The Last Of Us: Late 2012/Early 2013, 3rd Person, [Update 2: More Info In OP]

From the interview of vandal.net:

- You'll control Joel throughout the game.

- One player adventure. (No news of online mode - coop mode)

- They're show a scene in which Joel is teaching Ellie how to shoot a gun (but the Dogs said that they're not sure if the scene will appear in the final version of the game or not).

- A game centered in the relation of the two main characters (Joel & Ellie) and not on the infected.

- Face animations and expressions will be done by hand.

- It is still not known which is the relation between the protagonists.

- To the infected & other survivors.. a third enemy'll appear: the mother nature.

- In order to add more tension, more realism and nerve to the cinematics, it is being tried to imitate a style of "camera in hand" , something that we already saw with spectaculars results in the film "Children of the Men".

-It'll be a game less linear than Uncharted, with exploration elements.

Yesssssssssss. That´s great news.

Everything sounds great to me, except for the playing a Joel part. Missed opportunity.

If we played as Ellie, ND probably couldn't put the character in any real dangerous situations anyway though. Playing as a child in video games with post-apocalyptic settings where mutant humanoids are trying to rip your face off probably wont ever happen.

If it´s M rated, of course ND can put Ellie in danger.

You can play as a kid in Siren Blood Curse and those episodes were by far the best parts of Siren.

It all sounds great to me. Game doesn't need to be open world, but this type of game cant be too linear either. Cant wait to see some gameplay to see if the game comes close to its promise.

I love the sound of this. More exploration = awesome.

Now I just need to hear that ammo/weapons are in short supply and I'll have to think my way out of situations and I'll be sorted.

well even wells said look at the video, a lot of hints in there. I hope one of that is as you say short supply.

100% Agreed. From the trailer I assumed that Ellie would be the main character. I would have loved to start the game as Joel then play as Ellie the rest of the way; once they joined up.

omg this. Facial capture has this uncanny valley effect that is like impossible to miss, while hand made facial animation feels like art or something. That's why Zelda, KH, and FF didn't look all damn weird to me.

And with that I am Bioshock Infiniting this game, that is, no more media for me unless they put it in a place where I won't miss it, i.e. press conference at E3, Gamescom, or something.

I'm liking the details in the new article, especially the mother nature stuff and exploration. I was hoping the game would go this route before we even saw a trailer for it and am very glad that it is. Can't wait to roam the gorgeous scenery in this game.
Also love that facial animation will be done by hand. Should be something especial with ND's attention to detail.

Yeah but Siren is a completely different game. They could get away with it because they didn't actually have to show the girl dying and she couldn't fight back. With TLoU I don't see how ND would have gone around it, especially since Ellie clearly knows how to fight back and probably fire a gun so she would also have to be able to take damage and die in any of those given sequences.

Everyone says that. But I think it has a more artistic quality to it, and playing stuff like Crysis, COD, and LA Noire I don't care how advance the tech is, it just rubbed me the wrong way.
LA Noire is the worst. The face is like someone's face pasted into the 3d model. Their eyes are lifeless, and their expressions are almost similar regardless of what emotions they want to convey. I was amused, however, that the character's smirking expression looks so much like that troll gif from 4chan.

Wow, the second update sounds really promising. Battling nature could be really interesting and exploration is always good. I wonder if the scene from the trailer where they're running down the hall is the same handheld style that the game will be in.

Facial animations are hand drawn in Uncharted right?

I believe so.

Update sounds great, though count me as a little disappointed that we don't play as Ellie. Oh well, not a huge deal.

Cool to hear about the more exploration aspect. Can't wait for all the people accusing the game of trying to be Heavy Rain to come in and admit their mistake :p

Update 2 sounds awesome. And I love that they keep trying to focus on how it's a story about the characters, not the infected.

Although I am a bit surprised you don't play as Ellie at all, apparently. Though it's not a big deal to me as everyone else seems to think.

If we play as Joel exclusively then I become more worried about Ellie's role in their partnership. Specifically, how is she credit to team?

It also means we're playing as a character that's fairly similar to Drake which could be troubling on it's own from a gameplay standpoint.

To the infected & other survivors.. a third enemy'll appear: the mother nature.

I'm interested in what this could mean.

I hope it's related to mutated ant creatures being in the game, as indicated by the end of that ant-cordyceps teaser.

A more detailed explanation from the translated article:

Streets taken by vegetation, buildings in ruins, wild animals anywhere, streets and subway tunnels flooded, the dangers and hardships to which we have to face appear to have no limits.

Eh, judging by the trailer, Joel isn't very similar to Drake (unless you're talking about physical build). He seemed very serious and somber. Ellie's personality actually seemed a bit more like Drake than Joel, when she made the remark "Better than that guy."

The Joel statement was very carefully worded. Playing as him "throughout" the game could mean you're exclusively him or sporadically you get to play as him as the game goes on.

If they really wanted to offer choice to the player, let there be a moment where you can choose to let Ellie die and then continue the story living with that choice.

I suspect however that Ellie dying will result in a quick fade to black followed by restarting at a checkpoint.

I wonder what Mother Nature means to ND? Animals? Global Warming? Floods?

A more detailed explanation from the translated article:

1) You really want mutant ant monsters in this game about people trying to endure the disintegration of civilization? Ant monsters would be a very unnecessary addition, since there are already fungus-zombies. Also, if we're trying to actually connect this to the science of cordyceps, the mutant ant creatures would be the size of ants, because there's nothing about the fungus that would make them bigger. Maybe you're picturing massive swarms of regular sized ants?

2) I'm fairly certain the teaser video was not meant to be taken literally. It's an explanation for what has happened to humanity, not an indicator that monster ants will play a role in the actual game.

At least I hope not.

Probably this:

So they are going to treat her like John Conner from terminator 2, never giving him a gun but letting him reload and so forth? Guess they want to avoid young'ins shooting people. (she can still stab the infected)

I really don't see the problem with having fungus-infected mutants and also over-sized, humanoid ant creatures or something of the like. We have no idea about the history of the story in the game, so anything could be possible and infected people may not be the only enemy in the game.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense at all. Why even put that last 15-20 seconds in the teaser then? There was a really good speculation article that came out before the debut trailer that strongly indicated that the clicking and screamofnightmares heard in the teaser was very specific to how some ants behave.

Slightly more noisy than a fungus. At the time, we described the “creepy clicking noises” and “what seems to be a cut off scream”, but the scream is far from normal, and sounds very inhuman. Bullet Ants, much like other ants, use a series of clicks to communicate and, more importantly, when the ant attacks it often emits a high pitched shriek by rubbing bits of its body together that has been described to sound like a human scream. This shriek is a call for other Bullet Ants, and can summon thousands of the poisonous biters for far afield, as the sound is so loud that it can be heard several meters away, even by the human ear.

http://*************************/2011/12/09/the-last-of-us-exposed-new-info-new-theories/

So like I said, what's the point of putting it in there in the first place if ant creatures will have nothing to do with the final game?

Huh? Why is playstationlifestyle banned?
