I just really hope that they are putting the same amount of care into the game as they did in zelda and mario. In terms of design it's been 10 years since prime 3, so there's a lot of exciting things that they can bring to the table.

Yeah going from the Wii to Switch alone opens many possibilities, even if they stick mostly to the same formula.

though without Retro we dont know how much its going to be impacted, remember they are starting mostly fresh and Retro lost many talented dev after Prime 1 and 2

One thing I will probably adore about this game is the personality present in the worlds. I earlier said the reason I love 3D Mario far more than 2D Mario is how the locations feel so much more fleshed out and unique from each other, and this pushes those buttons.

Was the day/night cycle ever explained for these Kingdoms?

I can't see there being a day and night cycle unless its tied to a mechanic, judging off past mario games. Like, I know we've seen some stages at day and night in the trailers (New Donk City and Sand Kingdom come to mind), but they seemed scenario specific to me at least.

Congrats.

I just not understood the relation between the score and 9 months old.

Even launch games can reveive 10/10 scores... the numbers of games is not limited too.

Technically it's a follow up to Mario 64/Sunshine, in Nintendo's eyes. If anything, 3D Land and World were the sucessors to the Galaxy duology. As told by The Chart™.

3D_Mario_Infograph.jpg

As always when The Chart™ gets brought up I feel compelled to remind people that Nintendo didn't mean it as a "sequel" type, but merely as a comparison in level-structure, with "Course clear" on top and "Miniature garden exploration" on bottom.

Don't be so defensive. The Switch has definitely been worth it for me, but for some people, it's basically Mario, Zelda and a bunch of indy games that are on other platforms. Most folks aren't going to buy a console for Golf Story, no matter how cool it looks. I think the Switch has been great so far, but I can see why others would have a different opinion.

I get your point, but I've seen people who literally have the same mindset as what he described, like I have this friend, well now an acquaintance, who has this "multiplats don't count!" nonsense (which I made a post about "if multiplats don't count especially if they were conceived as multiplats to begin with, do they exist?") and believes the memes of starving gamers and "no other games hence they're successful!"

As always when The Chart™ gets brought up I feel compelled to remind people that Nintendo didn't mean it as a "sequel" type, but merely as a comparison in level-structure, with "Course clear" on top and "Miniature garden exploration" on bottom.

It's eerie when people use it as "faux 3D and real 3D!"

3d land/world should be their own 3rd category as basically being 2d mario with 3d mario gameplay. Galaxy 1/2 are in the middle of the spectrum between sandbox and the 3d series.

Yeah I don't necessarily believe there's a day/night cycle, but it makes me wonder as part of the story we will have to come back to certain Kingdoms at night. We've kind of seen that story element to NDC.

I like how "story" is more involved in each kingdom. It's not just enter Kingdom collect 40 Moons and move on to the next Kingdom until you get to Bowser Land to fight. It seems like you'll come back to Kingdoms due to story elements and maybe open new sections to collect more Moons.

We don't know if
Cap Kingdom or Mushroom Kingdom
actually have moons or not, or if the
lava area
is an actual kingdom with moons, or just a Bowser/boss level.

I don't know what the
lava area
is about, I've never heard of that. Outside of the two you mentioned- which I believe do have moons, but maybe not all that many- I can name 8 more.

Cascade Kingdom
Sand Kingdom
Wooded Kingdom
Lake Kingdom
Metro Kingdom
Snow Kingdom
Luncheon Kingdom
Seaside Kingdom

So basically I have no idea where you got 3-4 from, when all of these have been confirmed already with gameplay shown too.

Ah, that was just a typo. Unrevealed kingdoms, I meant to say. 3~4 MORE kingdoms, beyond what we've seen already.

Oh! Gotcha, that makes more sense.

Yeah I'd also expect 3-4 more that we haven't heard of. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 15 worlds just like in 64. I like round numbers for this type of thing.

I came in here assuming everyone was discussing the review itself, but all we know is still just the number? A 10 should mean about as much as a 7 or 8; it’s all arbitrary imo.

That's what the person your quoting is saying. The person they were replying to said Odyssey is a followup to Galaxy when it's actually a followup to 64/Sunshine.

Quotes from the review were posted a while back but there isn't really all that much to discuss about the review. It kind of just confirms what everyone was already expecting.

15 * 60 would be 900, the number of korok seeds. So there'd have to be generally lower # of moons in worlds, on average, compared to the few that we know, to be under the 900 Korok seeds that are compared to.

If there's a fairly consistent ~70 per world, then the nearest integer # of worlds to be less than Korok seeds is 12 (840).

Oh yeah I totally expect the Sand Kingdom to be more of an outlier on the upper end. I think it might wind up with something like 50 per world on average, which gives you 750 moons. Seems like a decent round number.

I'll honestly be annoyed if it's some crazy number like 823, it's gotta be a round number!

I'm curious to know about the music in this game.

Super Mario 64 and Galaxy 1/2 have some of my favorite music in gaming period.

Jump Up Superstar bodes well for the soundtrack in my opinion. It's gonna be hard to top Galaxy though, yeah.

Yeah, I agree with all of that.

If
Cap Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom
only get populated with Moons later, then it would make sense for them to have fewer moons. But isn't the Metro Kingdom also not populated when you first visit it
(during the nighttime tank fight)
?

True. That song is an antidepressant lol I hope the music is all orchestrated. I like the jazzy themes Mario games sometimes use.

I shouldn't even be spending money on games this month but I'm breaking that rule for SMO.

Speaking of subscriptions, I tried getting one for my library but we couldn't since Edge's publisher doesn't work with the subscription management firm we have for Sarasota county. :(

I really don't know how those types of "events" will work, and I'm kinda happy not knowing for the time being haha

We don't know, we might wind up with one of those each time you first enter each kingdom. I don't know if that would have any bearing on the number of moons.

Did the full review text leak? Or a summary?

Just posted this-

The full text hasn't been posted anywhere yet, so we're discussing what we can. Majora wrote up a good summary a few pages back that we've been discussing too. Possibly spoilers for those that care about secrets:

'The party continues in the postgame too' but no explicit details. There's some kind of spoilery stuff about references to earlier games I won't post here.

not that I was worried but even just having confirmation is making me more hyped than anything else

any fears about challenge have now gone out the window

Any OT that tries to claim Mario Odyssey is the greatest game ever is going to antagonise people. Lets keep fanboy wars out of OT titles.

EDIT: my poor effort

Glad to have confirmation that there's a post game. Not that it was ever in doubt since every Mario since Sunshine had a post game, but it's still nice to have it confirmed.
