They seem depressed, not surprising if they’re Xbox fans I guess, everything is falling apart. Sony is pulling all the right strings right now. MS needs to pull the plug and start over with an exaggerated beast or they could just forget about another generation.

Microsoft has stopped giving a shit about Xbox hardware, they just want out at this point.
Maybe but they do talk about another generation so it’ll be awhile before they’re fully out.

It’ll be interesting to see what they’ll have in the next one. If the Series X silicone was decided in 2016 like DF says we’re talking about 4 years from decision to launch. Means they might’ve decided on ”Series 2” in 2022 if they go with a similar dev time for a 2026 launch as rumoured.

Sony has been pushing for ML image reconstruction for years but DF will be DF.

What? Where they used it?

Microsoft was talking about using ai part in Xbox series for ML and image reconstruction but they didn't do anything with it (so far).

It's interesting how much Sony adds to and even influences AMD's future GPU roadmaps with the added work they do

I wonder how much graphics chops they would have as an independent apart from customizing AMD's

It would be amazing to see but the production cost would be astronomical for Sony...

It makes much more sense to work in conjunction with AMD

Sony has been beating MS in everything so this isn't really surprising. There isn't a single area in gaming right now where you can objectively say MS is ahead of Sony.
First party studios.

"But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War: Ragnarok and Marvel Spider-Man 2."

laugh it up 🤣

MS has been sitting on the bench as 3rd string since the OG Xbox., they will never win globally. All they want nowadays is Game pass, Game Pass, Game pass.

Yeah I'm just curious how much of a graphics house they have in-house, regardless of feasibility as a standalone. They were going to do an in-house GPU with Toshiba for the PS3 but we all know how that went, but their additions to AMD GPUs since then have been interesting and the two even work together on future pipelines, so it's interesting that Sony who doesn't make GPUs has something to add to an expert company like AMD

Spider-Man MM/2.
Oh, image reconstruction? No idea.
This maybe?

This doesn't have anything to do with image reconstruction like dlss or xess, I thought that is what we were talking about.

And they didn't deliver but they were the first to talk about this on consoles.

I know DF likes Microsoft because they give them great access, but they need to see the writing on the wall here. It's likely the end for Microsoft consoles and they're not going to sink R&D resources into it the way Sony is.
It has nothing to do with DF and MS access, it's ok to ask questions regarding these issues. And Honestly it is surprisingly giving MS huge focus on Ai , MS totally dropped the ball here, they had all the recipe for success or at least to go toe to toe with Sony but I have to imagine they are completely incompetent.

I mean, even tho Sony has been doing streaming games years before MS, they also one upped MS with cloud gaming.

It is what it is.
Pretty sure sony uses Microsoft tech for cloud gaming.

They don't.

But on other areas:

Sony Honda Automotive Brand to Use Microsoft AI, CES 2024
  • But this was a mere stunt and the real depth of its presentation was confirmation of the latest developments to the EV program.
  • Arguably the most significant is a deal with Microsoft to use its Azure OpenAI service to power a conversational agent in the car.

Never happened. They use AWS at the moment.

All those critics about why MS isn't releasing a AI upscaling based machine could be applied to Sony.

Why would MS didn't think about releasing a mid-gen machine with TOPs power to do AI upscaling right now when they could? Why would they need to do that years after Sony? Alex says Sony saw how valid was DLSS solution for videogames, why MS didn't realize it? Didn't they release a mid-gen machine 4 years after XB1 last time with more compute and async? Why not releasing a mid-gen machine 4 years later (this year) with TOPs capabilities enough for AI upscaling?

Imagine being Microsoft. Home to one of the very largest gaming audiences in the world: Windows users. But you don’t give a shit about this. No. You want to build this functionally gimped spin-off gaming platform. Enter Xbox. You spend billions trying to figure out how many features to cut from Windows to cram it into a small underpowered box that needs constant software maintenance and a huge team of people to manage the feature cutting. You start with the original Xbox, and you slowly start spoon feeding the Windows features back to the Xbox customers with hardware iterations. We’re up to the Xbox Series iteration now, and with this trajectory I estimate we could reach Windows XP level functionality by 2045.

I honestly would love an exaggerated beast to test the market .. try something different... what they have to loose honestly? ... ... this "prime" console market has not been prime for long enough
