Hurricane Ophelia |OT| Ireland's GAF gets windy

Eh, I've always found the cultures that can take an event like this in their stride deserve some props. Bad things are going to happen, nothing can really be done but prepare now. No harms in keeping some smiles in the meantime

It's dumb. Just like now reports on RTE News of people walking along the Salthill prominade and even some swimming in the sea. Some people are stupid.

We've had a death already, thousands without power and major structural damage to homes and businesses. But yeah, let's hear more about you getting a BJ. Christ!

If you want to hear more I can certainly oblige!

Couldn't agree more. See post above.

Oh. So that's why the sun looks like it is. Finished replaying VLR last night and had no idea about the storm, opening my curtains and seeing a red visible object in the sky wasn't what I needed first thing.

Stay safe Ireland.

That got me chuckling.

The piss filter for the England skymap has been on all day here. Just a bit windy, I think it is due to pick up this evening. Stay safe Ireland-Gaf!

It could still be bad for the mainland too. Hearing unconfirmed reports the eye has strengthened and it's been upgraded to a hurricane again. We just finished cancelling every single hospital appointment for this afternoon so people are being urged to stay indoors.

I made it all the way into work on public transport only to be told "hey the office is closed and Dublin Bus are shutting down at 10. You should go home." Wish I was emailed ahead of time, but I don't have access to work email outside work anyway. Oh well... Storms' just getting started here in Dublin.

Stay safe all.

It was warm and sunny as I left Belfast at 12, as I drove home it got progressively Carl's and the wind really picked up. Home now and it's all good at Norn Ireland's sunshine coast.

Damn, a hurricane in Ireland? I didn't even know it's possible for hurricanes to get all the way up to Europe.

They can't, yet. The waters still aren't warm enough, though Climate Change will see to that soon enough.

Ophelia isn't a hurricane anymore, it's a post-tropical cyclone.

Ophelia still has hurricane-force winds, will still be incredibly disruptive and destructive, should still be taken seriously. But it's not a hurricane anymore.

Oh yeah? Northern England going to get some cuddling by chance? Please say it's so!

Highlands GAF look like they'll get the worst of it from the predicted path it will take today. Here it peaks in a few hours with 50mph winds. I've got no where to be thankfully, so I'll just watch it unfold from my window.

Bit windy out. Brother who lives nearby has lost power but we're still good for now. Hope it stays that way.

They usually turn into cyclones by the time they reach us in Europe, its still a pretty big shitshow for those of us in North East in Spain and our friends in the UK.

If it ever it is a hurricane category itd be disastrous.

It has turned really orange now. Actually discovered a weird but neat effect where if I try to take a picture, the image on my phone shows everything crystal clear as if it were a regular day.

Stuck inside, just downloaded Stardew Valley so I'll just have a cosy day. I hate being trapped in the house but I don't want to risk shit flying into my head

My mum is in waterford. It was warm with blue skies this morning that She was tempted to go to the beach. Jesus! We talked her out of it.

She is safe but said it's gotten very scary outside. She still has power which is good. Lost her wheelie bin earlier and had to fight to get it back.

Stay safe Irish Gaf. Try to stay indoors.

Got sent home one hour before the work day ended. Bastards.

Damn, why did you have to work anyway?
E.g., Blizzard closed the office for today and even released employees half a day early on paid leave (yesterday), so they could prepare for the storm.

Enjoy the queue, Versailles! ;)

Power is out in North Cork City.
Friends in Cobh saying a 13 year old girl is missing apparently.

Winds have calmed a good bit though.

The strange light quality has made the day feel really ominous and oppressive.

Very sad to hear about Sean Hughes' passing. I saw his show at the Edinburgh Fringe the year he won the Perrier.

Super dark in Dundee. We are meanto to get pretty stormy through the night tonight. Nothing like you guys over in Ireland but still windier than usual. I imagine a few wheely bins and trees will be blown over, hopefully my trampoline stays where it is in the back garden.

It is getting pretty fierce here in Bray. I thought the tree outside was coming down a few minutes ago. Rip to the woman in Waterford.

I was thinking the precautions were a bit much but I've been proved very wrong looking at the videos of roofs flying all over the place.

Any word on what time they're taking the roads in?

Storing them in the warehouse as we speak.

So it's 3pm and everything is orange as fuck in west London right now........kinda surreal.

It's like living under Codemasters notorious piss filter that made all yheir early F1 games yellow.
