I just don't want the Guardians movies to lose their personality by being a winning formula that Marvel bleeds dry.
I'm glad they're doubling down on "fun," though. Comic book and superheros movies need to have a good chunk of wonder and levity or they collapse under the weight of middle-aged men in silly costumes self-seriously brooding.

I mean, I trust the guy directing it but we always see those same comments about every comicbook film.
Whenever someone says "it feels like an 80's videogame" I feel like what they are really trying to say is that it feels like a videogame set in the 80's or inspired by. Like, an 80's videogame barely had any colors and graphics, it makes no sense to compare.

When I think about retro synths, I always think of Strangers Things instead of, you know, Vangelis or Carpenter, because music was born on the 2000's I guess.

To be fair, theres a difference between a formula and an aesthetic. If you to talk about the actual formula of GOTG - the way character drama is presented, the mix of tense battles with wtf moments - then that's a whole different discussion. If you ask me, aving similar visual styles isnt that troubling.
What's it like to not ever have had a good time at the movies?
The real question is how long does a film have to be before it can even be considered 'fun'?
I'm moreso asking for them to explain why it's fun rather than shouting "it's fun!". So many MCU movies are described like this in reactions. Also you should really consider putting me on your ignore list.
I have great times at the movies often, thank you very much.

Considering how Dr Strange turned out and what I thought of it, I'm not sure critical acclaim for a MCU film means anything to me anymore. Tasty kool aid though,

Dr Strange wasn't an enjoyable experience for you?
Yeah unless you know of games or other media inspired by 80's aesthetic and music. Then it's so easy to misinterpret something like that. I for one, adore the synthetic pop music and bright colors of the 80's.
I mean, not everyone is going to like every movie that ends up having an overall great reaction from critics/audiences. There are plenty of well-reviewed movies I didn't enjoy.
(Doctor Strange is pretty awesome though. Not without its flaws, of course.)

You're buying into that Gaf TDW hate.
It's in the lower end when it comes to Marvel movies but it's not the horrible movie movie threads on Gaf would lead you to believe.
Eh I kind of always thought that way before I become a member of Gaf. Not horrible no, but it was the weakest MCU film.
Regardless Ive been optimistic since creative control isnt being hindered by the execs at Marvel Entertainment.

Doctor Strange was aggressively boring for sure which was a shame considering the cool stuff they had to work with from that character
Waititi made two really fun and irreverent comedy movies prior to this though so I got some faith in Thor 3 being one of the better mcu movies out there

No, it was a tepid bore with by the numbers direction of an uninspiring screenplay that was a complete waste of the character and of my time. One of the worst MCU films next to Thor 2 and the Incredible Hulk. It had absolutely nothing to say.
I'm just saying, people on Twitter going "WOW THIS NEW MCU MOVIE IS FUN" means so little to me now. It literally tells me nothing. They say the same things about every MCU regardless of the range in quality. I thought Homecoming was really good and was surprised, but there's no way you can tell much different between that and Dr Strange judging from general critical reception.
Professor Thorgi described it as Marvel using the 70's/80's aesthetic to brand their cosmic films, & I honestly agree with him on that.

Did anyone find Dr Strange enjoyable? Thing was a forgettable slog with a couple of redeeming sequences.
Early impressions of comic book movies don't have the best track record, but it's Taika so I'm fairly confident Thor 3 will deliver.
