Having played all the Hitman games on console except the first one, I bought the pack because I am in love with the series. That being said, avoid the first game at all cost. I just tried to play it and it is complete garbage. The bundle only saves a couple pennies, so just buy Silent Assassin and Blood Money.

From what I've read, Codename 47 was rough around the edges but it had some truly great ideas, ideas that were better realised and executed with each iteration. I've played all of the other games in the series, and I plan on replaying them (well, at least Silent Assassin and Blood Money) but I am interested to see how it all started, even if Codename 47 looks ghetto and has a janky key wasd key mapping.

Come on guys, haven't we learned? Only buy daily deals. Get Medieval and Rome out of there.

And FarCry 1/2, because 2 boring and frustrating as shit. And 1 hasn't held up well.

Disappointed that Jedi Knight does not run at all.

Why do they even sell it if it doesn't work on a modern operating system?

All i get is a window popup that says something like "unable to load file: (bunch of Japanese letters) It may be missing, already in use, or corrupted."

No help online about it either. Fucking stupid.

Stuff like this should be removed from steam unless the developers fix it.

Is Call of Pripyat better than Shadow of Chernobyl? I only played the latter (or the first chronogically if you prefer) and I quite liked it. What's changed/improved? I don't have the copy of SoC anymore, so I could buy the bundle. Is Blue Sky worth hunting down at some later time?

OMG should I?

Talk me outta something please, maybe I should hold off on the Total War games for something better then 25% off?
I'd skip all the Total War games for now, but yes, especially wait for something better than 25%...

25% off is not nearly good enough. There will always be a better sale down the line for those games. This is steam after all.

Ah the adventure of buying old third party games on Steam, a good rule of thumb is to check out a game or series related forum, it's linked to in the store page, before you buy. Just take a look at what people are talking about, skim the forum topics, see what problems, if any, that they're having and what solutions, if any, there are. You'll save yourself some trouble by walking in to a purchase by being well informed.

I think Valve leaves it up to the publisher/developer to ensure the game works, they don't do any sort of quality control in this regard.

I've had such a mixed experience with older games on Steam that I'm going to start giving Good Old games some of my business, I understand that they ensure all of the games they put up on the store run on modern set ups.

Happy new year everyone :)
New Year Quiz:

I'd gift 1 extra copies of CivCity to someone who thinks they are actually going to play it in the next days. If you are interested, quote me and give 2 examples of games in the same sim sub-genre.

(Except the Caesar Series and Zeus, already mentioned by Datwheezy - already got a copy)

I don't know the game that much but if it's anything like Pharaoh or Emperor I'm sure I'll be playing it in the next few days, those games are amazing.

So is Flight Control fun? Or something that's only interesting until the novelty wears off?
Also how are the Farm Frenzy games? My wife would love them if they are like Farmville.

In regards to Flight Control, depends on how much you enjoy score challenge games. I just got 44 planes, and am in the top 80%, but I dont know how much of a gap there is between that and say, the top 90%. The only thing that bugs me is the same thing with any score attack game is the super slow beginning, but my 44 plane game didnt last more than 5 or so mins, so it doesnt take too long to get up to speed.

Don't buy that 20$ game. That's a handful of other cheap things you can buy tomorrow.

I'd dump Total War and add Flight Control to round it out.

Sure you'll get it. You might want to take a look at the Children of the Nile pack though before the sale ends. Has more intricate supply chains and also only costs 2,99 atm.

Steam ID?

Ok, sounds like consensus is on skipping Total War, especially at that price.

Now I'm just on the fence about Day of Discovery.

Thanks! steam id is mantidor, I have the children of the nile pack from a long time ago, I think I got them the moment they appeared on steam, never could find the game on retail but I wanted it since it was announced, I love this genre.

Then hopefully you picked up Grand Ages:Rome yesterday. Seems to be the most modern outing in that genre. Anyway.. off to gift you the game :)

And success! When I bought the game 4 people in my friends list owned the game and noone played it. Now there are 37 people owning it and 12 that played it already. :lol

Edit: And you need to add me back or I cant gift it.

EVERYONE.
I do now! Controls feel kind of awkward if you've only played Qlive until now - let's see how this turns out after a few sessions :)

Well you basically missed the only other recent (cheap) game. All the other honorable mentions that even exist have been mentioned in this thread I believe. And I would love to get the old Emperor, Caesar, Zeus etc games off steam =(

I get that too, but put it down to the way the textures suddenly load up (and hitting performance as a result).

The Guild 2 any good?

Most definitely but complex to no end. You basically take care of EVERYTHING later in the game. And I mean that. It doesnt have the scale of EU or HoI but damn.. there is a lot of engaging work to do, if you have enough time to bury yourself into that game.

Dawn of Discovery is great. Definitely recommend it if you like city builders.

How does it compare to 1701? Better overall? More user-friendly?

I'm new to the genre as a whole. Last city builder I played was probably Populous or Sim City 2000 many years ago. I want something that looks nice and is easy to get into :)

But $15 isn't ridiculously pricey for a game + expansion so I'm leaning towards get.

There's a tweak for that in the AP thread. The game feels smoother as well.

Curious, anyone know why Clear Sky is not included in the Stalker bundle? Is that game some sort of off-shoot or something?

Did you verify the files? Runs fine for me on w7 32bit.

If anybody doesn't own TF2...

well... I don't think there should be anyone who doesn't own TF2, unless you either have terrible internet, a terrible computer, or just plain hate fun.

Yes or No GAF?

Probably a great set assuming all the Jedi Knight stuff actually works. I bought the pack in some other sale and I remember all the horror stories about missing music and launching problems and stuff.

Empire Total War stinks, Farcry 2 is also (imo anyways) pretty craptacular.
Far Cry 2 is basically the anti-Crysis. You're the perpetual hapless victim in some godforsaken African country and everything and everyone is trying to kill you. Your guns suck, you have malaria, and you're constantly being hunted by packs of armed men in jeeps. It's like a slapstick comedy with one joke and it goes on for about 15 hours.

It's a prequel to the SoC and also considered the weakest entry. Maybe that's why?

Someone also asked how CoP compared to SoC - most people prefer the CoP. Including myself, but it's been years since I've played SoC and I didn't use the complete mod. I'll be going back over both games in the future.

If you can handle a game that doesn't hold your hand, STALKER will be the best purchase you make during this sale.

I bought FC 2, though I'm skeptical on it. Respawning enemies seems like a deal breaker. But we'll see.

15? I played it for over 30 before I finished it, and it was completely and utterly brilliant all the way through.

I wanna pull the trigger on Far Cry 2 or one of the C&C games but I just can't get myself to do it.

Maybe I'll go crazy and grab the SquEnix pack...

Help me, GAF. HELP MEEEE!!!
