Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

I'm about to dive in this Sensor Bar called Nextronic's Sensor Eyes but I was wondering: Do you guys have heard any reviews/experiences/impressions about it? Do you guys think it'll work within a 1mt (3ft.) distance (between my desk where my monitor is and my desk chair, although a bit further)?

I know sensor bars are just bars with a couple (2) sets of LEDS within a defined distance so the wiimote could triangulate it's position. So could it be possible to align this "sensor bar" LEDs sets closer to each other to simulate a 6ft, or the normal, distance in which the wiimote should normally be used?

What do you guys think?

Hi gaf, after two years of dust collecting, my wii has been revived thanks to Zelda, but I now have a bigger TV and no matter how charming the game is, I just wish it'd be at a higher definition.
Which obviously made me come to this thread, I already have the Homebrew channel operational to play imported games but after reading the method to rip my own games it seems I need to install a custom IOS ? Now I was fine with the Homebrew channel modification since it's purely software but modifying the IOS come to me as something a little more delicate... Is it safe ? No risk involved in the future ? Please let me have your thought  (and can you use wii game saves with dolphin ?)

I'm going to have to test it against the actual Wii hardware, but I'm convinced Motion Plus through Dolphin has a significant delay compared to consoles. Either that or my controller is busted. When I watch the BitTech video on the swings, it looks way more responsive than my Dolphin setup (and yes, I'm running at 60fps).
For me there is also a huge difference between playing with the Wii and on the PC with emulation. Granted I only use a 20 Euro Vivanco Bluetooth USB adapter. Might not be the best ;)
Anyone know how to transfer a Dolphin save to the Wii?
Is it possible to copy a Skyward Sword save from the Wii to an SD card, send it via email or whatever and then use it with Dolphin?

May I ask how you're running at 60 fps? I thought zelda was 30 fps? Is there a tweak/hack or something?

I'm guessing I need a better dongle. The difference between the accuracy of Dolphin + dongle is huge compared to the actual console and not in a good way.

I'd get another dongle this instant but I don't want to do it blindly. Does anyone know what the quality of a dongle is measured in? Surely there some better measurement than price.

Edit: Apparently there are different bluetooth specification standards v1.0 up to v4.0 and my current dongle is v2.0. Supposedly 3.0 is much faster. I'm on the verge of finding out first hand if someone knowledgeable doesn't confirm.

Open Dolphin. Right click the game you want to transfer and choose open Wii save folder. Copy files to SD card. Use SaveGame Manager GX to copy the files to your Wii.

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/SaveGame_Manager_GX

Forgot to mention you have to change the folder structure on the SD Card. So the folder on the SD Card where you put the save files from the data folder should look something like "sd:card\savegames\00010000xxxxxxxx" where xxxxxxxx is the game id (looks something like 55385D8).

The fuck, I just bought M+ and a wireless sensor bar for my PC and now you guys tell me that it isn't emulated properly!? o_O

You own the game, a Wii to have ripped the game from, and didn't actually own a wii motionplus to play it with?

Forgot to mention you have to change the folder structure on the SD Card. So the folder on the SD Card where you put the save files from the data folder should look something like "sd:card\savegames\00010000xxxxxxxx" where xxxxxxxx is the game id (looks something like 55385D8).

Before resorting to homebrew, there's a native option to try as long as the saves aren't locked

Right click on the game in the game list and hit Export Wii Save

Then in the dolphin\private\wii\title\xxxx folder there's a file called data.bin

xxxx will be the first four characters that show up in the properties window in the title after the name

ex: Xenoblade Chronicles: SX4P01 = SX4P

Copy the xxxx folder onto your SD card along with the rest of the folder structure intact
sd card:\private\wii\title\xxxx

Then just put the sd card in your Wii and transfer it over using the normal save game manager

Did they add anything special to the PS360 port of Goldeneye? I'm thinking of just playing the Wii version in Dolphin instead if they didn't. It would probably end up looking better, unless they redid textures for the HD port.

I don't own the game yet. What's your problem, detective?
You're upset at owning a required peripheral to a game that you're already set on buying. Unless the issue is at the sensor bar, which is useful no matter the game, I'm not seeing the 'the fuck' about the situtation.

I don't own the game either so it would be nice to know if M+ even works ( if it doesn't why is it even required? ) before I start (re)buying all the components and all since I sold off my wii + wii motes and m+

The "fuck" about this is that I bought a new pc rig to emulate those games properly and it would be super shitty if M+ isn't working with it.

Anyway, is this BT thing fine?

http://www.logilink.eu/showproduct/BT0013.htm

The weird thing is that I sometimes have problems in combination with Motioninoy. If my DSIII is pointing upwards it doesn't recognize movements sometimes. That's weird, isn't it? Is there something better than motioninjoy?

Pretty sure they remade all the graphics.

Is it possible to have key configurations specific to games?

edit: Nevermind, I forgot the awesome profile system Dolphin uses! Love it! Have there been any recent updates to the client or is Dolphin 3.0 still the average best to use?

Looks like custom textures unbroke themselves at some point. In the process of scaling back the low res HUD elements and switching the buttons up.

If emulation compatibility is the tipping point for purchasing Skyward Sword, shame on you.

You need a Wii to rip the game FYI. Won't be able to rip with a regular DVD drive.

Anyways, I'm gonna test M+ on the Wii in a few minutes, and I'll report if it's any different.

edit: nope, not really any different. A tiny touch less lag, but the controls still kind of suck.

If anything, I think the controls are better on Wii. I think the delay when playing on Dolphin is inconsistent, which is leading me to believe it's my bluetooth adapter. Not surprising, since I paid $1 for it.

so i transferred over my save and did some direct comparisons. it's laughable how bad SS looks on my HDTV running on the Wii. painful even.

i took close ups of Link.

so, yeah. i'm going to keep playing it on Dolphin. at least i know now that if i hit a glitch or something unpassable on the emulator I can just transfer my save file over.

No option to emulate motionplus, you have to pair up a real wiimote with it.

That's what I mean. So you can just use a Wii motion+ controller without doing anything special. Cool stuff. Just started up Skyward Sword. This has definitely been the easiest emulator I have ever had to set up. :)

Thanks felipepl for your wonderful tips.

Yeah, SS on HDTV is no joke. I prefer to play it on the small 4:3 SDTV even if it has black bars and sometimes hardly readable text but at least it has no aliasing issues

Skyward Sword looks brilliant on my Panasonic Viera. As much as I love dolphin, it looks easily good enough on my TV to prefer the living room gaming experience.

so get with the program and hook your PC up to your HDTV :)

all it takes is a long HDMI cable.

my old SXRD set did a great job with Wii games. my current Sony, not so much. wish my SXRD hadn't died, but what are you going to do?

Alright, what do I need to get a Wii M+ controller working with Dolphin? A bluetooth dongle thingy and the M+ controller, yeah? I already have Xenoblade working but that's entirely 360 emulating a classic controller, so meh

If you have a capable PC there is just no excuse. I'm completely new to Dolphin and it took less then 10 minutes to get everything working (ripping took longer then that, but I did that when I wasn't home). I just followed felipepl instructions, googled how to use my Wii remote on my PC and downloaded Dolphin. Thing is running amazing. I didn't even have to buy a wireless sensor bar for my PC. I just turned on my Wii and I can use the one I already have.

I have a question about Dolphin and Wii/GC emulation in general...

Does Dolphin emulate everything the actual hardware would do? I ask because my frame-rate never moves from 30 but there are these moments when I clearly see a slight slow down. This reminds me a lot of Playstation emulation were even if the frame-rate never moved you would get the same slow downs as the actual hardware no matter what.

That's all I needed. Working 100%. I don't notice any extra input lag either.

Hmmmm I actually hadn't considering this lol. Could be the best way to go.

I'll have to look into it. My PC doesn't have an HDMI out so hopefully I can just get an adapter or something rather than adding a whole port to my comp..

Are you sure about that? Most modern video cards have an adapter you plug into the DVI part of the video out and can then use an HDMI for both audio and video.

If you can't do that then you should still be able to use a DVI to HDMI cable, you just can't transmit audio this way.

I'm confused as to how Dolphin works. Can it actually read the Wii disc itself while it is inside your disc drive, or do you have to acquire the games through...uhh...other means...

After seeing some of those Skyward Sword screens, I was thinking of giving this a try. I'm a bit PC-illiterate, but I think mine covers the basic requirements listed in the OP (dual core processor, 2.80 GHZ, 2 GB RAM). My concern is the vid card part...I have a Radeon X1300/X1550. Would that cut it?

very low end card by today's standards. you may be able to get by playing at native Wii resolution, but anything higher, probably not a chance.

So I'm better off just playing on my regular Wii? :(

EDIT: What would be a decent vid card to look into for this? Anything under $100?

It's probably your adapter. I have a built in bluetooth in my MB and it works perfect. Before I built this new pc I had one of those $1 adapter and it was crappy.

Only a rarity of drives support reading Wii games directly. You have to rip them with your Wii into an image.

You acquire the games by dumping them from your homebrew-enabled Wii to an SD card or USB hard drive.

Is it normal for there to be like...a ghosting effect around some objects? During opening cinematics of the game so far I've noticed that Link is blurry at times and I can see a ghostly halo/slight double image. I have been using the settings on this page everything is running flawlessly with 30 FPS so far.

Also is it normal for sound to sometimes do a slight glitchy noise? It's not too often but it happens every like 15 seconds or so during these cinematics so far.

Edit: Nevermind the double image thing...it was during a dream sequence and I didn't realize it was going for a blurry effect...haha.

It's actual there during some normal cutscenes as well. It's far more subtle then the one used in the dream sequence though. Any way to remove this? I'm not using any AA. Only 4x Internal resolution.

I'm having a weird issue where the Wiimote cursor seems to be inaccurate, I can tell because for example I have to point my Wiimote way down to move the cursor, to the point where it's pointed nowhere near at the TV. It's odd because if I pull up the menu using the home key, the cursor is perfectly accurate, it's only inaccurate in-game.

Side note, is there a good free host for uncompressed 1080p screens?

Edit: Also, do I have to re-pair my Wiimote every time after I power it off?

It looks like hot garbage on my Panasonic plasma. I had to switch it to my 21" CRT monitor, where it's still a mess of jaggies and filters :(

Gonna give Dolphin a go tomorrow!
