COMICS|OT|October 2017- The only thing scarier than Messi's avatar are Marvels sales

I dipped out on the Sam Wilson book many issues ago because it was too goddamn depressing and I knew Steve's redemption would involve purely Steve.
There was always this thought that Sam would rise up and be Captain America, so I was able to trudge through all of that depressing shit because there was a hope there, but I guess Spencer really was with #NotMyCaptainAmerica the whole time.

And Steve doesn't even get a redemption. It's just a whole new Steve. They're two separate people. Problem fucking solved.

I far prefer Remender's run on Cap to what Spencer did. Especially Dimension Z. One of my favorite Steve stories of all time in fact.

Man, I can't wait for the Comixology Christmas sale. These CAD conversion fees are killing me, man.

Just hit Chuck Austen's first arc on Exiles. I totally forgot what an evil bitch Magik was.
His kill the Heroes for Hire arc was uneven, and his X-Men crossover was just horrible. The only arcs I liked that he wrote were the Hyperion arcs. And those were just okay.

I love the Exiles.

I just finished Harbinger Wars and the tie-ins really hurt my enjoyment. Also, I hate
those twins because they could've prevented the fight with Bloodshot that allowed Harada to swoop in.

Lonely Place of Living in 'Tec is like a love letter to things erased from canon, Hypertime , Titans of Tomorrow!
Kon-El
, Batman 666
!Damian
. On top of the obvious Lonely Place of Dying stuff from last issue.

Huh. So I finally got around to reading the first two issues of Hi-Fi Fight Club and it's really really good. Like, almost Giant Days good.

Join us, join us, join us :) ha - It really is great, I love all the exagerated character expressions and reactions, just gives the book such a lighthearted fun cartoon/almost anime style. Also the relationship starting between Chris and Maggie is cute as a button. Really hope it gets the sales to become an ongoing or come back for another mini series.

Chuck Austens x-men run was indeed horrible, I mean the creepy coma school nurse love triangle, Polaris with her sex talk at her batcholerette party and blind gambit. I don't think his run of other things could be much worse.

Weeee, it's New Comic Day! Who's excited? I'm excited!

Well my new comics day tends to be tomorrow as it takes a day for my issues to get posted to me but the buzz of new comic day is always fun. A good week this week with Metal, Mr Miracle, Runaways and a few other bits :)

I realised thinking about it last night theres going to be a point soon when Metal, Doomsday Clock and Mr Miracle issues will be being released by DC all at the same time. DC going in strong for the end of this year.

Only one of those will be good tho.
I'm joking! Mostly.

Wonder how this will go over lol. Spoilers for today's Amazing Spider-man but nothing super important to the overall story or anything like that:

It's been seen on him quite a bit after the book was nominated for Eisners after it was cancelled.

It has lol? And noone has flipped out over it? Kinda werid seing an article about it if its been seen quite a bit, but I guess the implications are the story. Havent read the issue yet myself (still working my way through the trades, almost finished with the pre Secret Wars portion) so Im not sure
if they hooked up or not yet,

Michael Cray was the good stuff. I can't wait to see
their twisted take on the other DC heroes. I know from solicits that after the Oliver Queen story wraps up that he'll be going after Barry Allen
. I'm really curious to see who is going to be on Michael's team as well.

Just got done with this series and it's a new fav. If this is every Fourth World story written by Kirby, count me in. Spiderman losing his company and going back to square one would be stupid, I hope they deal with it well.

Ooooo hot takes, out of which list the comics I've mentioned or the DC series?

Because so far I've enjoyed Metal and Mr Miracle both, in entirely different ways though. They are very different series.

I'm just not really sold on Metal like that and Mr. Miracle is good but not groundbreaking IMO. I don't have a problem with their popularity though, I'm just poking fun. XD

Him and Mockingbird together is so weird to me. I'm glad Pete seems to be in a relationship again tho. He's been single since Carlie Cooper dumped him. Can't even say it was to make him look like a swinging bachelor either--he had a brief fling with Silk and then they immediately wrote it out 'cause it looked gross to create a lady character who just couldn't keep her hands off Pete.

Still. Mockingbird? I...guess. It's weird that superheroes just seem to pass each other around like this lol.

Speaking of Carlie Cooper, apparently they're bringing her back going by NYCC.

Its all good, were all about poking fun in here :)

Like I said I've enjoyed both, for the first bit of Metal I couldn't really get through how silly it all is but once I realised thats the point of it, to be over the top and ridiculous and full of crazy ideas like the rock and roll of comics, I've been enjoying it and going with it. You could probably question some of Snyders plotting and writing a little but I've been really liking it for all the easter eggs, old character returns and call backs to old storys. It really is a love letter to the DC universe and history as a whole. Also some of those evil Batmen are pretty cool.

Mr Miracle I think is too early to say, didn't think issue 1 was much more than starting to set up the story, but thought issue 2 was great and you can see something special could be starting to build. I trust King enough from the first few issues to see that it has the potential to be a special run. (Not had chance to read issue 3 yet)

I think out of the three that if any are the risky one its going to be Doomsday Clock, not only is it tough to get the theme and tone of the Watchmen world right unless your Moore, you then have to try and combine that world with mainstream DC universe and characters. I think Johns has the talent to pull it off but won't be easy. I mean Before Watchmen showed its not easy to jump back into that world.

Isn't Spidey in a relationship(or trying to ) with that comedian in Spectacular

Then again it's the only Parker book I'm reading

I was just going to say that, damn that parker luck can't be too bad if hes got two women on the go. They will probably both crash and burn within a few issues but you know Parker gonna Parker.

So Runaways #2 kinda mentions how long Gert was dead in-universe. It's not a spoiler. Everything from the original Civil War 11 years ago to "now" has happened in
2
years. Yeah...

This makes me think Michael Cray is gonna bum me out. Last thing I need is another "classic" Warren Ellis take on superheroes lol.

I think so long as its not Watchmen 2 but an honest discussion on how Watchmen has affected the DC Universe since its publication, it'll all be fine. The second you try to tell the "rest of the story" to Watchmen though, it's fucked.

I guess my problem with Metal is that it's probably a little too much Batman for me. I love the call back to him being shot backwards in time because it's such a pre-Flashpoint plot point, but besides that it hasn't sold me yet.

It's made out of Grant Morrison-era Seven Soldiers covers.

Edit: Also, if I'm not mistaken Alters comes out this week! Yay!!

Did Scott Snyder/DC ever announce what the new "Premium Format" meant for what he would be working on after All Star Batman? I know they announced he would be doing another arc with Murphy in Last Knight. But awhile back he said All Star would be ending early after the Last Ally arc and would be switching over to some sort of new premium format style book.

Marvel Time more or less converts every 4 to 5 "real" years as one Marvel year, so that adds up.

Just don't look at it too hard or everything falls apart.

It was 1 inside 616, 3 outside. Now it's 1 inside, 5 and a half outside.

Logan was probably only dead for 6 months now.

I think your right that would be a better way to go rather than trying to a direct sequel, but as well as that I think if your doing Watchmen you need to try and cover the politics and big society issues of the time as the original series did and again doing both those things well is not easy at all. I've seen a lot of classic comic book style stories by Johns but can't see I've really seen much he's done where he covers the political climate.

Yeah I get that Metal is very Batman, its pretty much a bookend to all his Batmen runs and his love of the DC universe mixed together. You can tell its a Batman story, but a Batman story that has got so big that it effects the whole universe (well multiverse even) so then you need to start including the rest of the league and lots of other characters. I think some of the other league might come into it more in the Bats Out Of Hell cross over issues coming soon. I think the concept of the evil Batmen could actually be brought up again in the future, with maybe different character versions from the dark multiverse. Imagine a whole team of evil supermen in the same vein, I mean theres already been some good alternative Supermen stories such as red son.
