Maka Wuhu is ruining Mario Kart 7.

Ruined is pretty hyperbolic imo. I play a lot of online in Worldwide and there is usually one person who spams Maka Wuhu, but typically two people at the most will do it. I've even played Worldwide matches where we played the stage and no one used the glitch!

It is ridiculous that they won't fix it though. I'm not totally clear, is there something about the 3DS that makes it so that Nintendo can't patch it, or do they just not want to?

Off topic, are there really a lot of people playing in the GAF community now? Because the last time I tried to play in it was a few days after Christmas, and every time I would join it, be the only person in a new lobby, wait ten minutes and then switch to Worldwide after no one showed up.

The game itself has no patching functionality. They could do probably do some kind of work around regarding a 3DS firmware update or launching the game from an app on your 3DS home screen, but that's where the Nintendo laziness kicks in.

Patches were possible with Wii games (look at CoD). This is just a case of Nintendo not giving a fuck.

Well said.

Snaking in MK is using Akuma in Super Street Fighter Turbo. It eliminates every other playstyle from the game because it is simply better than everything else. It makes for a boring, uninspired experience, even if it was intended to be in there by the designers.

Shouldn't you be comparing characters to characters instead of characters to integral features that are available to all characters, karts, modes and stages?

And people keep mentioning it eliminates other playstyles... what does that mean? What other "playstyle" other than snaking and not snaking is there? Driving backwards?

...what? There are other playstyles to racing around the same fucking track for three laps? We're discussing a racing game, not a fighting game which is inherently different. Every character can use this tactic.

I really don't get what's so unbalanced about snaking. I'd understand if it was a really cheap trick that could be spammed like nothing, but as we've established before, it requires some level of skill to achieve consistently - especially factoring in items and the turns of a particular track. If you lose to someone who snakes, you lost fair and square and it's entirely your fault for not matching the skill of the other player.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

This is the biggest load of BS I've ever seen on this board.

Snaking was a glitch--period. It wasn't intended to be as overpowered as it was in the game.

Intended or not, the rules as written explicitly allow snaking. If you aren't taking advantage of snaking and losing as a result, you are worse at the game as defined by the rules inherent in the hardware and software. You are saying that everyone should play by your own made-up ruleset.

You don't know what a glitch is.

Actually it doesn't even matter, even if it was a glitch that still doesn't refute what you bolded. :p

It wasn't and isn't a glitch. How is it overpowered when every player has access to it? Is "woe me, I lost because I'm awful at executing a legal technique and the other player is good at it" what you're trying to say? I mean, that's what this entire argument really boils down to anyway. The biggest load of BS is the hypothetical guy complaining because he's not good at the game.

I just played a race where all eight players did the Maka Wuhu glitch. A few hours ago, I called Nintendo customer support to see if there was any statement about the glitch, and they said they never heard of it.

All eight racers.

Yeah. It's incredibly easy to do, and if you assume most others are going to do it as well, you'll generally be right. It sucks, but it's either that or get last and hold up the race. If its any consolation, the times I've done it when others haven't, I purposefully stall my kart for a while to be with the majority of racers. It's dumb either way, though.

You are ruining Mario Kart 7

Surprisingly when I was playing with randoms today two people picked maka wuhu and no one glitched, it's a fun map too , smh bummer at those glitchers

Ah what the hell. I was hoping that was a joke, but you're definitely right. It's not as bad as the other one, but it saves about five-eight seconds. Balls.

wtf how is that even possible?

i played 3 hours of MK7 today in random online and MW only showed up 4 times in the whole session.
the game's screwing with you if you get paired with noobs that much. i get to race with people with around 10k VR often (and beat them usually :p)

I used to sneak the shit out of MKDS and I think my thumbs still hurt but I don't see how could you play without it, it seemed natural to me. Come at me bros.

That said, I much prefer the drifting system of MKWii and MK7.

And yeah, everyone picking Maka Wuhu in worldwide fucking sucks :/

No matter how many people pick Maka Wuhu it can't be nearly as many as people who pick Final Destination in Brawl online. Sometimes it's nothing but FD for an hour or two on end. And if it's anything else it's Temple.

Nothing is worse than Brawl's online. That's for sure.

lol, so you're part of the problem, how hypocrite

If other people have already ruined the chances of a fair normal race by exploiting the glitch before him that round, how would it be "part of the solution" to just stay at the back and lose? "Grr, this is my silent protest, it's not like I wanted to compete against people or anything!"

Wait, people still try to play Brawl online?

his analogy fits actually. everyone can snake, everyone can pick Akuma. Akuma dominates over the rest of cast, snaking allows low grip karts to dominate high grip or heavy karts.

I bet you're one of those people who wavedashes in Melee against friends and they all hate versing you.

They just taunt. They don't fight. It's horrifying. What are these people doing with their lives?

Many of them don't even taunt anymore. They just wander the stage aimlessly like the lonely ghost of a soldier doomed to forever haunt the battlefield where he was killed.

Thankfully most of the worldwide games I've played with friends have had few people who pick and exploit the track. When it does happen, it's usually only one or two people so it's not so bad. I just pretend they aren't there and shoot for whatever the best position left is.

Without a doubt it is a problem though. I'd be nice to see a fix down the line.

Around the second lap marker, people can turn into a ditch that, when taken back up by a lakitu, puts them about a lap ahead of everyone else.

So when it gets to the point that EVERYBODY does it, it's not a problem anymore.

Actually, I don't exploit the physics of games very often in matches against personal friends who aren't quite as competent at it; that would kind of take the challenge away. It's just that in an online match, it's pretty much standard stuff. And if you (as in the general 'you') aren't good enough to pull off something legal and allowed within the gameplay mechanics, sucks to be you.

don't hate the playa, hate the game.

It's always a cool "Hope in humanity restored" moment when no uses the glitch, especially if you're playing the track because someone chose it (as opposed to it popping up on a random).

The most annoying part of the whole thing is trying to stay around third or fourth until you pass the pond to see if the other people are going to cheat.

Yep, sure. Wavedashing was discovered very late in the development process and was left in because the developers thought it was a cool technique (or because they couldn't be bothered to fix it, I dunno really). I don't see a problem with using it against my equally skilled friends. It does exploit the game physics, but I choose to take advantage of whatever can give me an edge. Sucks for other people if they won't because of some stupid principle.

Are we talking about the glitch that lets you skip large part of the track? If so:

"There are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut as doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game. Rest assured your comments have been added to our records for Mario Kart 7."

ROFL! Nintendo outdoing themselves.

The glitch:
By deliberately driving off of the track at a specific point near the course's start, gamers are sneakily returned to the track much farther on - near its final section.

Link has the glitch in action.

Wasn't the patch update after MK7 release? I don't think games before it support patching. Anyway yes it sucks, but just wait a bit until this glitch dies off and people stop choosing Maka Wuhu
