New Ridge Racer Vita trailer

Ridge Racer for PSP was a staggeringly impressive showcase at the time, and it held up favorably compared to its nearest rival Wipeout Pure. Now it seems Wipout 2048 will eat this alive when Vita launches in the West.

Pure was 30fps originally and then 60fps after the FW update unlocked 333mhz. RR was 60fp fromm the start.

The vita entries of both franchises are 30 fps this time :(

But 2048 looks out of this world good.

Anyway I'm still hypppped, RR over Wipeout for me, at least at launch.

Thought it was 60fps until this thread proved me wrong :( shame. It looks a LOT like RR one the PS360 which is good for a portable though. Interesting to hear all the hype for the wipeout.. (goes to youtube)

I found the fact that RR PSP was 60fps amazing when people were discussing RR 3DS pre-3DS launch. I still find it amazing, since at the time RR was a graphical showcase for PSP's launch and looks almost as good as the 3DS game that came out 5-6 years later.

RR for Vita is NOT a graphical showcase, it seems, but it runs at 30fps. For shame.

Wow. First they release a shitty looking 3DS game at 30FPS, and then the follow up with a Vita game that also looks mediocre for the system it's on and only runs at 30FPS. Looks like one franchise is going downhill...

I wonder if there will be any console in the future that won't have a Ridge Racer when comes out.

Wii didn't get one IIRC. Wii U probably won't either.

The PSP game looks better than the 3DS one BY FAR! They put no effort into the 3DS game at all.

That means they still have a month right? :(

Isn't there a Cellius dev on Twitter or something? Someone should ask that person if it'll be 60 fps!

er...wasn't the original PSone version of RR only 30fps? I thought only the 'hi spec' version on a bonus disc with a later game had a 60fps version of the first track?

Just watched the trailer, not that impressed: I expected much better visuals to showcase the Vita tech, but this doesn't look much better than the Ridge Racer title that I got when the PSP launched.

Not getting a Vita for a while and wont get this when I do.
Instead i just bought RR Type 4 + RR1 High Spec Demo + Jogcon for good measure off Ebay :)

It isn't 3D no deal! Seriously, Ridge Racer 3DS is the shit go get it.

... why do i get this feeling that this is a horrible glimpse into the future of handheld console wars?

I dunno about that. The car models look much better.

Not getting a game just because it's not 60fps is pretty stupid.

We all know it would be better at 60 (and if it ends up being 60, cool), but 30fps is still playable as long as there are no framerate inconsistencies.

The actual question is if the game is any good.

Yes!

All of the PSone series apart from hi-spec were 30fps.

So then, how many RR games were actually 60fps. Just thought it'd be worth asking, considering everyone is getting in a fuss about this not being, as though its a staple of the franchise..

RR - 30fps
RRR - 30fps
Rage - 30fps (love you Rage)
Type 4 - 30fps
RR64 (N64) - I'm guessing 30fps here
RRV - 60fps
RR6/7 - 60fps (not sure whether I care to count them as separate games)
RR PSP - 60fps
RRs PSP - 60fps
RR -
RR 3DS - 30fps
RR Vita - 30fps

seems pretty much 50:50

I'd love to believe they can get the game up to 60fps but hey - played through RR 3DS and it didn't kill me

One thing i REALLY REALLY need from Ridge though is a completely NEW set of tracks.

Also - Ridge Vision 2010 - alas... you were bullshit/turned into unbounded :(

I loved Ridge Racer on PSP, but that trailer looks pretty terrible. I'll be more than happy with Wipeout at launch. Hopefully, Criterion sees fit to bring a new open world Burnout to Vita, or Evolution makes an original Motorstorm.

Not sure if you count it, but RR High Spec on PS1 ran at 60fps.

The point is that it shouldn't be taking a step back. Ever since RR hit PS2, it has never dipped below 60fps until it arrived on 3DS and Vita, and arguably those handhelds are about on equal footing with tech from a decade ago.

BigBig is honestly more than capable of making a MotorStorm.

Too bad I don't think that studio is large enough to tackle that anymore ... :(

BigBig need to go back to pursuit force, expand on the concept or make the presentation better and more variety. it's an amazing game, although it got repetitive after a while

Precisely. I was extremely disappointed in (and didn't expect) the 3DS 30fps. It just looks wrong and destroys the design language of the game. The sleek, arcadey beauty of those course set pieces are cheapened significantly by the halved frame rate.

Imagine pursuit force on the Vita, with a second analogue stick for those shooting sections! Ooh!

Thanks for the laughs!

This looks pretty ropey, but I'll likely end up getting it anyway. A solid 30fps wouldn't bother me too much, but this trailer makes it look like it dips even lower...

I want the whole game to feel like Uncharted truck sequence but with manual driving too, add a bit of burnout with car takedown, and if they can make it an open world game, or at least provide multiple path you can take during a mission that'd be even better, imagine taking a different route from your target, but time your car so you ram the target's car on intersection or jump from a ramp in highway to a helicopter up above etc.

Ridge Racer was first and foremost an arcade game. Why are you only counting the console releases? Type 4 had a 60fps version of the original RR included with it as well. The PS1 releases were only 30fps out of sheer necessity, the series has always strived for 60fps gameplay.

but both machines aren't looking to recreate the look of the game from 10 years ago, both 3DS and Vita versions are aiming for the level set by the X360/PS3 versions.

Again, RR at TGS looked like the PS3 version but with frame rate + extra DOF effects. It looked significantly better than the dung pie in this trailer, the PSP version and the 3DS version.

I'll take a stable 30fps, but yes - ideally want 60fps. That lower price tag is making my eyebrow raise as well : is this a nod to "well, it's the same game again?" or "wait, it's a bit ropey!" or... both?

Hopefully it's just Namco realising that Ridge Racer in its current form is not worth full price.
