Is it terrible that I bought a switch on the spot just because of this review?

Now I'm finally able to play breath of the wild
LOL, did exactly the same! I also bought Mario rabbids, 1-2 switch and Mario kart. This is my first Nintendo system since game cube. Can't wait to start playing BOTW tomorrow.

cool well it's a very different, but still really awesome movie.

the joke doesn't extend past the title so there's really nothing to get beyond that

Like a previous poster stated, a pirate trying to save an unwilling bride from a horrible marriage. Sounds like the plot of Super Mario Odyssey to me.

Super Mario Odyssey |OT| It's just a video game

I really wouldn't go that far. They're as much hubs as Mario 64 levels like Tall Tall Mountain were since that had a little slide level accessed through it. Obviously this seems to be greatly expanded but I still wouldn't consider them to be hubs, really.

Actually I guess there's no real better word for it, but calling NDC a hub is still gonna throw people off, since a lot of people thought it was a pure hub when it was first shown.

A hub is just a centralized location from which you access spokes. I don't think Mario 64 examples work that well because at most they feature 1 sub area each and a hub should have more than that. Odyssey's worlds feature tons of sub areas to the point I think that most of the content is in sub areas.

Nah, I'd argue SMO has no hubs or hub. Each level is just packed with sub-levels, but none are a hub. A hub is more like Isle O' Hags, or Delfino Plaza.

The Princess Bride is the clear winner so that means whoever does the OT will ignore it and create their own title and everyone will be irritated. Such as GAF does

This game looks so bland . From this point any Mario game where he doesn't carry a blaster and smack giant rabbids with a hammer is just boring and old.
Odysses doesn't even have Rabbid Peach -the greatest gaming character of all time- , it just has the old- boring Peach.
Hard pass.

Anyone have any guesses on how much EDGE is exaggerating with the Moon to Korok Seed comparison? They said something like, "Link has more Korok Seeds to collect than Mario has Moons, but not by much"

Does that suggest something like 50 less, 100 less, or like 300 less?

Good choice with Rabbids, that game is just pure joy to play. I'd say it's just as much of a must-play as Mario Kart and Splatoon, just under BotW and (likely) Odyssey.

Is this the first year in recent memory when the Nintendo GOTY vote is likely to be split?

I’m looking forward to trying Mario out for myself to see how it compares to the hype. Zelda was a slam dunk purchase for me long before review buzz kicked in, both because it’s my favorite Nintendo series and because it was legitimately innovative in a bunch of interesting ways. Was it my favorite game of the year? It’s certainly a contender.

I’ve been more skeptical of Mario though I know the game has a legion of devotees who will love it. Sadly, for me the series suffered a poor transition from the early 3D era to more modern consoles. Narrative hooks have felt bolted on and detracted from the games more then they added to them. New gameplay ideas have been hit-and-miss. Even so, I haven’t missed a mainline entry and prefer to go into this one relatively blind to form my own opinion.

I just won’t be shocked if my favorite Mario game this year is from Ubisoft.

Super Mario Odyssey |OT| My Big Hat Italian Wedding

I'm sure it'll be good, even if it's not 10/10 good or whatever. I do wonder if the throwback worlds will be as cool as the one in Galaxy 2.
