Oh no we aren't going down any path. Just pointing out some nonsense.
it is as much nonsense to prefer children of men to 100 films as it is to prefer 100 films to children of men. at the end of the day, why give a shit?

The same reason you obviously do? Because everyone's full of themselves and their own opinions
i don't know if you noticed me not arguing either side. it's stupid to get worked about other people's preferences.

I'm not a Nolan fan so I'd definitely agree with that.

Because that's a normal response. And people post their opinions in hopes of getting responses.
but what's your end game? "yeah, you're right, i do like TWBB more than CoM"?

Really need to watch the first one again before I go see this. Feels like its been well over a decade since I last saw it and don't remember it that well.

Feels like Blade Runner is one of those films I never really sat down and appreciated.

goku would annihilate Superman btw
Batman with prep time.

why are we even talking about children of men

The simple answer is that all the reviews appeared at once on Friday when the embargo ended at 0900 EDT, and since they're virtually unanimous we've run out of things to talk about until the film's official release.

According to my local cinema in Northeast England, the film is released on Thursday 5th starting with a 2D matinee at 1030 BST (UTC+0100). Wikipedia says there will be a Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday 3rd, with the nationwide US release being Friday 6th. If you want to avoid reading spoilers, please go dark before the premiere.

Everything wrong with sequels. There's not one original, awe inspiring moment in this film. It's cold, emotionally inert, uninspired and ultimately an empty experience.

Michelle seems to have given A to Civil War and BvS both, btw.

I'm not a fan of Ryan Gosling, at all. He's one of the blandest, one note actors in the business today. He has one facial expression in every one of his films and that's bored. His characters are always completely bored with whatever they are doing and it's the same here. He's just going through the motions. Beyond his looks, I'll never understand his appeal and why people think he's such a ”great," actor. He just isn't.

I walked out of the theater wishing I spent my nearly 3 hours doing anything other than getting my ear drums pounded into submission watching this. It truly was a chore to sit through.

OK. Thanks for your input, Michelle.

'A' on Transformers: AOE as well.

In all seriousness though, I do agree with oneida that we're probably going to see the film's RT score drop some more. I don't think it's gonna go under 90% though.

That "review"... lul.

"I'm gonna be the one to go against everyone in this movie!!!!"

"Oh how awesome I am. So original. Much divergent opinion."

Still sticking with my 96% guess

You know Villeneuve's made it as a director when you get angry PMs about how he would, in fact, be great for Star Wars.

There was nothing out of bounds that we talked about (spoiler, I wasn't angry). I PM'd you to keep it out of this thread, which you're so willing not to do.

Then you ignored what I said and bright it BACK into this thread

What a petty guy

Dude im just messin around im srory man

Yeah man! Just a joke bro

Thank god. I would have started getting worried if Michelle had liked it:

Inception
It's hard to connect with a movie when it tries so hard to fool you; is this a dream, is it not, is it a dream within a dream? Who cares? Just commit to something and get on with it. A crushing bore.‐ Eclipse Mag

Washington Post review: "a sequel that honors--and surpasses--the original." Michael O'Sullivan.

(Edit: looks like a pay site, though I read the whole article the first time. Sorry.)

I spotted this bit in the WaPo review and I completely agree with it:

If this synopsis sounds like it’s dancing around a more explicit summary of who’s who and what’s what, it is. Some critics who were invited to press screenings of “2049” were asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement, singling out several characters and plot points as spoilers to be avoided. Reporters from The Post were not asked to sign this, but because the film contains many genuine pleasures and surprises, large and small, it really is best to know the least about this film.

Hmm. Considering there have been some very good sequels/reboots lately, yeah I'm taking this review with a grain of salt.

Golden Circle:
The movie is over the top, frenetic, and at times funny as hell. If you asked me, and the studio did, I would have said it's one of my favorite films of 2017. The problem occurs when you overthink it and try and nitpick it to death.‐ Eclipse Magazine

RT has a real problem with people posting bait when the ratings are near perfect to attract traffic.

Without trawling through the thread, is there any consensus on whether or not this is worth seeing in 3D?

I haven't heard anyone comment on it. Both of my IMAXs though, who will usually show a film in 3D if they can, are playing this in 2D over here. In Massachusetts.

It's not playing in IMAX 3D in North America.

And the cinematographer Roger Deakins says his intended way for us to see it is in 2D scope (wide) ratio, not 3D or IMAX.

Is the aspect ratio for it in 2D IMAX actually different from the aspect ratio for non IMAX screens?

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but it has been probably a decade since I watched the original and I want to give it a rewatch this week. What is the "definitive" cut?

And honestly, as a big Nolan fan, Children of Men is DEFINITELY better than most of his films.

Children of Men is fantastic. Whats Cuaron up to these days?
