The Last Of Us: Late 2012/Early 2013, 3rd Person, [Update 2: More Info In OP]

Yeah I know, my point is, maybe they feel like it's time to show their next game. TLOU got a lot of attention. And they as Sony premier studio maybe feel over shadowed by ND and their tech.

Sony like to have news and info of their games reveal around the same time, we actually just got sorcery update, wouldn't surprise me if we got update to most of sony known game and unannounced games soon.

Yeah word, I didn't think of that.

To be fully transparent though, I don't hold SSM in as high regard since the departure of David Jaffe. GOW III was a technical marvel yes, but I don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that Jaffe's replacement completely butchered and fucked up the story. That left a really bitter taste in my mouth and almost ruined the game for me. The trilogy did not get the ending it deserved.

Little bit off topic, but how would you have ended the GOW trilogy?

GoW2 was the peak of the series, and Jaffe didn't have shit to do with it. They got a PS3 engine in place now, I'm sure somebody is working their ass off on GoW4 right now(watch it have Stig as game director again, DAMN IT ALL)

God of War 3 was a great game. I think I finished it 3 times. The only thing it lacked was varied environments compared to GOW2. I would have picked Jaffe's ending though, it made more sense lol.

Haven't given it a whole lot of thought tbh, but I know for sure that I wouldn't have ended it with
Kratos going soft, trying to protect some little girl and all this hope and rainbows and forgiveness bullshit that completely shits on the very essence of the GOW universe which is very dark and brutal
Also, as already stated I think Jaffe's idea is infinitely better than what they ended up doing with it.

It's worth noting that Jaffe has recently said that he's open to working on the series again. He said that he'd like to do a Zelda-inspired GoW title.

I remember reading the article where Jaffe talking about that. I agree with him that the current formula of hack n' slash button mashers is really stale now. For the GOW series to continue into next gen it will need someone with Jaffe's thinking. Running around doing nothing but mashing x, triangle, square and o just won't cut it. The series needs deeper gameplay then just chaining combos with the occasional QTE thrown in.

More I hear about this, the more excited I am.

Getting a little bit of a Fallout vibe from the concept art, and that music as well. Played this like 5 straight times now.

All of this makes it sound like open world. Could be great.

Loved "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West" despite its shortcomings. If he/they can do something similar without the shortcomings it would just be perfect - type of game more or less unimportant.

Maybe a more adventurous, slightly stealth enhanced Uncharted - with a few coop elements, that would be nice.

I doubt it, but what is the link to their twitter?

Is this confirmed? That would mean 3 Sony studios have moved on to 2 teams (ND, SSM, GG). SP will probably do that as well eventually.

I am tired of my self writing same stuff over and over. But ok.

Listen to this BR, part 3 and pay attention to what John Hight say
http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/bonusround/502?ch=3

In short, they are expanding from 105 GOW3 team to 200 man team in short amount of time.
Senior member are going to work on new IP, new guys (from the sound of it) probably on GOW4.

Here is another solid proof that they are working on new IP.

There were another hints at it but I am lazy to remember. I know that I read somewhere some Sony guy saying that their big teams will all have two teams going forward. So SSM, ND, GG having two teams makes sense. And it even makes more sense that 3rd party exclusives are far and few so 1 st party needs to be effective. I guess.

Thanks for posting this. I did not know that SSM has 200 people and that they are working on new IP. I can´t wait.

Yeah, but that's not their core team. They're most likely working on GoW 4 or some other game.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic on PS4 launching in 2013 whereas XBOX720 definitely is going to.

Sony needs to put out some meaty games until then. GOW4 fits the job.

Very curious to see on which plate-forms COD 2013 is gonna be (can MS propose a framework where XBOX720 owners can play against XBOX360 ones? seems possible from the PS3-VITA talk).

Of course they will play together. Both will use same network service XBL. No brainer. Agree on PS4. Maybe like Vita launch in early 2014. If we look at what Sony US studios are doing, they all seem to be working on PS3 games (as they should) so I wonder who is going to make those first gen/first year exclusives on PS4? Japanese & European studios?
That didn't play out so well on PS3. Folklore, Lair, HS and what else they had ?

Joel sounds like the main character to me

Maybe you can play as Ellie as well who knows?

That's what I was hoping for. Now we only need to know if there will be enough instances where we will be able to play as Ellie.

Even if it's the inevitable moment when Joel gets lost in a scene or the game tries to make us think that he was taken by savages and killed, and Ellie has to continue alone just to find him alive later on or something like that. I can manage that.

my grip with 720<>360 interaction is 720 versions will have better animations/framerates/textures/whatever that it will probably require quite substantial differnces on models and terrains etc...

regarding that bonfire... who wants to bet that there will be at least two Joel monologues in this game around a fire or some other brief quiet moment where he is describing how amazing the "old world" was to Ellie, in a stereotypical "glory of times past" montage?

Ellie: "Is it true? What you said earlier? About there being people here who didn't always try to kill one other, a long time ago?"
*Joel looks longingly at the starry night sky*
Joel: "I...yes, it's true."
Ellie: "Can you...tell me about it, just this once? About the neon lights and those car things you told me about? About Christmas?"
Joel: "Well, when I was a boy around your age--" *speech*
*at some point Ellie falls asleep during the speech, to which Joel smiles and tucks her in*

I personally think that'll be a great thing. I don't care if it's "stereotypical". It's what would happen in real life. Hell I'd be disappointed if that conversation didn't happen at least once in the game.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Don't fall for the hype.. don't fall for the hype..

too late.

Dammit, I hate being excited for a game over a year in advance.. by the time it hits I'm just not as excited anymore.

I started playing Uncharted 3 (finally) and I am a little worried about a few thing. I am playing on Hard, and AI seems atrocious! If you wait behind cove bad guys one by one start walking like idiots towards you so you can shoot them in the face. Same goes for friendly AI. They act weird. I really don't remember it being this "bad" in U2 but maybe I am wrong.

One thing that does feel worse then in U2 is shooting. Yes I got the patch but it feels stiff and I don't know unsatisfying .

I love the game so far, on chapter 6. Chapters 2 and 3 are one of my favorites in Uncharted games. But I noticed these little things. I usually don't like to nit pick things but since TLOU will have AI with you, it's interesting to think about it.

The game really doesn't hit its stride until Chapter 10 imo.

At least first gen games on 720 won't be that different then the ones on current gen, that is why I expect cross platform. Later on when install base grows they will make that big leap that 360 won't be able to follow.

Jaffe's GoW3 ending sounds so much better than the real one... I hope he returns for GoW4.

He has his own studio now. 3 game contract with Sony. And he clearly stated that he has nothing to do with GOW any more, it isn't his franchise any more. It is not something that interests him any more. So I doubt he will make a come back.

How ever not so long ago, when Geoff organized round table talk or something like that with him, Ken Levin and Tod Howard, he said that he has this idea for a really big game in his head(not GOW). Let's see how Twisted Metal does because from the sound of it, he wants to make another one if this one sell well.

It'll make sense to have COD13-14 and so forth be a dual release on 360/Loop and triple release on PS3/4/Vita, but that means that the game will be held back by the inferior hardware, so they should only do it for 2 or 3 years.

I think GOW4 can still release on PS3 and offer something new to the series (new gameplay changes like Jaffe suggested, online/offline multiplayer like was rumored) whereas Uncharted 4, Killzone 4, GT5, LBP3, even inFamous 3, should be held back until PS4. Those developers should work on support existing games, new IPs, PS4, or bring back old favorites like Jak4 and HS2.

A lack of competence isn't the only thing that can make a goal unfeasible. All developers, no matter how competent, have to make choices about what they can and can't accomplish within a budget or time frame. Making smart choices about what to spend time on does not necessarily imply that they were technically incapable of the things they chose not to do.

Sorry to bring this up again, but come on....

Sucker Punch added support five to six months after inFAMOUS 2 was released. Sure they happen to introduce it as part of DLC (that was separate from the main game) first, but they patched the main game about two weeks after the DlC was released. What makes inFAMOUS 2 so different from other action/platforming/third- person adventure with shooting elements ̶g̶a̶m̶e̶s̶ experiences? I mean commmeee oonnn!

Have a fun! Enjoy!
I can't tell from the translation... who's writing this?

Neil Druckmann, which, by the way, hinted at a "surprising" Naughty Dog project back in January 2010.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24465

Can we expect other comic projects from you when you're not working on Naughty Dog games?

Absolutely! It's been a lot of hard work, but the end result of the finished book was completely worth it. I'm developing a couple of ideas right now, and I'll start talking to artists soon. On top of that, I can't wait to spill the beans about what we're doing next at Naughty Dog – people will be surprised!

From the interview of vandal.net:

- You'll control Joel throughout the game.

- One player adventure. (No news of online mode - coop mode)

- They're show a scene in which Joel is teaching Ellie how to shoot a gun (but the Dogs said that they're not sure if the scene will appear in the final version of the game or not).

- A game centered in the relation of the two main characters (Joel & Ellie) and not on the infected.

- Face animations and expressions will be done by hand.

- It is still not known which is the relation between the protagonists.

- To the infected & other survivors.. a third enemy'll appear: the mother nature.

- In order to add more tension, more realism and nerve to the cinematics, it is being tried to imitate a style of "camera in hand" , something that we already saw with spectaculars results in the film "Children of the Men".

-It'll be a game less linear than Uncharted, with exploration elements.

Nice!

Thanks very much for the summary. :)

Sounds like ND is doing all the right things with this game. Damn, I'm excited to see/hear more.

Everything sounds great to me, except for the playing a Joel part. Missed opportunity.
