hey guys I wonder what the writer of Identity Crisis is up to these days

https://twitter.com/bradmeltzer/status/917399865226821632

*sighs* I hate when I'm proven wrong. I can't all sides people who're like "You made Iceman a homo". And I can't all sides someone who thinks the NFL protests are about anything other than police brutality, or thinks America doesn't have a police brutality issue.

I actually liked Identity Crisis for what it was--it started the era of "superheroes as a community" that continued until N52--but that don't stop him from sounding dumb here.

Ugh. I can only hope these are doing well enough via TPBs and digital to justify their continued existence.

"If that is your real name" ? Lmao. Dude. Chill. Ryan's been running a shop for like a decade plus now. I don't think he's operating under an assumed name.

...Doubtful. You don't push Marvel's "Rebirth" three months into the future if Legacy falls on its face. You're bleeding money from a lost deal, but if readers are leaving you'll just lose it faster.

Marvel is already hilariously in the position that racists and homophobes think they don't do enough, while super liberal people think they aren't trying hard enough to be diverse either. They've gotta figure something out.

lmfao I know Ryan Higgins is real

However,

Full data is here.

The big story isn't anything at Marvel, however, it's that fucking Metal boost. Teen Titans, Nightwing and Suicide Squad went from around 30k to breaking 50k with their Metal tie-in. Meanwhile, you look at Secret Empire tie-ins, and you kinda forget that event boost is supposed to be a thing that can happen. There's something fundamentally broken in the way Marvel runs their business that they fuck up something this simple.

People are tired of huge events from Marvel and the number of tie-ins they usually have. Metal is the more appealing event.

Painting it as “huge events from Marvel” is missing the point. Metal will likely get a Frank Tieri book in the Top Ten.

“Huge Events” aren’t the problem. Marvel has a giant confidence problem. In that readers don’t have any in their line.

Sigh....Ally and Lisa. I miss them so much.

A Ducktales comic is selling more than America.................

It needs a change in direction fast otherwise I don't see this making it past 12 issues.

That book should've already been canceled. It has been so bad since the first issue.

If they cancel it at #12 this comic would have offered nothing except reveal America's past, which you could have done in a mini.

I don't think they should cancel it. Just change the team on it. America is already a good character, the writer just doesn't get it.

That's not a real response to my post. If you're willing to try again I'm willing to hear you though.

And America being outsold by Duck Tales is deserved. Duck Tales is a decently entertaining little read, and the first two issues of America made me sad we were wasting beautiful art and one of Marvel's coolest new characters.

I would think it hurts Marvel more than the industry as a whole.

Marvel and DC doing poorly is never a good thing. If there's excitement around both brands, it brings more people into stores and they do better. Rebirth was better for the comic industry all around, for instance.

I don't think an editor can fix the fact that she doesn't get the character on a fundamental level.

I think she kinda gets her. She needs an editor to guide her to better story potentials than just "America goes to college and learns stuff." Her past being revealed felt like the most substantial thing that's happened in her comic and going back to the college setting just feels like a waste of time.

Sure, but it still hurts the industry. Marvel bring weak helps very few people. But hey at least it's funny.

Exactly! I'm glad we agree.

This is capitalism. If Marvel should shrivel and die (they won't lmao), then another company would step in and take their place. That's how this shit works.

Image and Valiant aren't pulling that off and Batman wouldn't just start selling double.

You may need a world class team to do it because the character is pretty much almost ruined for me. Maybe cancel this series and then start over in like a year or two.

Nothing game breaking has really changed her character. The only small change is she speaks spanish more often than ever before.

Well I guess that's my decision made on whether or not to read Nightwing and Robin.

The 90s X-men were the first comics I ever bought... Now I think the only Marvel book on my pull list is Runaways. I want them to become good again.

In other news, I've actually read some comics this week! I've been picking my comics up and just putting them in a box since Spring. A few days ago I started to organize them which lead me to actually reading some. I read Southern Cross Vol. 2, Kill or Be Killed Vol. 2, Elsewhere 1-2, Generation Gone 1-3, and Moonstruck 1-2.

Still going strong. Word of mouth must be pushing it even though I haven't heard a lot of talk.

Hmm, does anyone know the last issue's numbers? Surprise this is so low.

Motor Crush has been steadily dropping since #1. They are a team that are going to be relying on trade numbers from book stores. I think they believed the team batgirl moniker and such would carry them and it hasn't translated. Doesn't help that the book is so damn boring and eh.

How much time does in usually take for an artist to make such an sketch? It always looks like they take a lot of time for that stuff

Chuck Dixon is a large part of what made Nightwing and Robin cool in the 90's, but talking to him now is just...*sighs* I dunno. :(

I enjoyed Iris and Jai but I didn't like Iris being Impulse 'cause I still think it was a mistake that Bart took on that role. Mark Waid never wanted that for him. Geoff Johns does excellent work until he tries making the 90's teen heroes try to fit into the slots of the 80's ones IMO.

I said before though it'd be great to have Young Justice back. Teen Titans doesn't serve the same purpose. James Tynion + Williamson on that title would be fine with me. Double-ship it for awhile then settle into a monthly pattern if you want.

Batgirl didn't last long enough for that. It's a snapshot of an era of comics, but it's not necessarily a ground-breaking thing on its own. Just part of a wave. Not to discount their talent, but they should've done another Big Two book or two before moving on to their own thing.

So I was listening to the most recent Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men podcast episode and they were covering the last 4 issues of X-Factor with the O5 X-Men, before Peter David took over the series. It was an arc with baby Cable and Apocolypse which got me thinking about the Askani and Cable himself and that I dont think ive read many storylines that actually focused on his time in the future before coming to the present day/the 90s.

Are there any recommended storylines that go into detail on the Askani? Anything in the original Cable series also worth checking out?

I plan on reading some of the original X-Force run, especially the issues that Capullo did the art for. Ive read some of X-Cutioner's Song but didnt finish it since it wasnt complete on MU at the time.

Is Bishop from the same timeline as Cable or was he a product of the new future after Cable messed with the timeline lol?

Are the Marvel Epic Collections on sale whenever Amazon does their Marvel Kindle Sales?

The only lasting legacy from that run is the outfit, which I don't see DC changing for a long time.

Her powers keep changing in her own book. At one point is she's like super strong and nigh invulnerable, the next issue she's getting punched out by her former girlfriend with no super powers. She can create portals to other times and places but gets stuck on a space station during Secret Empire. It's just weird and delves into nonsensical stuff.

Power inconsistency is an easy fix.

That's an easy thing to ignore, this is comics world of inconsistent feats

Not the first they ignore that
