NeoGaf's first NeoCosplay Thread. Muahahaha

Has she done Power Girl yet? It sometimes seems like anyone with a C cup or larger has.

In what country do girls commonly get plastic surgery to "fill out their clothes a bit more", because they clearly have too much money.

Can we not turn this thread into a fake vs real breast argument and keep posting awesome costumes?

Oh I have no probs with fake boobage, Im sorry if it came out that way.

I just dont see a lot of love for the characters she cosplays, eventhough technically its all done to the highest degree (and she puts a whole lot of work into the costumes themselves). Its hard to put into words.

She'd be pissed if she heard you say that. Yaya is a big defender of cosplay for love and not for attention or sexual thrill. She's big into the craft. I know she's not a huge gamer, but she definitely doesn't cosplay any characters or designs she doesn't like.

To add to the thread, my bud Crystal was just hired for model for Firefall. She didn't make the costume herself, but they really look awesome! She really pulls off the character, and her other costumes she makes herself are great: http://onpaperwings.deviantart.com/

oh my god I"m Crystal's biggest fan, I'm in love with your friend.

But what about the quality? Surely the cheaper surgeries aren't so great.

I would imagine quality being a bit more subjective, and probably highly dependent upon the surgeon.

As far as cost, I didn't say that "cheap is ok", just that it's not as expensive as you might think.

Edit: And to avoid derailing the thread, more awesome cosplay!

I have a hard time believing that a lot of women do this "for the love of the craft". I'm not saying that some do it for that reason, but I really do think most of it stems from the attention they receive. I'm sure some strippers chose their profession because they love to dance too.

That's kinda a negative view of the world, no?

Surely everyone who cosplays - male or female - is doing it for attention, right? They want people to look at them... that's the whole point.

Well no shit. Kind of the idea. You can wear outfits you'd never get to wear anywhere else.

There are different reasons though. Some girls view it as a means to become professional sponsored. Some just look at it as a chance for more attention. Some really just want to wear those outfits and be pretty. Etc. Etc.

I disagree, it's an awful lot of work to make these costumes. If you just want a bunch of people to leer at you on the internet, there are much easier ways to do it.

Most of the cosplayers I know certainly enjoy attention, but one of the main reasons for doing it is simply because they love the character that they cosplay. This thread isn't a very good indicator of what average female cosplayers are like though, because a lot of them don't wear skimpy outfits at all. About half the female cosplayers I know actually cosplay male characters more often than female characters.

The bolded is what I was trying to get across. Its totally a non-issue, just something that strikes me as obvious when I see her poses and photos. I believe you when you say that's not her intent, but to me that's way it comes across.

There are some girls that definitely do it just for attention, but I would say the majority are not like this. I know a ton of girls who are into costuming thanks to my wife also being into the hobby with me and most just do it because they love the character and working on the costume. For instance my wife has hand made a corset before (not easy) for a costume and then wore it under a dress so you never saw it.

The worst is when these girls sink a ton of time into these costumes and then get shit on for not being pretty enough because that is what people expect out of cosplay these days. More than once I have seen girls brought to tears after seeing these comments. :(

I hang around with a good number of cosplayers and sorry, thats not the case. Its also kind of offensive that you see it that way. People get a real thrill out of dressing as characters that they really like, and enjoy hanging out with other people that do the same and share it with other fans.

Anyways, this is my favorite cosplay of ALL TIME:

Outstanding on every level

Yeah, that is so terrible.

Um, thats not what I said? At all?

Likewise, I find it hard to believe that many don't do it for attention. Especially with the amount of "hey, you did get a shot of my ample cleavage, right?" pictures posted online. I realize a lot of female character designs aren't exactly subtle but some of the stuff posted online is a bit unnecessary.

Now, many of the cosplayers just kind of get seen "in the wild", as it were, and those get posted as they pose. That's fine. The whole touched up glamour shots? Hard to see those without a nagging feeling in the back of my mind :/

The thing is that the girls doing that are a very tiny minority of female costumers in general. People outside of the community just see that a lot more since it is what gets passed around.

Right. And I'm just referring to those with those shots. Like I said, I'm fine with the rest of them as they're just going to cons and doing their thing for the love of it or whatever their reason is; showing off is just a part of the nature of female character design being what it is.

The ones that put it up everywhere and make sure to flaunt it are the ones that I can't shake the "attention whore" nagging thought. And, sure, maybe they're not but that's just my train of thought when I see those.

Also, I just realized that, essentially, I'm complaining about cosplay and T&A so somewhere in all this, I lost all grip of my priorities in life.

Oh the ones doing what you are talking about know exactly what they are doing. I was mistaken in thinking you were applying that behavior to the majority of girls in costuming based on a few. The attention whoring is actually something that bugs me as someone heavily in the hobby. I complain about it now and then, but usually get shot down as being "jealous".

Recently went to ALA2012. Only could stay for a day, but got some nice pics!

So here's my lousy attempt at cosplaying a couple months ago (I'm the one on the right →, couldn't find a better photo):

No one recognized the character (actually one did), and the mustache kept falling off.
. . yet I won a prize, yay me :D

It's from Star Driver. An anime about masked people and the Galactic Bishounen.

I guess all these women with large breasts just happen to "really like" Power Girl?

I do really like Power Girl. She's my favorite super hero. I think she's funny and I love Amanda Conner's art. I have every issue up until she stopped drawing it and Jim Palmiotti stopped writing. I spent a long time sewing every part of the costume myself and making the bodysuit out of pleather. I realize that the attention whore stigma come with the territory of such a character, but you can't just generalize everyone who wears it like that.

And if all the Power Girl costumes tend to look similar, it's because we're all following the same design, duh.

Accusing cosplayers of just doing it for the attention is just stupid. One one hand, it's not a particularly insightful comment. Of course the attention is part of it. But that doesn't really account for the fact that some of these outfits take a lot of effort. If all they wanted was nerds going 'boobs', they'd just go as Slutty xxx. It's probably easier to get a sports-bra, hot-pants, faux-suspenders and a hat so you can go as Slutty Mario-ess than it is to do the whole Litchi outfit.

Not really. Idea behind this is that you are competing in a market with far less competition. Its the same idea as being a hot gamer girl. You're appealing to a niche rather than just another hot girl dropping her pants. Its an easier market to attach yourself onto. Show some actual effort in your cosplays, while being attractive.

Be surprised how much some of their commissions can make and its not that they are even the best at crafting costumes. Rather they have an advertisement that can't be beat among the fanbase.
