What's funny is I stopped trying during this match a little less than halfway through.

So all you have left is widow? Thats pretty damn good. Which has been the most dificult so far?

Surprisingly, I've been doing my best as Mei, but I keep getting 2nd place. No 1st place yet.

I had the most amazing matches. Won two games, lost two and not even mad that we lost because we all did our best. Added two cool dudes as well. Nice randoms are rare to get after all!

D.VA is my love. I play her sooooooo aggressive and I love it. She's like a Tracer to me with a big ass health + second life what's not to love? Lol

I will try to upload the plays I did with her and post it her.

Most difficult is probably Widow, Mercy, and Orisa for me.

It's hard to say because I feel like I got lucky with both Ana and Zarya. Ana I played maybe 4-6 games with her, and Zarya I think I played 3.

Played the most toxic game of my life. Entire team tilted at me. Called me the n word and told me to kill myself. The worst part is it was led by a girl (who you'd expect to understand online abuse) with the rest of the team white knighting. She clearly enjoyed it.

First time toxicity got to me. What was said was bad enough to tip someone who's depressed/suicidal to do something they shouldn't.

This game is a complete fucking mess and fuck Jeff Kapplan for letting the toxicity get this bad whilst pumping out the events so blizzard can get their money.

Damn man, sorry that happened. I’d recommend just not getting on mics. I don’t and its led to a lot less stress when doing comp.

I'm not sure why you hold Jeff Kaplan personally responsible for their behavior. I mean, I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but please place your anger at a more productive location.

Yo what’s up with the matchmaking lately? I’m often getting paired with two teams of two against a team of four people you can tell have been playing with each other for a long time who choose characters that compliment each other.

Also, why are so many people now choosing torb on Nepal? It rarely works.

I’m honestly kinda in shock. We had zero tanks, some dude chose rein point a numbani, he literally switched to widow right before point a started lmao.

Does anyone else ever spiral into a losing streak in comp, and it feels like you're playing worse and worse as you go along?

I just had a really bad case of this, and it's especially bad because I don't like to exit the game on a loss, so I'll keep banging it out until I get a win. After about 1.5 hours, I finally got a win because my team was really good, but at what cost? My fingers feel like they're going to fall off, my elbows are sore from the chair's arm-rest.

Had to deal with something similar last season, but I'm doing better to not play beyond two consecutive losses. It's not worth losing your sanity if you are not in the groove and are on a losing streak.

I can't just blame Jeff, but I can blame the O Wteam for cultivating one of the most toxic online games in history.

I agree. Player toxicity is a problem in every online-enabled game with open chat functionality, & the development team/Blizzard should have seen this coming and have a better plan for it during the games development.

Thankfully, as far as the PC community is concerned, PUBG now exists. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to assume that a very large chunk of those
rather
toxic players have migrated over to that shooter.

^ That's an interesting way of looking at it actually. As long as the game remains healthy, I don't mind the more twatty ones goihg elsewhere.

I gotta say though, as someone who plays on PS4, I've never had horrible experiences like Skii mentioned above. Granted, I don't play Comp much, but my experience even there has been generally pleasant.

Of course you get the odd troll/griefer, and someone sent me a PSN message calling me out on my bad play - we won and I got POTG - but that's about it.

Maybe I'm just lucky. Either way, the game has not lost much of its fun factor since launch for me.

Hopefully. Though I haven't really seen much toxicity myself, however I don't often play competitive. I would say it is hard to develop around the fact that a lot of people are just generally terrible people. And since there is SR and ranks at stake, shitty people will act out their shitty behavior onto others, even though in the end its a game and who fucking cares.

It helps that FFA Deathmatch is surprisingly awesome, as the majority of Sniper/Hanzo/DPS players go to murder everyone without those pesky objectives and team coordination thingy's hampering their blood-lust. (I'm having a blast picking up Roadhog again and being a big bully to those greedy Tracer players that have caused me guff.)

While I can't speak for everyone, Season 6 has been so much better on that front. For the most part, players I've queued up with in competitive mode have been eager to switch roles for the optimal team composition (instead of stubbornly refusing to bend to the majority's chosen strategy). We (usually) congratulate each other on well-thought-out plays & wish each other luck in our future games.

Only one person has been genuinely rude to me in the many dozen games I've played, and that jerk was swiftly told to shut the fuck up and was promptly muted by everybody. It's made grinding for SR much more enjoyable, even if we loss a match.

I know some people here will think Jeff's suggestion to not be an asshole sounded trite, but I wonder how widespread that simple realization was. I hope these players are slowly realizing that they are not alone in their desire for friendly online gaming experiences.

Any PC players here want to play comp together sometime tomorrow? I don't have very good luck solo queuing at my low rank. I just want to get back into gold before the end of the season.

I'm also down if you want to play the Halloween brawl. I've been hankering for some Overwatch Player VS. Horde since the Uprising Event ended.

If not, competitive it is!

No. You haven't played many online games or you wouldn't say that. Overwatch is nothing compared to flamers in LoL or DOTA 2

Somehow I didn't know the haloween event starts tomorrow.

For some reason I though it was still like a week away.

I have actually. Dota 2 I will give you is worse in some ways. You'd be pressed to find an online game I haven't fucked with in the last decade or so. I can easily put Overwatch in the top 5 most toxic I've ever played.

Much of the toxicity stems from the information the game gives on your team. The first thing people or streamers do, is to check on their team and find the fall guy with past bad SR, one trick or whatever that confirms their bias and go to the match with the wrong attitude. I mean some of that might be true but you don't need to know, it's better for the quality of the game if you don't know; It reduces all the blaming and salt by a lot. You should be focusing on making the most out of what you have. I can't think of any other games that gives this much info during the match. You play CSGO, you have no idea about your teammates pasts. For this reason I think the team is mostly responsible for it and it's very fair to blame the team for the game they made and not just a case of toxic people being toxic.

Ive been playing online games for a long time and I agree with you. OW is far and away the most frustrating and toxic shooter I've ever played on top of the fact that its not very good. You should honestly stop playing.

I like how in CSGO you can't see anybody's ranks in the server until the game finishes. You can only see that info for people you queue with.

(I also like how that game gives a real scoreboard instead of making you compete directly with your teammates)

It might be worth getting rid of the medal system, if only to curb any arguments that arise from it.

I do like the voting cards though, as it encourages a more positive outlook. Take away the ability to vote for yourself and maybe tie exp boosts to votes, and you might have a decent system there.

Perhaps they can have everyone who played available for votes, and you just pick who you think did best for your/their team. You wouldn't even have to put stats down necessarily.

That's sort of what League does now. You just vote for like different kinds of good behavior rather than performance. You get an honor level the more votes you get, and if you have a high honor level you get free rewards. The only issue is that if nobody is particularly nice, you just give your vote to whoever carried the hardest.

They've put a lot of effort into punishing bad players and building rewarding good ones into every single game. It's not perfect considering where they are coming from, but it's quite the huge turn around.

2-2 match on Volskaya. Enemy team has 1 minute, we have 6 minutes to do it all over again. We´re on defense first, Reinhart charges into their spawn from the chokepoint, dies by falling off the ledge, we give up first point in 30-45 seconds, they steamroll through point 2.

Reinhardt justifies his idiotic play because he has gold eliminations and damage "as a tank." This is unfortunately the mentality with this game, you make one mistake(or multiple mistakes) that costs your team the game but its OK you have gold medal elims!

Edit: Yes, we did end up losing that game.

That sounds like something Blizz could implement here. That bit I bolded is an issue though, and one I don't really have an ideas to fix it. There's only so much any one system can do against human nature - for lack of a better phrase - in a competitive setting.

On the whole though, rewarding a positive outlook is the way to go. Hopefully Blizz will give it a rethink, because with a lot of things in Overwatch, I don't think what they have now is all that far away from where it needs to be.

Hmm. While I like the medal system in theory, it enables the mindset of "gold medals = good performance". Of course, there are times where that absolutely the case, but a lot of the time it doesn't really tell the story. Like, if I get gold elims as D.Va, it's usually because I sprayed fire at the right to help confirm a kill, as opposed to doing the hard work in setting up said kill. I might not even get the final blow.

I have an idea, get rid of all the "heroes the player has played" info, people get toxic when they see that someone is a Lucio main, or a Mercy a main, or even a Sombra main and they'd be like "Oh you fucking one trick!" even when they try and play a different hero, I saw that happening with my own eyes when a Lucio main tried to play soldier and they berated him for it despite doing well overall.

Personally I dont give a shit about one tricks, what does piss me off though is when your top 5 heroes played are exactly whats needed to fill team composition, but you decide to go Hanzo or Widowmaker or whatever hero you never played just because.

I just cant do an action I consider not helping my team. But yeah there was one game in my entire session that had good comms whilst there were 4 games where someone said the n word and this is in Europe where its explicitly a racist term.

I'm not sure why you hold Jeff Kaplan personally responsible for their behavior. I mean, I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but please place your anger at a more productive location.

Who do I direct my anger at??? Jeff Kapplan is literally responsible for development of this game. His team are completely culpable for the sorry state this game is in. Maybe as a PS4 player you dont fully realise how bad it is on PC.

Every single session I play someone is either racist or tells someone to kill themselves without fail. And they dont care if they're reported because Blizzard are incompetent at dealing with toxicity.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been told to kill myself in this game. Only yesterday it got to me because the entire team blamed every lost fight on me using racial slurs as well as encouraging suicide.

It's time to join the club of players that quit Overwatch.

Yup, I'm finished with this game. Fuck getting to GM. It's not worth fucking up your mental health.

Lmao. There is so much they can do. It took like 3000 reports for action to be taken against someone and they got banned for 7 days. It's a joke. There is no repercussions for any toxic action in this game. And whatever they are implementing isn't enough. What was said to me would be enough to get you locked up irl.

Do you blame Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland for Rick and Morty Fans causing physical destruction to several McDonalds franchises this last Saturday?

I understand that Jeff Kaplan has a level of power/control over the game, but as far as toxicity goes, this is a gaming culture thing, not an Overwatch thing. Developers can only do so much to fend it off. And it really is a cancer, in that it can't be a battle won against, only a fight you can delay before it eventually overtakes you.

I admit to being a console player, and maybe I don't deal with it as bad as you do, but I'm pretty sure we both have the same tools; we can both leave chat when things are obviously not going to go well.

Look, I'm sorry that you had a group of strangers verbally assault you over the internet. That sucks, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry for anyone that ever has to experience that. But taking that anger and just turning it into more toxicity isn't the right answer. I understand that you are hurt and angry, and I'm sorry you had to go through that.
