Dead Space Remake |OT| Dead Face lift

Ps5 runs at 900 something p resolution upscaled to 1440p 60fps in performance, 1200p upscaled to 4k in quality. they did fix the image quality issues it had on release. Traversal stutter is present on consoles and PC but its very minimal.
I already got the ps5 version. Not played yet.
Thanks.
900p sounds tragic lol

900P...are you serious?, does it look fine though? that sounds incredibly low. I was going to pick up on console too.

On a 1440p screen it looks quite good, other than alpha effects like blood sprays or holograms where you can tell they render lower. I would have never guessed the actual pixel count was below 1080p had I not known. I mean, that's the whole point of reconstruction techniques like DLSS and FSR. I'd say it's working as intended.

How’s the PC version now? I’ve finished RE4 Remake and now don’t know what to do with myself and I loved the original Dead Space.

I watched some videos on the traversal stuttering and just normal gameplay and I can barely notice it.
I'm on my second playthrough and personally I think it really detracts from an otherwise perfect experience. Immersion is so important in Dead Space. I'm running it on lower end hardware, but it seems to affect everyone regardless of specs. If it weren't for the performance issues, I'd rate the game higher than RE4 Remake which runs great in comparison.

I'd go PC version and refund it if it bothers you.

I’m on chapter 4 atm, taking my time backtracking and looking for nodes.

Perfect remake. I realize now how much I’ve actually missed this franchise, it comes across as even more crazy that it’s been dormant for almost a decade. Perfect balance of tension and action (even though I quickly remembered how necromorphs work and where to look for them when you hear the encounter music start playing).

I really really hope Motive will get to do the sequel and/or new games. They’ve done an excellent job with this. It’s gonna be really interesting to see the NG+ as well. I’ve got nothing but praise to give, it’s fucking awesome.

Edit: The sound design is also stellar. It was really good in the original too IIRC but it feels like they have more layers of sound. My favorite so far is the room with all the electricity hitting specific parts of the floor with regular intervals (I think the first time you come across it is in Chapter 3 or 4) The sound in itself is distorted and loud af but at times it morphs into sounding almost like a necromorph. It makes it really hard to make out wether enemies are spawning which freaks you out in a simple but clever way.

I also love Dead Space 3. Don't really understand the hate... Playing it on the hardest difficulty with a controller was a blast. I have some weak memories about a side quest where a guy said "i'm sorry" at the end before all hell broke loose... Great stuff 💪😈

Is the pc version playable yet with nvidia graphics cards? It has been crashing for months after a particular driver update.

NVIDIA blames dead space and motive but motive haven't said a word or patched the game since launch aka abandoned it.

Tested the game yesterday on RTX 3080Ti, solid native 4K 30 FPS (locked via Riva Tuner) experience with maxed out settings. There's still traversal stutters here and there when you enter some rooms though, but these will never get fixed, you can only brute force through them with more powerful CPUs. The game was last updated.... almost 4 months ago? There were drivers that managed to make the game crash a lot, but it's fixed now.

Yeah I've recently been playing it since nvidia fixed the problem.

I prefer 4k@60fps with TAA on my 4090

I tried the 4k@120hz dlss quality which does hit 120fps the majority of the time but I'd have preferred dlaa.

Wow

Just got this game on GamePass and it is fucking AWESOME. Can't believe I never got into it on the PS3/360 era, but the visuals just kinda bored me then.

The remake really brings everything alive. Atmosphere is fantastic.

Hope this team gets to work on a proper sequel. Sucks that Callisto was a dud in comparison. Wonder why that is because the original Dead Space is so good.

If you liked The Callisto Protocol, you should really like Dead Space.

I wonder what you'll think going from the technically newer game to the older one.

Played for an hour this morning on GamePass. Never played any of the games. This seems amazing. Does anyone know if they are planning on remaking the other two? There are 3, right?

Finally got round to playing this on Series X. The game defaults to performance mode. Have to say, framerate has been solid. Visually, it’s good though it can be a little soft looking. I’m having fun so far, I was a big fan of the original.

Really enjoyed it, binged the whole game Friday on my day off. Probably still my favorite horror game. I did enjoy Callisto but the Audio in Dead Space is so much more better. Still moment creeped me out.

To me, the original feels better to control. The movement, aiming and sound are superior as well. The remake is ok but if you have the option, play the original.

The pacing in dead space is really good. Similar to re4 in that regard. It’s hard to put down once your into it. Dead space remake, re4 remake and Alan wake 2. We eating good this year. Hopefully silent hill 2 remake next year will continue the trend…..

Loved the original, but something feels off here. Is it just me or does it now take more hits to ‘cut off their limbs’? Enemies really feeling like bullet sponges.

I also don’t remember the original being so dark!

60fps is (as always) welcome though.

I didnt find that myself. Though I was playing on one of the lower difficulty settings - I'm a big scaredy cat though

Just a reminder to everyone at least on xbox the sound defaults to stereo instead of 5.1.

Sequel will not exist because you are playing this on gp

Oh brother, for all you know the extra cash from MS will put it over the top for a sequel.
You acting like game developers don't get paid for gamepass games in any meaningful way is just wrong.

And you act like gp is not a grave for games.
They didn’t make money selling the game, sure as fuck Microsoft didn’t pay a lot to put it in gamepass.

If game has to end in gamepass, it means it sold very poorly.

Waiting for Forspoken on PS Plus with that logic

Enemy limbs were reworked, they shred mass with each hit, skin, flesh then bone, they're tougher. It didn't feel like bullet spongey to me since you can see and feel the impact of each hit and how it tears them apart.

Sorry, didn’t even notice this had been reworked. I’m too busy shitting myself and firing off a volley of shots to notice such details! 😂

It's an EA Game. Every major EA game goes to EA Play, which is included in Game Pass Ultimate.

Every Ea game is on gamepass, so that's out the window. Plus there is tons of games that launched on gamepass, which means they took a big cash payout instead of potential sales, so acting like it's a graveyard makes no sense. There's also a ton of great third party games that sold well that just want a cash and pr boost at the end of thier life cycle. So no, being on gamepass does not = sold poorly.

I tried playing this game and it's just not my thing... Too many jump scares and stuff making noises, it makes me nervous but for some wrong reason, I'd rather have something more like cosmic or psychological horror instead of it being so direct and over the face... I really hate strong noises so maybe that has to do with it... Game stutters like a mf so be wary of any of you is delicate with it too, if playing on PC

I'm curious which you'll think is the better horror game when you're done. Try to let us know.

Just beat Dead Space. What a masterpiece. I think it’s the most cohesive game of the horror genre and the ship design is rad.

The visuals and sound were superb. The image is soft, but everything looks like a smooth CG filmic look, similar to Killzone 2. Extremely atmospheric and consistent throughout.

The weapons and gore are expertly designed, with each one featuring unique gameplay use cases and the ability to experiment given the fantastic variety of enemies. The upgrades and powers in this game are nicely done, with some metroidvania aspects to the looting.

The lore is really fantastic as well. I wish they made more games like this, 15 hour adventures that are singularly focused and intentional in all aspects of the design; not bogged down and bloated.

I may put this above RE4 remake, it’s that good. As a horror game it certainly is, the tension is off the charts. It even gave me some Souls vibes with its encounters all feeling like you could be taken down by careless mistakes.

Only negative I have is the ending seemed unresolved and the loot in this game was too scarcely given out so I felt restricted in where I placed my upgrades, sadly. Would have much preferred it so that doing all the side missions made upgrading everything way more frequent earlier in the game.

I hear dead space 2 is even better?! Man I really hope they remake it as well

Btw this is a game I never played originally because it was so ugly imho…really boring, flat, and gray/brown looking.

Just like demons souls…the visual upgrades make a massive difference here, and the scenery is much more colorful and dynamic

I do put it above Resident Evil 4 Remake. I agree with everything you've said here, except for the resources part; I think it's important reduce moments of making the player feel powerful, since it's supposed to be survival horror.

I don't know if Dead Space 2 is better, but it's definitely just as good. It is different though. I like to liken it to the Alien movies. Dead Space 1 is to Dead Space 2 as Alien is to Aliens.
