is so small and densely packed getting screwed out of a weapon in the first 15 seconds of landing can lead to an obnoxiously quick game over. Unless you go somewhere very off the beaten path and risk not finding something useful for a while everywhere on the island has the same feeling that school has in PUBG. It's just high intensity buckle up butter cup action where you tend to die on a coin flip.

Over all, I honestly quite like it. Can't wait for duo's to be a thing.

They'll absolutely tweak weapon balance, they've already mentioned RNG spread with rifles being too unreliable I think

So, for those who won a match, how many kills did you get? I ended up being first killing only 3 people (one at the beginning, one two minutes later and the other player remained at the end on 1 vs 1). I usually hide myself in intricated forts and that seems the best way to survive. I may be a coward, but at least I have an umbrella now. :D

Is it normal in this kind of games to kill only 3 people and win a match? Or is it possible only in Fortnite? I never played PUBG.

It largely depend on your playstyle.

I won more than 5 solo game in PUBG, and i had 1, 2 or 3 kills in most of those games. My max was 6. But i play very safe.

I think the foundation is solid for this to be a success. I already feel this plays way better than PUBG. The art style is hit or miss depending on a person's preference. I enjoy the more cartoony aspect and everything looks clean and sharp.

Obviously more things need to be added or enhanced but that will come with time and look forward to what they have in store. The only thing I really want personally is a first-person mode which I'm not sure can be done with the engine but if possible I would play it way more if it could be done.

I've never played PUBG but holy shit one match of this has convinced me. That was intense as HELL. Came in 2nd somehow with 6 kills. This is fucking fun.

Yeah, right now map is too small/not enough buildings.

It's a mad dash to get into a house, and it shouldn't be like that.

Is the map size because it's on console? or because it doesn't have vehicles?

Enjoyed it last night. At the start of one game some dude found a rocket launcher straight away and was blowing up the house I was in. I had to keep scampering from room to room as he blew out the walls. He must have run out of ammo and decided to come into what was left and I blew him away with a shotgun to the face.

I shot a guy running parallel to me 6 times with the m4. Each time I hit him the number "32" popped up... so I guess I did 192 total damage. He spun and around and shot me twice and killed me me. Well that sucks, he had a sniper rifle I guess. Then I read "Killed by pistol". Booooooooooo

Could've been a gold pistol.

Got my first solo win. Was really fun. I had to fight my instinct to leave my little fort I made. I also got a little lucky in circle placement. And one time I accidentally fell off my base when sniping someone who was building up to me. He was surprised af though and I managed to 2 tap with shotgun through shields.

1hk bolt sniper carried.

FYI your umbrella doesn't open at a universal height. Once you get so close to something it opens. So if you fly to close to a mountain it will open. Just aim for the lowest spot if you want to get to the ground quicker.

Tried for first time on PS4 and it was super laggy/buggy. I was running and then I teleported back about 20 yards and someone shot me. I have good internet, uncapped FiOS so I don't know what's up but it was a turn off.

Even the lobby area was lagging when I was trying to build a wall.

This is the perfect pvp shooter for my wife who's really bad at shooting games. She sees someone she just books it away. Even got a 6th place.
