These three artwork pictures are great… So what can they tell us? Judging by the first or second picture, it can maybe be assumed that we will have to scavenge for food (probably more like a set game goal - controlled narrative, rather than having gameplay aspect built around it). And that the gameplay could be oriented around the bonfire (like finding places where you will sleep, etc.)? Or again, sleeping will only be scripted for certain events? Probably the latter. Still the first artwork gives me slight hope that maybe the game will aim for wholeness. What I mean by that is that the game will not be split into level like chapters, but that you will truly experience and be inside that journey which they are undertaking. Although due to the cinematic approach this idea could also be questioned. I guess the game will be most similar to Enslaved regarding the progress from one location to another.

Second artwork… The gameplay will have hide and seek elements. Obviously. Though I wonder how much will you be fighting/avoiding humans versus zombies. The most boring thing about hide and seek is trial and error, which I doubt is the route the game will take. But then again, Uncharted did not excel in this area as well, even if it had a rather lenient approach to it. So I really wonder if they will find a way to make this gameplay aspect more polished and fun. Please do so. :(

What I am most excited about the third picture are animals. Again, as was already mentioned, hunting them for food? Probably not happening (if the cinematic approach is the goal, you most likely want to reduce all the unnecessary game like clutter, in the vein of ICO or SOTC). Although, these areas will prove to be nice contrast between cities. Maybe sections with driving functional vehicles between areas?

God of War 2 was successful even it was released months after the PS3. People will buy the game as long as it's good.

For many, since this game will be so late, we will have big expectations on this game especially on graphics and gameplay since it will go toe to toe against next gen console. They really have to work hard to steal the thunder away from next gen console by that time.

They'll be fine. It'll probably do better on PS3 due to a larger install base.

And tons of people will still be buying PS3 (for the first time) when PS4 launches... there are millions of people trailing a gen behind.

It shouldn't be a problem since early generation titles (especially launch) titles aren't known for really blowing people away in terms of graphics and gameplay. This is especially true since the 3D era started. You might be able to pick one or two launch titles for systems that are really incredible like SSX on the PS2 or Mario 64 on the N64. But you don't even get that some times. You'll have some nice games, but nothing really incredible or even anything that most people will remember fondly at the end of a generation.

I just...I'm trying to get hyped for this. I've never played an Uncharted game all the way through but I've played enough to know that Naughty Dog are excellent at what they do, but....I can't bring myself to feel anything for that concept art. I feel like I'm just done with the post-apocalypse.

I agree with you, though my dealings with the Uncharted series was roughly an hour for each of the first two games. The combat was a turn-off for the setting but that is nothing more than a personal gripe rather than an attack on the company at large. With this game the post-apocalyptic theme makes me cringe and the infected scenario makes me weep a little; the only thing going for it aesthetically is the correct ideas of how nature retakes the land back. Every other game in that genre has been a barren wasteland yet that generally isn't the case in reality.

What excites me however is Naughty Dog specifically stating that story telling in games could be crafted much better. Though this will probably be a game that I will make someone else play exclusively to see whether Naughty Dog were boasting for show or sticking to their word, yet I understand where they are coming from. It is slightly disappointing when I can recall visions of passages in my favourite pieces of literature as if they were concrete dreams, but only have fleeting moments of memory in the best of games where a majority of that is tied to the music played at that time in the scenario or the graphical moment of it all. We're slowly getting there after a handful of excellent games in the late 90s and such but baby steps at a time I suppose.

The only reason why I can muster any hype for this is probably for completely different reasons than a majority of everyone else.

Lets hope thats the case, i do believe if ps3 maximum power is properly utilize it can surpass the visuals of first gen next generation games since developer are not yet familiar on next gen console on how to harness its power for its first gen games. We are all expecting allot from ND because it will be so late, it will be a painfull wait, hopefully some beta or demo. Hopefully fall of 2012 and not the rumored early 2013.

But I think they will do fine since this is ND we are talking about. I hope this game will have that feeling of desperation and fear like in the movie I'm Legend and drama of Walking dead and carnage of 30 Day's of Nights.

by next year (fall) PS3 should be 199$. That will help this game alot. And other exclusive games for that matter. I believe there are indeed millions of people still playing on PS2s

Man that second artwork gave me chills... It's exactly what I want to see in this game.

Hope for a more open game this time.

I really liked the randomised, extemporary feeling the dialogues at the bonfires had in Red Dead. ND makes great cutscenes, but those little moments always felt more personable to me.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
THIS was your counter example for great, deep gameplay!?

holy fuck lol.

Annnnnyway, a lot of my problems with UC3 is that its so focused on being "cinematic" that most of the time it forgets to be a fun video game. This constant push for video games to stop being video games and start being movies, more "cinematic", less choice, less player agency, etc is easily the worst trend of the current generation. Worst then on-disc DLC, online passes, or Angry Birds.

This post is so off in my opinion. It's like you believe that there aren't games out there that are just straight gameplay only. If you don't want a story and just a fun game to play go by a Pixel Junk game. They're fun!

If you want something more then ND, Valve, Irrational, etc will deliver that. Why is this so bad and wrong to you?

Concept art looks great. I'm looking forward to see what ND does with the post-apocalyptic setting. Since they are trekking across the US, i hope they will go through different seasons (autumn, winter, summer, spring). It would be a great opportunity to re-use their great snow and rain tech. Throw in different times of day (morning, night,...) and this could be awesome.

This picture reminds me a lot of Uncharted 2 when you fall through the floor in Kathmandu into a shop and fight a bunch of guys before Chloe comes and saves the day with an RPG. I really liked that set up and the stealth mechanic worked really well in that part of the game.

The artwork is fantastic. It seems to be going to the direction I want it to go, not a zombie killing fest like L4D or RE (nothing wrong with those, but I'm ready for a different experience)

Maybe the fungus started off as a common nail fungus (which is pretty disgusting, as you can see) and then mutated into fungus heads.

Listening to Gustavo whatever his last name is interview where he says the story is very emotional and whatnot makes me want to go on media blackout for this game. I don't know how feasible that will be as I'm pretty sure there will be an E3 demo and something at Jimmy Fallon or whatever.

I hope ND learned their lesson, the only major surprise there was
playing as young Drake
. We saw the boat scene, Chateau, airplane, etc in Jimmy Fallon, E3, and other shows. It's partially my fault, but I wish developers would do like R* and Irrational and only show a tiny piece of it to the public and that's it.

Thank god for that! I hate these over the top brain dead gore fest zombie games. I hope this goes the route of Heavy Rain but does much much better job with telling a mature emotional story (yeah I know, of course w/o the QTEs before you haters start hating on HR).

So it's not only mutated people we'll be fighting? Cool.

Also that last piece of artwork has me hyped indeed.

I think there's no doubt he's a "murderer." They said Joel has crossed many lines already and Ellie is his "one chance at redemption." Which means, inevitably, that he is not Nathan Drake - Naughty Dog is probably going to have a fitting tone when you have to kill someone, since Joel IS a killer. In this way it will feel less incongruous than the gameplay of Uncharted.

benevolent sexism
Do you think this new guy will be as much of a murderer as Drake is?

His killings will take place in a different context and presumably he won't be portrayed as a witty everyman who happens to get into dozens of gun fights. So regardless of how many people he kills, the "Nathan Drake is a mass murderer" dissonance won't be an issue. Or at least it won't be the same issue.

edit: oh, just like Amir0x said.

regarding that bonfire... who wants to bet that there will be at least two Joel monologues in this game around a fire or some other brief quiet moment where he is describing how amazing the "old world" was to Ellie, in a stereotypical "glory of times past" montage?

Ellie: "Is it true? What you said earlier? About there being people here who didn't always try to kill one other, a long time ago?"
*Joel looks longingly at the starry night sky*
Joel: "I...yes, it's true."
Ellie: "Can you...tell me about it, just this once? About the neon lights and those car things you told me about? About Christmas?"
Joel: "Well, when I was a boy around your age--" *speech*
*at some point Ellie falls asleep during the speech, to which Joel smiles and tucks her in*

Spoiler that shit ffs.

So have we come to the conclusion that we will be playin as Joel and not as Ellie?

I would love to stab some people in the back with Ellie.

I think Ellie is going to be the main character. Her youth/naive nature could really help introduce/build the gameplay and story

I want Joel to be the main character, but I also want to be able to play as Ellie a considerable amount of time.

I think ND has a nice chance to do something cool with the characters in terms of gameplay.
