Gran Turismo SPORT | OT | Putting it all on the line

So I've only done one Sport race in the Beta last week and 1 with the retail. Am i always going to have to wait at least 15 mins? :(

Family man w/ kids and all that, so time is limited

What's your "favourite" car time?
I know there are different classes and so on, but everyone should have the get go car so far for a quick arcade race etc..
Mine is the GT-R currently. Love dem sound.

Ferrari 458 Gr.4. That car on Suzuka is a pretty great experience. On Maggiore it's sublime. And the sound...

Alfa Romeo 4C. Lightweight, mid-engined, RWD. Closest thing we've got to a Lotus Elise in the game. The sublime weight shifting of that car is the only thing that made Brands Hatch bearable. Now that we're stuck with a Civic, well...let's just say I've been getting to know Suzuka really well.

(I guess I just love mid-engined cars)

Driving backwards on the track hehe, I luckily haven't seen any of those in GTS so far. Are you in E SR hell?

I've seen a few driving backwards in warm-up, not during the race. But as I mentioned earlier, you don't have to be in E to get E drivers. Apparently PD is okay with them trying to ram cars off the road in C rank races.

Blergh, C SR is even worse than B.

Meh, it's really putting me off the online.

Agreed. I think the only answer is DQ for those that just can’t rid themselves of their inner redneck. Put a low threshold on penalty seconds, amount of collisions, speed limits at certain parts of tracks, amount of time spent off track etc.

Let them continue the race as a ghost but no rewards for being a douche.

I was in B, thought I did decently, and now I'm in C. LOL Feels like I'm often getting penalized for things that are not my fault. Brands Hatch with 20+ CTRs and only 4 laps is not very fun either. Suzuka is great though. Lots of opportunities to improve position.

If races are every five minutes why was I waiting 8 and 10 minutes for my races last night?
It's like that right now. It gives the illusion of races happening every 5 minutes because the three on offer are spaced 5 minutes apart, but you can have situations where you finish one and the next one doesn't start for another 10 minutes. Probably just due to how each race is spaced and how long each individual one takes. It's kind of annoying, especially if there are events you don't like.

Well I dont like the Civic and the Circuit. Not much choice for me I guess.

I have to say i really like the game.. but online racing is as expected. Only if you are on the first positions you can have a clean race. As soon as you start above the 5th, most people just don’t care if they hit someone.

It’s difficult to adress i suppose.

Ah ok. Well that kind of blows because there are only two races right now I’d even consider and really it’s just Suzuka at this point. Once you lay down a decent qualifier it’s annoying to wait ten minutes to race. Now if the “dailies” rotated more I’d need that time to qualify...

Lol - of course C is worst than B - C is people that were in B that were in accidents, etc so what do you expect?

And for anyone still saying to themselves "I don't understand why I get penalized for other people hitting me." Here's what to do - pay attention to people in front but more importantly pay attention to people behind you. If you have someone that is obviously faster than you or a late-braker just let them pass when you can. For me it seems 7 times out of 10 they end up wrecking themselves later either alone or with another car so you can easily get that spot back and possible 1 more. I've been doing that and I've been getting blue B's consistently... even in a couple races where I rub up against another car and get a brief negative SR.

Yeah, variety in Sport mode is severely lacking IMO. I know there are arguments for the less is more approach, and that it encourages improvement by refining performance with the same car/track combo, but if this mode is what PD is really pushing, it needs to be more robust. Anyway, it's still just the first week, so I'm trying to keep things in perspective. :)

Yep, I was one of the people initially thinking it was ridiculous to think the dailies wouldn't actually rotate daily, but boy was I wrong. I apologize to anyone I may have said was being ridiculous. They need to start changing at least one of the races on a daily basis to keep things fresh. I've been focusing on the campaign while I wait but I'd much prefer to be racing new Sports races.

Yeah, it's unbelievable how you can make such an decision in an Online focused Game. Especially after the Beta had daily rotations.

I really wonder if it's Driveclub style server issues in the early days. I wonder if they really are aiming for dailies for quick dynamic fun, weeklies for the more serious players and then monthly large scale tournaments. I can even see per class dailies so whether you wan to go slow or hyper fast, there's something there everyday to keep it fresh. It makes too much sense not to do it. Especially if they want a long term player base. That said, they've always been weak on this aspect, the online, community maintaining aspect, and they always are very slow and poor at reacting and responding to the playerbase.

And all of this just makes me want Sony to send Evolution guys a check for 2 days worth of work on a Pro patch.

I’m enjoying my time with the game but I am hoping PD have looked at how Ubi handled Siege with consistent content updates and a robust competitive scene. This game could become something I’ll play solidly for years if they handle it right because right now it really is light on content.

I did not mean it to be snarky, sorry if it came across that way, meant it to be more lighthearted.

Anyway, just play it safe and avoid everyone for a couple races and you should be back up in SR B in no time.

Ah okay, no problem.

Hopefully so. I've taken a break anyway since I was getting annoyed. No point playing when tilted.

How do I improve daily race qualifying times. I set a shitty time yesterday and it keeps making me use it even though I'm setting much faster times now.

Mine is the GT-R currently. Love dem sound.

N:. 86 GRMN
B: Quatro but don't like rally in the game
Gr4: GT-R.
Gr3: 911
Gr1: 919
X: kart

911 and 919 are my favourite overall especially in VR but will usually pick the 919. the m4(Gr4) and m6(Gr3) are also great. Will probably change when I get a few million more.

Great, got down to C Safety rating because of people not knowing the first thing about how to race. I get the comments saying that you can avoid a lot of problems.
But seriously try to start 18th of 24 on brands hatch indy in a stock civic where eveybody drives at least 2 seconds slower than you. No avoiding anything then.

Back to the campaign until these not registering qualy time issues are fixed -_-

Are you setting them by clicking on the "Entry √" choice or are you clicking the Qualifying Trial (or whatever the Qualifying button says)? Because the latter is simply to practice, on the Entry qualifying times count towards the race.

EDIT:
How do you get a custom livery to show up on sport mode? It only lets me pick default colours.

Only Sports races that use your garage cars will show your custom liveries. I don't believe any of the current Sports races are garage car races.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

My experience as well.

In the mid or back pack there is no escaping the amount of people taking too heavy of a risk to edge their position leading to reckless driving and eventual bumping, which can either be punishing to your clean rank(even as a victim) or put you even further back trying to dodge these savages at an even slower pace.

I suppose time will even it out, especially when people gravitate to bigger upcoming releases.

Tried both get stuck with my shitty time so I'm 16th when I could be as high as second then I get FUTA by the noobs and my rating goes to shit.

Just hit "A" SR, so I'm ... "D A" right now.

Found some new nonsense in Sport mode, though. I spent ten minutes qualifying for the 300 Brands Hatch race (again) ... twice. Got a 58 second time, both times.

Guess what? It didn't count. I got put on the grid in 23rd place, both times, behind a guy with a 1'10" time.

At least I didn't get rear-ended that time.

Still shows me as having no qualifying time for that race.

Damn, if that's all I had to worry about in C rank, I'd be fine. Try: people trying to use you like a cushion in turns, people trying to actively ram you off the road, people repeatedly ramming into the back of you because they want to go balls-out on every bit of the track. I mean, my main concern in races right now is not "who brakes early" but "who is a sociopath."

Yeah a week on 3 races is tough.

I don't really agree with argument that it gives people time to learn the event and get better. Technically it's true but that's not how people want to play.

The casual audience will play their couple hours a night and be good to move onto something else the next day.

The hardcore audience will put in plenty of time to get dozens of races in. Plus there's a good chance they're already proficient in most track/class combinations.

I don't think the current setup is good for anybody.

Am i missing a trick here? Test 38...Internediete...Driving school. Im 20 secs off best in world, 10 secs down on my friends leaderboard time?

Screw the Sport mode scheduling. Even in the closed beta they cycled the races every day, and they seem to have gone out of their way to do a wide range of races in the open beta. This is not how you make a good immediate impression with your product. I take it there's been no actual statement from anyone at Sony or PD on this?

Stick with it. Look at it this way-- It could always be like that like in a lot of other racers, or you can try to play your cards carefully for awhile and eventually end up with races as clean as you're willing to put in throughout the entire field. Starting new players at B seems like it's been overly generous and perhaps C might have been better.

I did the one after but its not added my time to the leaderboards. This might explain the previous...i defo did a better time as i didnt change tyres, but the time didn't appear on leaderboards...

No, both ways count towards setting a qualifying time. Entry just means that you can do a qualifying session right until the timer reaches zero and be taken automatically to the race.

What is the event about? Not on the game right now, but with some more details I might be able to help you out.

I've got Suzuka down to 56.1 seconds and the games forcing me to use 1.05 minutes.

Annoying bug especially when staying away from the head bangers is important.

I swear to God if I get side swiped from behind by a twat going too fast for a corner one more time and get red arrowed in going to put me foot through the tv.
