I liked mercs far more than the campaign though, way better than RE4 mercs IMO.

RE5 mercs is great mostly because you can play ALONE there. After forced story coop garbage. Seriously, whoever came up with permanent AI partner idea must be shot. Playing with people is obviously fun. I played about 1500 hours in mercs for high scores, both solo and duo. But story campaign is so terrible it should never exist in the first place.

Gaffers say it is.

I don't think it is.

Having played through RE4 more than a dozen times, I can say with certainty that the voice we hear is definitely the voice actress that did Ashley. Unmistakeable.

Whether she is voicing a different character remains to be seen.

Now see, this is really cool, enemies that punish players for being too stationary and defensive.

I wonder if they actually do that on a regular basis or are designed to do that, or if someone just waited long enough without shooting at it to make a cool shot for the trailer. If you look, there's a definite jump between sliding into cover and it grabbing you, so the conclusion people have been jumping to (that there are enemies that deliberately punish cover usage) might be a little off.

which has about as much RE-ness as this.

A shameful post.

I'm excited and disappointed at the same time. Leon's portion looks GREAT and they FINALLY brought back real zombies. Chris's section looked like the action shit they've been throwing on us since RE4. At this point I don't think Capcom will ever make a traditional Resident Evil game again, which breaks my heart =(

As long as the Tall Oaks (or whatever it was called) section at least has some decent horror elements, it'll be better than the whole of Resident Evil 4 & 5 combined to me.

Resident Evil 5 was one of my top 5 games this gen and the only game released in the last five years that I've replayed multiple times. Am I seriously this disconnected from the world that I could enjoy the game so much while almost everyone else says it is complete shit? How much of that reaction is just hyperbole because it wasn't RE4 all over again?

I mean I really liked the game. I liked it more than RE4, which I found to be too long and tedious. I'd still prefer a new game be made in the style of REmake, but damn. I seriously don't understand the hatred.
Im in the same boat with the entire 1st paragraph.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Come on son, let's not get silly now.

Nope. Sounds about right to me. I remember all the people saying RE4 was barely a RE game like it was yesterday.

which has about as much RE-ness as this.
I think RE4 has about double as much RE-ness as this, but I do agree with your general point.

Keep in mind, the atmosphere in RE4 was certainly on par in many regards with the older resident evils, it just wasn't an atmosphere that scared as much as it tuned the senses.

This atmosphere feels very...public....almost like left 4 dead or gears of war or half life 2 rather than resident evil.

Some of it definitely looked good though!

I thought RE4 had really good atmosphere and certainly some traditional elements, I just don't think it's very just to scream at this game for being too different when this game is the way it is due in part to what RE4 did to the series-- for better or for worse.

If you judge a game by how well it achieves what it sets out to do, then RE5 is an average to above average title. If you contextualize RE5, it becomes a totally different story.

Can some people really not see the difference between RE4 style action and this power sliding cover taking action against enemies with machine guns? They are nothing alike.

Not that I'm dogging RE6, I think the game looks fantastic(not a fan of the Gears of war or Vanquish similarities controls though), but seriously, people should not be deluded into thinking RE4 action was comparable to this.

How can you judge the atmosphere of the game from just 1 trailer? I would reserve judgment on that until the game is out.

By the tone the trailer tries to establish?

It is.

Look at the trailer again.
If I look then no, all I see is a blonde character who could be anyone. But we shall see. But I also don't care as that entire part of the trailer looked pretty dumb anyway.

Im also excited as fuck they are proclaiming this the most ambitious and feature rich title in the series. Capcom delivers production value out the ass on these games and i loves them for it.

I dont want ambitious or feature-rich for fuck's sake.

God damn, they just dont get it, do they?

I don't think it sounds like her at all, but whatever. And since you can't prove it 100% it's a moot point right now.

After hearing her as that one girl from Jimy Newtron and Sandy Cheeks from Spongebob for god knows how many years, you start to realize that her VA doesn't have a lot of range.

I personally don't think it's Ashley mainly because of her eye color, but then again, the shots of her face we got weren't exactly 100% clear. I took a screencap and, correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought Ashley had hazel eyes and the image I have looks closer to blue (if only the focus wasn't on the new guy):

Rebecca has similar eye shade, but who knows. Could be someone completely different... or I could be completely wrong =)

Regardless, the trailer pumped me up so much.

They should spell resident evil all lowercase like with resi4. That was cool... somehow

Wonder if they'll have Mercenaries still. Arkham City already stole the title of 'best high score unlockable thing in an action game' anyway, so yeah, not fussed if they don't

Do you think they'd use the same actress and have her do the same voice for two different characters in the same universe?

I see that difference, but I also seem to remember Resident Evil 4 bringing the following things to the franchise:

-ganados with stun batons
-infected monks with crossbows
-infected monks that man catapults
-J.J., the militia ganado with a gatlin gun

And aren't there even some with rocket launchers?

So yeahhh I don't really think it's fair to start hounding on RE6 for changing things in an action-oriented direction while at the same time giving RE4 a pass.

Will buy if coop is separated from the campaign ALA Uncharted.

In the press release they say "Solo and coop experience" or something like that.
I don't think they're going to force the coop on us this time.

And yes this really doesn't look like ashley at all.
Especially when she's in shanghai with alex .
And the boots/pants are the same as rebecca's signature design . I think this really is rebecca.

Also they purposefully hid the emblem on his coat (right arm) which shows which mercenary organization he works for. For all we know, this could be hunk

seriously some people are embarrassing themselves in this thread with their tears and anger.

Seems to me Capcom are giving people what they want in the form of survival horror in Leon and the all action Chris.

This new guy seems to be different to both of them as well. All seems to be very interesting to me, hopefully all 3 campaigns are unique.
