Miyamoto: "Retro (the developer) might be a good fit for Zelda."

Not sure if I'd like Retro working on a main series title. A big problem that came up with the Metroid Prime series is that the series (or at least the 3D games in the series) had nowhere to go once Retro left, which is how Other M happened.

A Sheik spin-off makes way too much sense in this instance. The Zelda team would be able to keep making main series games, avoiding an awkward return to the series 8 years down the line. Meanwhile, Retro could make a game that isn't as restricted by the series' conventions. Or it wouldn't have to be Sheik: We could have an adventure with Tetra's pirate crew, or a game set entirely in the Twilight Realm, or a return to Termina. I'd love to see what Retro could do with these ideas.

Unfortunately it seems like Miyamoto is talking more about Retro making a mainline series title, but I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to that either.

I always thought a perfect spinoff for Zelda/Sheik would be to have it occur during the Great Flood. The Hero of Time fails to appear so Zelda/Sheik goes out and tries to stop the great evil. In the end the Great Flood makes for a bitter sweet ending.

I would like to see what they come up with, but man SS was so awesome I sort of want a sequel like that.

So to solve this problem for the Wii U make:

SS+WW+TP HD collection

Retro Zelda

Aonuma's Zelda

Problem solved next gen for all the haters.

Its a shame it will not be very much different from any other 3D Zelda. Yes, a really large, engrossing, adventure heavy, Skyrim/Western RPG influenced game would be pretty sweet! Ain't gonna happen. Shame. Damn Shame. Why not just have 2 major projects? Have a traditional EAD one early in the generation then a more western one later on. :(

EAD is probably just having such a hard time remembering which Zelda game that Zelda fans actually like that they just went, "Fuck it. Give this shit to Retro."

It could be incredible to set it in a Tallon-style world preluding the Wind Waker where the hero explores the ruins of Hyrule, where the story is told in the background rather than through cut-scenes. An evil army scavenges what's left of the war-raged world, Sheikah outposts, mutated Gorons/Zoras and Ghost Hylian Swordsmen. Perhaps with Lanayru type game-play when the main character can visit areas before they were destroyed in the war. It could finish the Hero of Time trilogy with Link sacrificing himself to flood the world at the end, reawakening the people on the land. It would take some exposition, told through background messages on the Gossip stones, in abandoned books, on portraits like in the WW. These would explain why the hero was lost and forgotten, as well as why Ganon was winning. That could be a good foundation.

I'm still playing SS and absolutely loving it, so tbh I dont care if its done by Retro or the regular team.

That said, if Retro did make it or collaborate, it would be in very safe hands indeed.

Well given Retro worked on old circuits for Mario Kart 7 and Monolith being credited in Skyward Sword, we can bet on a Retro work on the HD assets for Zelda Wii U. Maybe that's what Miyamoto wanted to say :lol

The whole game will be set inside a single dungeon riddled with mini-dungeons.

I'm sure a Retro developed Zelda would be a great and all...

but I'd prefer that Retro be given the freedom to create whatever they want and spawn a new IP.

They need to bring back the freaky stuff.

I want them to put some psychotic Zora/Rito hybrid abominations in it to freak people out.

Title is paraphrased.

I never got into Metroid Prime, and played Donkey Kong Country with the wife enough to know I liked it... but I'm not gonna lie, this would probably be awesome.

Just get rid of the goddamn motion controls.

The first game was open world in almost exactly the same sense as elder scrolls.
Dumbest thing I've ever read.

Retro has amazing art direction, all the Metroid Prime games and DKCR had tons of details all around.

I'd love to see Retro Studios and Nintendo work together on a Zelda game, I can only imagine what a HD Zelda collaborative effort with Retro Studios would look like!!

But it's not a first person shooter. Changing the perspective does not automatically change the type of game it is.

Oh so its the exact same game. That's right. There wasn't even any controversy when it was revealed, now I remember, everyone was like "This is exactly like Super Metroid" and nobody worried.

You are blanketing genres so much if you think you can put the Prime games together with other "FPS" games. Prime was a very slow paced adventure game first and a shooter secondly. The difference is just as big as it was with Super and let's say Megaman games that were about platforming and shooting, not exploring.

...really? Really?
Let's try this. Forget about first person and focus on the word shooter.

If you were to play Modern Warfare, would you call it a action-adventure or a shooter? Was Super Metroid an action adventure, platformer or a shooter?

FPS doesn't mean firts person shooting in the literal sense of the word, it means the genre shooter played in first person. Metroid Prime may be a first person game, but it does not fit the shooter genre, but it does fit the action-adventure

I don't know if Metroid is a FPS, but i would like more action-adventure in shooter.
After playing Halo Reach i've found this game so empty. Great environment, but nothing to do or to found except shooting things.

That's why a former Retro Studios designer is working on Halo 4 :)
