I'm wondering if Remedy is using a small portion of their team (DLC team perhaps?)to work on this while the rest are working on Alan Wake 2 with the new technical updates on their engine. We will find out soon enough anyway.

All I'm gonna say is that the tech for this game is seriously upgraded especially when it comes to facial animations. Just wait :)

Excellent to hear, thanks Riot. Glad to see that the Edge (And you) people that hinted about the technology update earlyier in the year is (also) for this. December's gonna be a pain to wait :(

Why would they make a new engine for the XBLA game? Improving seems far more logical. Or do you mean Alan Wake 2?

They have said that developing new tech for AW is out of the question. Of course they will improve and add stuff to the existing engine, but they'll focus more on content and story this time around. (which is great)

Remedy doesn't need to create a whole new engine from scratch. The engine they've developed is a damn fine beast, even Microsoft Game Studios touted that it's one of the best development tools they have come across because of how stable and robust it was (mentioned in one of the interviews with Remedy but I can't remember which article I'm afraid), and the engine is definitely scalable for updates. Its rendering is Godly.

If they manage to fix the IQ and animations, it's going to be one of the most impressive things out there.

And by the sounds of it, that's what has been done for this upcoming game! Now bring back that excellent quality of level design, like it was in the dlc, and add in further gameplay mechanics and more mind tricks and we're in for a treat.

IF the game looks like this:

But at 720p id be more than happy, id put it on the most technically amazing looking Xbox 360 game list.

The Teaser animations looked fine too....i just hope the game isnt too short so far it looks like the models (atleast Alans) is pretty damn big and riot says the game quality has jumped some ways from A.Wake i wonder if the game will be hurt by the 2GB size limit of XBLA.

Couldnt they sell it as a GoD?

It'll either be that or an XBLA game that doesn't follow the restrictions of the size limit. I can see the game being 1-3 gig max anyhow, since of how small Alan Wake 1 was in total.

I never finished the second dlc mission. Is it worth grabbing a copy, beating it, then re-selling? I really enjoyed the game and the first DLC mission.

So you sold the game and now want to re-buy for the second DLC? Weird, but if you liked Alan Wake I would give it a shot for sure. The game is available on GoD now too.

edit: listened to the MJRNelson podcast and it sounds like the game is bigger than most of us might think as geoff says "downloadable game does not equal small experience".

Yes because I wanted something else at the time, and the TIV was too enticing to not get rid of it. Maybe someone can loan me a copy? haha

Edit: It would be just for the story. Perhaps I should just watch a playthrough on youtube.

I assume GoD versions can have you download the DLC just fine, so just get an Alan Wake code again on eBay. They're dirty cheap.

And DLC 2 has better gameplay than DLC 1. Story-wise it's ok - it has a couple great scenes, but i don't think any of the two DLC chapters compare to the main game plot-wise.

Keighley: Alan Wake XBLA is “effectively” Alan Wake 2
“I’ve seen the game, seen the trailer we’re showing and even though it’s going to be a downloadable game, it’s not a small game,” said Keighley.

“It effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2 when you really look at it and what they’re doing with that game. It’s really ambitious, beautiful technology and I think people are really going to be excited about it.”

Now - to believe or not? How much has he seen (spill some infos, geoff! :)
And I think AW2 is in development, this might be their lead-up to the next game, or maybe it's just really a bigger spinoff.

I wonder since the 360 generation is winding down somewhat if they are going to experiment more with this kind of thing to see if it will be successful before the next xbox. Seems like there is a market for this (bigger than an xbla game but not quite a full priced game).

Either way excited to see more.... I doubt we would see it but I am going to ces this year and would love to see it playable there (they usually have future xbla games playable there)

Some more clearing on geoffs comments from Mikki:
Well, I really don't want to talk about this before the VGAs. We've got all sorts of things lined up and I don't want to steal anybody's thunder. I'm very glad that he's excited about it, he's obviously saying very nice things and we're proud of the game!

However, I think that since he invokes the "Alan Wake 2" name, I should reiterate what we've said all along: this new game is not Alan Wake 2, and if we intended it to be that, we'd have named it that. (I know he means it as a compliment, and I appreciate that, I just don't want there to be any confusion about it.)

Hot title screen.

Can't fucking wait for this. Alan Wake was so incredibly underrated. Amazing game.

Arcade Action? Hmm..

Title screen is ace.

Curious to see how this game looks considering it's an arcade title. I still think that Alan Wake is one of the best looking games this generation, regardless of whatever resolution it's rendered it.

I'm allowing myself to be hyped.

And I don't care who knows. I'm excited at the possibility of it taking place in a desert...if that teaser shot is where they are going with it.

Getting a 360 for Alan Wake and all its children. I recently watched Twin Peaks and loved it, which made me appreciate Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and Alan Wake clearly takes inspiration from Twin Peaks as well.

I'm becoming terrified at the thought of what lies in store in that game.

SOOOOO many intense scary moments in Alan Wake. Loved it so much. First ever DLC where I literalyl did not wait one second before purchasing. I had to play more regardless.

Got all 1500 and I need mooooooooooorrrreeeeee.
