Welll, that conversation didn't necessarily happen. Just speculation that it did from another official. Because, honestly, what could they do at that point?

Maybe it's just blind hope but I get the feeling the tide is beginning to turn on Trump. His approval numbers are at an all time low, he's miserable and lashing out at everyone, he can't get anything done legislatively, and we finally have a few Republicans speaking out publicly against him. Plus the shadow of Mueller is constantly hanging over his head.
I'm optimistic that he won't last another 6 months. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I hope not.

They would stop him. Those dudes are marines and well respected. If Trump said Fire le Mizzles, they would say don't and it wouldn't happen.
Don't get me wrong, the Constitutional crisis and chain of command would be bonkers at this point, but he can't just flip a nuclear switch. There are people that would have to do it...and those people would listen to themselves, Mattis and/or Kelly.
Mattis and Kelly would not sit idly by if a sitting U.S. President was about to start nuclear WWIII.

What I read between the lines here is that Trump has already talked about nuking someone, and they told him he'd get impeached if he ordered it.

Quite a few people are guilty of that one.
I mean... I know this sounds ridiculous to say out loud (almost as ridiculous as it would have sounded to seriously suggest that Trump would be President a year and a half ago), but a part of me does fear him pressing the button just to spite people. Trump has proven himself time and time again to be an absolute terrible human being with almost no redeeming qualities. I don't think it's absolutely crazy to envision him at the end of his rope with nothing left just saying "fuck it, let's hit North Korea... hell, maybe launch a few towards China and see what happens". It sounds so stupid to say that, but the fact that I'm even capable of thinking something like that scares the fuck outta me. I don't doubt a few of you haven't pictured the same scenario. It's useless fretting, but my god did we really fuck up electing this man to office.

Nine of them can invoke the 25th amendment and remove him from office (if I'm reading it correctly: "Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments")
I can see the following voting to remove him:
Pence
Tillerson
Mattis
Perry
I think that's a solid number to start convincing couple of more Cabinet members to remove Trump from Office.

Pence going to the others and telling them their deregulation agenda won't be impeded at all by booting Trump would easily accelerate this too, IMO. No honor among thieves and all.

Pence was put there by the GOP, not Trump.
Trump had regrets of naming him his VP.
I'm sure the GOP's instructions to Pence were to act loyal and serve as their eyes and ears.
I remember hearing a story from a guy who was in charge of launching the missiles. He said that theres little stopping the president from doing it if he really wanted to.

Yep, I really hope all this stress and discomfort leads to serious health issues and he dies from a massive heart attack. I've never really hated anyone before but I cannot stand this piece of shit.
Carson + Mulvaney as well, maybe even Mnuchin. It's way more feasible if he (or plans to) orders something crazy like a first strike.
