Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

I'm done on the first year, and I'm having fun. Upgraded the Barn and Coop to level 2, upgraded the house, bought a horse, ready to marry Emily, and unlocked some Community Center stuff.

Haven't experienced the crash bug, but I encounter the sound bug when playing docked.

An easy thing she likes are tree fruits. Also Daffodil if you are on spring.

Ah nuts I just started Summer. Might have a few saved.

I don't have any fruit trees yet. Started growing an apple tree but it's taking ages.

Summer music is best music. So upbeat and happy!

What is up with Haley? We had a few events where we seemed like we were getting close, and now she's all like "you're... Ventara, right?"

More data on my fridge crash! I started that day again and, I'm pretty sure, did all the same stuff except for not using the kitchen in any way, and it saved fine. But I still had a quest to give someone some sashimi, so the next day I risked it. I already had a fish in my personal inventory, and the recipe used that instead of my storage. Then... I accidentally gave it to the wrong person. Back to the kitchen.

After I made the second sashimi, with fridge fish this time*, I went back to the fridge and auto-sorted the contents... and that left a mysterious empty slot between two of the items! So I hit the auto-sort button again, and it put things in some slightly different order, and the empty slot went away. I pushed it a few more times but never got the empty slot again. Since then, I've added a few more items to the fridge, and auto-sorted after adding new types of items and not bothering when just adding more to an existing stack, and the game saves just fine on this pattern.

*EDIT: I forgot to mention, the fish it used was one I had only one of (a silver star carp). I guess that's the slot the game was preserving on the first auto-sort.

EDIIT: That may be why it also occurs when people leave their tools to be upgraded? If that's happened to you, did you notice whether that inventory slot stayed empty when you went to sleep, or anything like the above? Try auto-sorting a couple of times.

As great as stardew valley is there are some emersion breaking moments where you're reminded one dude made the game.

With the depth of content on display elsewhere in the game, I think it just highlights what the dev's priorities were and what his skills are. It is a shame though, as it makes socializing not that rewarding. My favourite moment so far was
playing Journey of the Prairie King with Abigail.
I wish there were more interactive moments like that.

has this been posted yet?
https://www.polygon.com/2017/10/11/...ey-nintendo-switch-sleeping-save-crash-glitch

There are two things that need to happen in order to cause the crash:

At least one of the following core tool items must not be in your inventory when you sleep: Pickaxe, Axe, Hoe, Watering Can, Scythe. If you have the Return Scepter, that counts too.

At least one of your chest-like containers must have a gap between two items. This includes chests you've crafted, the fridge in the farmhouse upgrade, and the containers on the Mill and Junimo Hut buildings. It doesn't include the chests that spawn every 10 levels in the mines.

The crash happens when the game scans your inventory and chests to make sure none of your tools are missing. When it encounters a gap in the chest, it causes an error. The PC and other console versions are able to handle the error and keep running, however the Switch version cannot.
That said, it's surprisingly not very easy to create a gap in a chest. Simply adding or removing items from a chest automatically removes all the gaps. There are only two ways we know of:

With the house upgrade that provides the kitchen, cook some food that uses ingredients in the fridge. That can create a gap in the fridge.
keep your chests and fridges sorted and you should be fine, it seems.

I'm in Year 1. I really want that Stardrop Fruit for 2000 Star Coins at the Fair. But there is no way. Do Star Coins save year-over-year? I could buy it in another year, maybe.

Take all of your coins and bet it on the spinner game. Bet on green. Just keep betting half your money until you have enough to buy everything at the store

Do the actual event and win. You will get 1000 coins, then you can bet them to win more

I actually won all my coins to buy all the items from the fishing game. It took an hour. I then proceeded to finish the judging event and won the 1000 star coins but at that point, they were useless to me because I had bought every item already..

Pro tip:
The "Green" part of the betting wheel has a 75% chance of winning. If you win the event first, and then place 50% of your earnings on green each time you'll have all the points you need to buy everything in way under 5 minutes.

Yeah, the fishing sucks though. I managed to get ~400 coins from one go, and then ~140 for the rest... before it glitched out on me when I tried to cancel a poor rod and the gmae got stuck with me standing there aimlessly. Then I restarted and found out about the above =P

Started the game since last week. Did as much of everything as I can during first spring, which may have been a rookie mistake on my part, but a learning experience. Halfway through, I got a proper rhythm down and managed to prioritize what to do and how much, mostly depending on weather.

Now it's Summer, and I made a modest field with all of the available seasonal crops, with Blueberries being the focus. Got enough materials to make tappers, recyclers, furnaces and a couple of preservatives.

I also made a couple of sprinklers and set up a few flowers with two bee houses for honey. I definitely want to get better sprinklers to lessen the time/energy needed to do the watering myself.

I can show a picture of the place later.

I was visited by Demetrius about
choosing between Mushrooms and Fruit Bats for that one cavrle. I chose the former; was that the wrong call?

Mushrooms as you can't grow them on your farm the way you can fruits on trees/in the green house. Mushrooms also spawn a lot more frequently where as fruit bats are pure rng.

be a betting man
green has a 75% chance of winning. give yourself enough room to double up if you lose.

Why is it essential?

It helps salving energy and time to do other things instead of spending hours watering crops everyday. You can do without it if you want, but it is a very, very good investment nonetheless.

Specs:

Copper = Water 3 tiles
Iron = Water 5 tiles
Gold = Walter 9 tiles
Iridium = 18 tiles.

Watched reviews and I’m not sure if I’d like this game. It’s cheaper than I thought it’d be so I’m tempted. I also heard there’s some things you should do early on in the game to make it better or easier? I actually don’t know much about this game beyond that it’s highly regarded and I’m open to trying it out.

::sigh:: Reading about this game just makes me want another Rune Factory. I miss that series.

Me too. The farming in RF4 was the most deep and involving in the genre so far. If they just had sprinklers and/or trenches like Tale of two towns, it would be amazing.

don't forget to press and hold the button to get the benefit

I forgot to do this until Iridium level

also put pavement under you sprinkler so you don't dig them up when charging hoe

Just finished Golf Story - onto my next pick up for the Switch!

Couple questions:

I am basically going into this 100% blind. Is this a good thing or am I going to feel so overwhelmed?

Can I die?

Possible to be polyamourous?

It will take forever to 100% it blind because the events repeat only once per year, and some have very specific requirements that by trial and error will take forever to figure out

Okay, I guess the question is -

Is this game like Animal Crossing where its real time?

Is this game like Minecraft where its open ended?

It's not real time like animal crossing. Each ingame day is like 15 minutes IRL.

You can go on forever if you want but it's not as open as minecraft. If you miss something there's always next year.There are people on youtube who are in year 40 or something.

There's dungeon crawling-lite but it's not game over if you die.

Awesome. I guess the question is - Im really looking to just relax and play - is it possible to relax and play if I play blind or will it be impossible/frustrating?

I will say that with Minecraft - its kinda impossible to play if you dont know crafting recipes.

Don't worry. It's not nearly as open ended as Minecraft. It's very relaxing and, while you might not be super efficient in the beginning by going blind, ultimately it doesn't matter. You will discover stuff by yourself just by playing the game, which is part of the fun.

Lol same. I thought the event ended after you were judged.
