The Last Of Us Game Informer Details [Audio Design Interview]

subversus

I've done nothing with my life except eat and fap
there is nothing more unattractive that a woman using bad language. I hope you can censor it somehow.

You're joking right?

Yeah, it'd be terrible if people didn't find this fourteen year old girl attractive.

Girls using bad language is so hot. :)

Because women exist to be attractive?

The one thing I still wonder or am unsure of, is how linear this game will be. I don't need a GTA type environment, but I hope it's a bit more open and "branchy" than Uncharted.
There has been comments about that I'm pretty sure, indicating basically what you wanted.

It's good to hear they are working hard on Ellie's AI, because having a dumb partner is a drag.

I'm probably looking more forward to exploring areas. lol.

I'm shocked that there is such a GAF uproar over a 14YO girl swearing but none for the violence she appears will dish out.......

Anyway, I think it will be handled fine by ND. So long as it is done within the context of life and death situations etc and not constantly in casual chat situations, I don't see a problem at all.

Uproar? I don't think the complaints about the foul language were directed at the fact that Ellie is a teenager, just that it can be obtrusive in general, at least if it's implemented badly.

Typical for GAf. Making a big deal over nothing. "Uproar" is exaggerated. I think some of us just expressed our opinion on possibility hearing young girl cursing too much. Move on.

Hmmm, this all sounds good. Real good.

Maybe a strange point to note at this stage, but I hope the scavenger mobs have good variety in them...i.e. it'd be great if I'm not beating up the same faces over and over. One of the screenshots shows a scavenger dude cowering as Joel is about to smash down on him...but those kind of moments might lose their effectiveness if this is a dude you've already seen to a dozen times before. OTOH I'm not sure it's realistic to expect every scavenger to be unique.

Yes, and your opinion was backed up with "there is nothing more unattractive than a woman using bad language", as if that has any bearing on whether or not swearing in the game is appropriate.

"-Second described scenario: They describe a combat scene which makes the game seem pretty melee heavy where you're primarily fighting with things like bricks, fists, and wood planks. Bullets are very scarce, but kill enemies in one shot. The weapons you have and the events of combat also effect the behavior of the AI, which is explained in a later bullet point."

^ This sound great to me.

Got a little surprised to see what was the relationship with them and where they were from, etc. I would like a stronger bond between them, hope they can still achieve that in the game.

Thanks for all the updated info OP, I'll be there day one, I hope. Seems all very interesting so far.

Sounds awesome, and I think any 14 year old put in that situation would definitely be very potty mouthed.

Hell anyone would be.

Really? Because it seems like in America (as a Brit) language and sex are the two big no nos, when violence is a-ok.

Oh I know. I'm interested in the reasons why this is.

That is fine. I'm just curious why the same opinion hasn't been expressed on the possibility of a young girl dishing out too much violence.

He becomes infected. Ellie kills him. In the closing moments you take control of Ellie and pull the trigger.

Amirite?

Yup. I'd say:

There's a scene mid-game where the dude offers Ellie a gun, just in case. She of course refuses it at first, as if anything like that could happen to him but he explains that she'll have to shoot him before he does something... terrible. Then he puts the gun in the girl's hand and closes his fist over her's. "Just take it."

Do you work at Naughty Dog? That's basically what they said in the article. :p

LOL i wish, but I did visit the studio as a representative for GAF and the fans of Uncharted whom weren't happy with the broken aiming in single player. Yes, i'm giving myself too much credit haha ;p

Girl sounds kinda like the girl from the professional or a more naive/not as badass version of hit girl.

Also, GOTY contender.

Man, the melee sounds like it would be great for MP. I just want to throw 2x4s in people's faces all day long. In fact, if they leave guns out of the MP entirely, it could make for a really interesting game depending on how well done the combat is.

Love the sound of it.

I hope there are more than one faction in the MP with the common enemy being the infected. Would be pretty cool to be fighting in a faction vs faction vs faction battle for territory, only for the infected to show up at some point and the entire dynamic change.

"
Ellie asks if he's killed a lot of innocent people, and Joel tries to dodge the question. Ellie says she'll take that as a yes, and he says to take that however she wants.
"

Might as well put in a *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* !

Joel
killed Ellies parents, had a revelation and took her under his wing.

It's gonna be the twist everyone saw coming.

I hope you have to kill the girl in the end as a mushroom sprouts out her head. That would be a ballsy ending.
I hope you play as the guy for a few hours, and you're the big bad ass, then he notices he's changing, passes the gun to the girl, then the camera switches, you have to kill the dude, then play as the girl for the rest of the game. That'd be cool.

I have no problems with swearing in life threatening situations.

If one of those infected guys tried to kill me, I'd be swearing all over the place.

You're right. Although it's a little different, he suggests it'd be the end, I'd rather it be about a third in, so you can go from the big guy, and having company to help you, to being the girl, all alone. I think it'd be really creepy.

The PS blog did mention stealth btw
Before long they fired up an amazing live gameplay demo showcasing the combat, stealth, and presentation style and offering a glimpse at the evolving character relationship between protagonists Joel and Ellie. The team offered frank and open responses to all of our questions and only really held back on heavy spoilers and elements that weren’t 100 percent nailed down yet. They were also gracious enough to play through the whole fascinating demo again (and we didn’t even have to beg that much).

On day two, we conducted several on-camera interviews and rounded up loads of online content that will roll out throughout the entire month of February. So be sure to head over to gameinformer.com to see our full front and back panoramic cover image and keep coming back for more The Last of Us throughout the days ahead. In fact, you don’t have to wait long. At 4:00PM Central Time today, we’re exclusively debuting the first three in-game screenshots of The Last of Us. We’ll see you there!

-The look of the game was inspired by "Ruin Porn", which is a branch of photography where people take pictures of ruins that have been overgrown by nature.

I love photos like that!

I never knew there was a name for it.

Given other parts of the article, I feel it'd be quite unlikely.

They said they've been investing heavily in her AI for the entirety of development and they positioned the whole relationship and combo mechanics as extremely important to both the story and gameplay.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting I thought it would happen, just that it'd be cool if it did. I think I'm just hoping for something very surprising such as the MGS2/Halo 2 'twists'. Although if it is predictable, that doesn't really count anyway.

Yeah, sounds like that is a focal point of the game and I just can't imagine a developer killing off a central character so early. It'd be a big wtf mind-blowing moment, but also turn a lot of people off, especially if they then had to play as a 14 year old girl.

I would have no problem playing as a 14 year old girl but maybe a the devs have reason to believe that a lot of people would.

I seriously can't understand how anyone can give two damns about swearing or nudity in gaming among all the blood and gore that surrounds it. I'll never understand American morality.

Well, especially given their target audience: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/...sure_Of_Franchise_Engagement_Among_Gamers.php

Making a game where you play a Father Figure is probably the most natural thing they could do.
